Saw this song featured in the Sam Bush documentary a couple nights ago. Had never heard of John Cowan before and spent the whole day today checking out his fine catalog of music while I work. Separately from the music, if there were an award of some sort for most remarkable physical transformation in the bluegrass singer/bass player category, he’d win in a landslide... this guy went on to become a genuine, big hair 1980’s rock star, like the kind the girls in the audience melt for when he walks on stage.
We saw John Cowan about a month and a half ago. He’s still got his chops…
Holy SHIT this live version blows the studio version absolutely out of the water. These vocals are amazing
Real Real NewGrrass! Seen the originals @ Stomping 76 ❤️💯

Thanks for sharing! love this song and the album it was recorded on, unfortunately I haven't been able to find it anywhere for sale.
Patrick Wilson me either... used to have it, now I CANT FIND IT ANYWHERE!!
Thanks for putting this out there. Never gets old.
Wow, Bela’s really changed.
That's not Bela on banjo, it's the original Newgrass Revival banjoist, the great Courtney Johnson!
😂
Man I bet when John lost the weight and dyed his hair the first time it was like the flood gates opened 😂
is that jack black?lol
You know who else was real fat for just a couple years?
Who?
Steve Earle. Also, interestingly (or perhaps not), in my opinion the height of his career: when he was playing with The Del McCoury Band.
