    To save yourself time with the 10 minute change rule you can change the oil filter first. Then drain the oil then fill. The oil pumps can drain and wont self prime. If that happens the oil light wont go out and you need to stop the engine quickly. Its hard to manual prime so dont let it drain for too long.

    The air filter has a half moon tab than must be in correct rotational position otherwise the filter does not seat correctly. A lower viscosity oil is better for these turbo engines. Great video.

    Replace oil filter first and then drain out sump plug and refill and start as quick as possible but in case you already made a mistake and took so much time after draining oil then you can try filling out oil into oil filter pocket then tighten the filter and start and check if the oil pressure light goes off. Goodluck

      Hi Neil Thanks for your visit, the filler plug for the gearbox is the one situated in the middle of the gearbox it is usually a 22mm or 24mm head. generally, if there are no leaks on your gearbox, it is not necessary to fill it.

    Thanks. My experience suggest to stick to WSS-M2C913-D 5w30 oil specs and apply a 10 mins rule for the oil service, otherwise the oil pressure drops and will have a catastrophic/disaster to your engine

  • @fokanerantsieng4642
    @fokanerantsieng4642 3 роки тому +3

    Thanks Mnr for the informative video. I’m still confused about 10 min rule. Does it mean that the oil will be fully drained within 7min or will the be some oil leftover?
    Other advise out there are discouraging the use of engine flush especially when using fully synthetic oil. What is your take?
    Thanks 🙏🏾

    • @vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790
      @vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Fokane, the ten-minute rule means do not leave the engine oil draining for more than 10 minutes, it is found that air ingresses to the oil feed system and is difficult to bleed out, causing engine damages as the system does not build oil pressure quick enough when too much air is present in the oil system (a badly designed oil pump apparently). I usually replace the sump plug, oil filter and oil as soon as the oil becomes a trickle, between 4 and 7 minutes, I find this safest.
      As for flushing an engine, I have been doing it for decades and not encountered any ill effects on even 1 vehicle for which I performed an engine flush.

    I serviced this type of ford ranger exactly as same as this guy on this video did, and it is also a brand new car with Odometer just 15,000km, after that the low oil pressure warning came up and it was really hard to fix it and somehow we fixed it and nothing problem, and my service manager took it for test drive and the car couldn’t go up to 40km/h , after that we check everything and found the turbo has gone. So my question is, is it common in this type of this ford ranger which was build approximately 2021/2022?. If there is any advice or comment please reply

    • @vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790
      @vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Teo, do not let the oil drain for more than 10 minutes as the oil system tends to get air in it and sometimes does not bleed out fast enough causing oil starvation to the main engine parts which could cause serious damage to the internal components of the engine. It seems to be a manufacturers fault with these models of Ford Ranger. I let the oil drain for only 7 minutes to be safe. Gary

  • @alljoy6541
    @alljoy6541 4 роки тому

    Hi Garry, thanks for the video , useful as I was wondering about how to service this vehicle. This model is apparently a good model. Ford Ranger new model 2019/20 has a new engine apparently and a new auto gearbox, which I hear has lots of problems and recalls. How is this vehicle to drive in manual, would you recommend buying it in auto if I want to use it only for leisure , and not to carry heavy loads, the reason I ask is I am thinking of getting one but the size makes me want an auto.

    • @vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790
      @vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790  4 роки тому +2

      I am a great believer in manual transmissions it just leaves one with all the choices and no restrictions when it comes to deciding on which gear is appropriate for certain conditions, costs are also kept low, as auto transmissions especially the modern ones are sometimes problematic and expensive to repair.
      So when it comes to recommending an auto transmission, I will say this, if you own a plush luxury vehicle, auto is the way to go, all other vehicles, go manual.

    My 2.2 is also just out of warranty and I want to do oil changes myself. This 10 min story is just stressing me out. If one starts with the oilfilter first and replace it taking ones time then surely it will be fine. The oil is not draining away from the oil pump as the sump is still full?? Am I correct? The last thing I want to do is rush the first oilchange. Does the oil pump sits lower than the filter? Then surely oil cant drain from it whilst working on replacing the filter. Thanks a lot. Quick question. Is there a reason that you use 15w40 instead of the usual 5w30 for these motors?
    And does the ACEA A5/B5 additives that the manual ask for really make a difference? They say to add 5w30 ACEA A5/B5, which is quite a mission to find.

    • @vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790
      @vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790  2 роки тому +2

      In our county's climate, South Africa, being sub tropical, it is recommended to use 15w 40, besides 5w30 is an overkill, unless you do not do regular oil changes, which is not recommended with these Fords.

    Hi Gary, my Ford Ranger is out of service plan. The recommended service interval is at least once every 20 000kms. Would you recommend doing the lube service (oil change and oil filter change) only? And maybe change the air filter and diesel filter less frequently. Or it's recommended I change all of these at every service interval?

    • @vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790
      @vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Justin, if I owned a diesel vehicle, the most I would stretch oil changes is 12000 kilometers, where I would change the oil and oil filter, longer is certain to shorten the life expectancy of the engine, but that is just me.

    Hi there , here in France we have hundreds of duratorq engine breakage due to the rupture of the variable oil pump shaft, defusing during oil changes with a filter is a well-known thing but many breakages are caused by the clogging of the oil as the pump is mounted without filter screen. I recommend any Ford Ranger owner to replace the original pump with another reference than the OEM 1 839 456
