Make sure pipe work through the wall is insulated and not touching brick work, and other pipes are kept off walls, joists anything like that with rubber clips.
I have one touching the ceiling and seems like it's missing a clip this causes a high pitch hum. As well as a primary pipes on cement in my wall transferring noise.
Exterior noise isn't really a issue had no complaints and people say "bloody hell these are meant to be loud aren't they'

Another terrific episode. That Daikin 9kW has a very bad reputation for defrost cycles and energy consumption according to Reddit communities. Shame they are quite common!

My 9kW Daikin is very noisy. The compressor vibrates at varying frequencies and can be loud inside the house. Secondly, the flow in the primary pipes is loud. The unit is very aggressive at the start of cycles getting up to 13kW output. Its control algorithm starts cycles at max power max flow. Flow rate of 32l/min is common.

@@matbantube I have a Daikin Altherma 3 H HT and its defrost is very noisy. I have no idea how it got its Quiet Mark certification. Presumably Quiet Mark excludes the defrost cycle. I've compared against the Vaillant and am now at the point where I want the Daikin swapping out as I realize the noise is intrinsic to the Daikin. The Daikin marketing department needs to sit through some defrosts. Defrost configuration on the Daikin is also unnecessarily complex because they naturally want to use resistive heating. To make matters worse the Daikin is more expensive. To be fair to Daikin their manual is very clear the various compressor bolts and covers need tightening to a specifc torque. I believe some installers don't know flexi hoses and correct torque on bolts are necessary.
My advice to anyone buying a heat pump is to listen to one doing a defrost cycle.

Would like to see some of the invocations you see on pc fans on large format fans on heat pumps. The chap in the top right did mention some have started so that’s good.
The issue is noise depends on ambient noise. A heat pump going on in the day isn’t going to be as noticeable as one going at night in a quiet area.
I’d hate to have a noisy heat pump near my bedroom window in summer.
My boiler is 40 years old and does a bit of kettling so noise is a bit of an issue but it stops when I go to bed so I don’t get disturbed.

We have an Ecodan 6kW unit and it is next to my daughters bedroom wall and a window, she says she can hear it but it sends her to sleep.
It does make a noise when it's cold outside but not as intrusive as next doors gas boiler with a fan in the exhaust.

Ours is wall mounted, about a foot off the ground. We asked for that because we're surrounded by trees, and anything on the ground collects a pile of leaves at this time of year.

I have to disagree that installers should only offer ground mounting and ultimately discourage wall mounting.
    Wall mounting surely provides an additional benefits;
    1) Large proportions of the housing stock across the UK are terrace houses with limited space in front or rear meaning that it is the only, really, viable install location.
    2) It inherently prevents rodent ingress into the pump and potential damage.
I do agree that the wall brackets ideally need looking at to provide cast iron certainty of safety and quality anti-vibration mounts need to be available.
I mean, seriously, Vaillant wall brackets still use rubber which degrades much too quickly. We have a huge variety of material that can be used in its place including, but not limited to, Silicone and Polyurethane plus hybrid types devices. You only have to look at the motor/motorbike/bicycle industry for inspiration.

Is there an argument for Heat Pumps to be supplied without integrated Circulation Pumps?
That way the installer can actually specify a Circulation Pump that meets all the head/pressure/flow requirements of the system?

A material called Sorbothane is a great insulator of vibration and therefore sound.

Wall mounting is the only feasible option for my house given the R290 requirement to keep the pump at least a metre away from doors, drains, windows and air vents etc. It would also have to be 2 metres high, otherwise it would block a footpath.

Should I install a Vaillant heat pump with my neighbours window 3m away and my bedroom above? It's being installed this Monday. Or should I put it around the corner where there is no windows but it might make parking my car a little more tricky?

@@RenewableHeatingHub Yeah it passed but I dont know how. I decided to put it around the corner and be safe.

Manufacturers could design better, use fans to push air through rather than draw air through as pushing is more efficient. Try sucking out the candles on a birthday cake compared to blowing, same lungs! That means less energy needed to push the air so calming noise even further.
