Wonderful, a man who really knows what he is talking about. Expansion vessels on small hot water cylinders not needed. Glycol definitely not needed, why fit ASHP then add a toxic liquid! I (CEng etc) agree very much with the technical statements made in this.
Been in the industry for over 40 years and it is only when compressor inverters and electric TRVs came in that heat pumps became viable the early heat pumps were not very controllable and the sizing of the units were also very suspect.
Great episode @jacob and @graham. I particularly liked the Benidorm video. (I'm sad i watched it Friday PM after work, continued to watch it in the car on the way to the pub and then shared it with some of our Yorkshire ASHP Partners in the pub!!) Ha!
An interesting conversation with Graham Hendra who has so much experience. Perhaps it would be even better if you let Graham answer your great questions before interupting so often: what I'm suggesting is that Graham answers first then you come back with your take on it. Even so I found it worthwhile. Thanks.
Just as I thought, householders are being over charged for solar panel installation and ASHP installations. Race to the bottom = charging a fair rate for a skilled tradesman (nobody objects to that) rather than ripping off householders
We are charging what we can get away with! That’s where Octopus Energy come in because they aren’t charging what they can get away with. They’ve developed their own home grown British made in Northern Ireland heat-pump. However up until recently they’ve been installing Diakin heat-pumps I’ve one in my house and it’s working very well 👌 mores to the point it cost me just £1000 in total for the installation.
I am having a 6kw mitsubishi ecodan installed with a 180l tank for £5,200 after the grant in a 1950's 3 bed semi. That includes a full repipe and 8 new radiators. I do not have a gas boiler that would cost significantly more to install and would still need the radiators and repipe. My mortgage company will also give me a further £2000 on top. Total cost £3,200.
Great podcast
Brilliant conversation!
Very much enjoyed that guys 😁👍🏻
I like the honesty, learnt a lot, thanks

My 15kW Chinese heat pump cost £1,300. Just saying.
you keep cutting him off and interrupting his answers before he’s finished, Interesting topic though
