His artwork should be saved and displayed in a gallery. And there are so many things in the house that should also be saved and sold to people to continue to love them.

I loved your comment of knowing why his art didn't sell. I was thinking the exact same thing. Art, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholders. They were quite colorful, and it's obvious he enjoyed painting them. They had an almost primitive quality to them. What a beautiful house that must have been.

    • @lindahollander3588

It didn't seem like his taste in art and colors went well with French design of the house

Less than primitive, they seem childlike and poor imitations of those who inspired him.

Love your voice and the manner in which you describe the explore.. thanks for taking us on this explore. In America/Canada we demolish our homes after a few years, we will never have history as this. So sad. Beautiful castle...

There are old homes in North America to restore too. People who enjoy restoration and companies that sell wonderful bits to aid in that. They aren’t as old as these wonderful chateaus though.

It is possible that he never tried to actually sell his art. For many artists their work is too personal to let it go to strangers. The wooden item you weren’t sure about was a wood lathe for turning bowls and chair legs etc. By the end of his life he may have used up what inheritance his Parents left him, and his Daughter could not afford the death taxes. He appears to have been quite an eccentric man w lived in the present without much thought for the future. His bedroom was amazing. The hat block was for shaping felt hats, both new, and refurbishing old ones. He is a man one would enjoy a long conversation with. There are some real gems of antiques left behind in there. Thanks for sharing it with us. I’m glad you can now make your life doing what you love, and congratulations on gaining such a good sponsor...you have come a long way from where you began, and I feel privileged to have been able to take this journey with you. The phone with no numbers was used by lifting the receiver and asking an operator to connect you to the person you wanted to speak with...and she would make the connection through a switchboard.🖤🇨🇦

Probably the telephone did not have numbers because, either it was just for phoning down for a servant within the house, probably in the kitchen, or it dated back to a time when you had to call an operator who then would get the number you wanted.

A trick when a person has high ceilings is to paint the ceiling a dark color to give the allusion of being lower. Usually they come down the sides of the wall about a foot or so also, depending on the height of the wall.It makes the room seem warmer. I would love to see photos of the home inside and out when his parents lived there. The woodworking on the stair case is stunning. It would have been had made by an artisan on site when the home was beng built I suspect. Getting the curves is very labor intensive. The chapel must have been on the other side of a large landscaped garden since it is so far from the main house.

Hi Lesley, hope all well. I’ve been gutted to miss some of your latest videos but my work is keeping me quite busy lately. Still it’s a pleasure for me to catch up now. I’m particularly fascinated by this mansion, as well as being gorgeous with exquisite French grounds and chapel, the Indian influence is really strong.
As somebody with an Indian background I can really appreciate some of these works of art and say they are pretty exotic and expensive even by some modern Indian standards. It’s a pity the owner did not find a market for them in France but I know in the 1920s/1930s Indian art was actually quite popular in Europe, including France. Even today I know some people in France would enjoy such artwork but they are in the cosmopolitan cities.
Still he kept his passion alive and kept persevering but what a delightful find and thank you for all your research and hard work.

Brave you walking in that attic. Really enjoyed this artists home in spite of the destruction. It's hard to imagine humans doing all that but we see it all the time. I think his art would sell just fine in New York or California. I'm glad those weren't destroyed and the upstairs India room was amazing. Thanks so much!

I think Dave from Abandon World Explorer and Dan from Exploring with Fighters did a segment on that place, but I like your Calm nature and remembering the owner of the house. His abstract stuff would sell today, he was ahead of his time. The one machine you looked at in the beginning of the video is a Wood Lathe.

Hi my dear friend Lesley from fabulous team Bros of Decay, I already loved that fairy tale like neo-gothic chapel in the beginning of your video.
The castle from the outside is truly magnificient and very beautiful. - Once more I simply admire your narrational skills, when you
formulated the introduction, which was so lovely to listen to. - Of course it is a shame, that there are some traces of vandalism,
but nevertheless there are still parts of the interior, which hold a clear time capsule vibe. - That mechanical device for carving
wood pieces is a manual turning-lathe. - The "bottle" in the kitchen seems to be more a syphon, with which you could make carbonized
water with the help of a gas cartridge. - The paintings on the walls are - after my opinion - very colourful and although abstract art,
somehow also quite beautiful. I would even say the former owner of this castle might have been inspired by the famous Spanish
artist Salvador Dali, because I can see some resemblance in a few details in these paintings. - Of course I also loved seeing the
really "quirky" things, as you said very accurately.
In the daughters bedroom you saw a bed, which is probably described as a "four poster bed" with four posts to support the canopy
    or curtains.
The attic of that artist was really also very interesting to see, especially that dragon! - Of course I as well liked the Indian artefacts
you were showing in a separate room.
This was once more an incredibly interesting and amazing video, which I enjoyed watching. - You also did a great job with your camera.
Wonderful video, dear bro! - Wishing you all the best, peace and much love from Switzerland.
Lots of blessings and kindest regards to you and to your dear brother Jordy.
