I like Qoocam 3 detachable battery.
I'm using Qoocam 8k, but the battery expanded during storage, so I replaced it more than twice and expanded it again.
I'm just hearing the answer, "Use the pan while using it."
QooCam 3&Ultra is a removable battery, so I'm relieved.
I'll look forward to the Qoocam3 ultra video as well.

Great review - you've provided the detail we need for comparisons to Kandao products. I'm a fan of the Qoocam 8K (ulp, I have two since I put one on a drone regularly). I'd love to see how the 8K compares to the 3. And I am very interested in what is going on with the Qoocam 3 Ultra. I know I'll find the best review of it here.
Nice. I will try Qoocam 3 on drone next. Will do a quick comparison on 8K and Qoocam 3. Qoocam 3 is kinda different camera thatn 8K. Ultra is more like Qoocam 8K I believe with focus on high frame rate capture, gps, GSV and livestream.

Good to see GoPro Max still holding its own after all these years. The latest GoPro Labs F/W allows you to crank up the bit rate, and do a lot of other nice things. Best time I had with the new Enduro Max battery was 1 hour 29 minutes. The Qoocam 3 looks nice though, and definitely priced right IMHO. Maybe those photos need a touch of contrast. I'm waiting for the Qoocam Ultra to see what they have going on there.
GoPro MAX 2 is confirmed yesterday btw. So it is getting interesting again in the 360 camera market - not just Insta360 and no one else lol.

Just subscribed! Question, I use a GoPro MAX with a 9 foot extendable pole for snowboarding. Tired of it crashing and having to pull the battery in and out before every shot. Should I go X3, this Qoocam, or wait for the Qoocam Ultra?
Stability is an issue on all those camera. I have not tested Qoocam 3 in extreme cold weather as it is not cold now. X3 been doing pretty good last season. But my MAX won't crash neither.

Please tell me what to do when i you have allot of 360 videos captured but don’t know where and how to start, I went for 2 vacations and recorded allot but every time i set behind the computer I get too deep wasting time on a small 360 video then start to having headache and never finished anything, nobody talks about this but I don’t think it’s only me who is having this problem, thank you Hugh for all the efforts you put in and thank you for sharing with us 💐
That is a good topic and good problem to have. Meaning you get to relive your trip soon lol. I have the same problem and I think most of us like to shoot a lot having these problem. I will find a good strategy on injecting footage and fast edit. As I have Barcelona, Spain, Paris, serveral Franch city and South America trips all need to edit with ton of footage. Maybe I should just start a editing party like edithass
Hello, great video Thanks for the info. New subs. I have a doubt, I don't know if it's a defect in my camera or it's in general in the qoocam. In 4k format at 30fps it doesn't allow me to record, it stops and doesn't proceed. Do you know anything about it?
Sound like a firmware glitch - report that and hopefully they can fix it with firmware update
Another question @Hough: What software would you recommend to remove myself wearing a backpack with the pro2 stick out on a 360 3D video? The workflow should be as fast as possible, since I have many videos where I wear it on a tripod. Furthermore I need to remove a small part of the sky (h3vr has a dead cat on it that's visible)

One thing you forgot to mention was the high pitched noise that happens every 5 minutes in a recording using this camera. And that the app, which isn't approved by Google or Apple and you have to bypass warnings on your phone and computer to use, also doesn't have audio at all!
Wait what high pitched noise? I don't have that - is it b/c your camera running low in battery and the warning sound the camera is going to die?

Another GREAT VIDEO Hugh. I spent the last half hour standing in front of my 4K TV with my remote control in one hand and a magnifying glass in the other. CLOSE CALL. The OneRS1" has a clear advantage and it shows in most of the comparisons. Difficult making definitive judgements as it was clear that in several of the comparison shots, the sun was playing a significant role in the outcomes. I'm only half way through your video; but, I needed a break and have some early observations I thought worth sharing.
In your opening comparison shots at the beach, I noticed Qoocam 3 definitely had some things going on in the software algorithms. I don't know if you did any tweaking in post, so I'll assume not. Two things were clear: the QC 3 had some definite lift in the color correction and also had significantly more edge enhancement in the processing than the insta360 cameras - blacks areas were flat dark grey and the edges were blacker than black. This continued to show in all of the comparisons that followed - so far - 14 minutes into your video.
In a few of the early back yard tests, I was shocked because I thought the X2 was out-performing the X3 - and most of the other cameras for that matter. It didn't hold true in some of the later tests, so it could be sunlight, distance from the lens or something else. But the model's necklace and texture of her blouse were astonishingly good in those early X2 tests.
I own a GoPro Max and I love it. I noticed in your comparison testing that the Max had little if any edge enhancement and slightly less contrast. So although not a clear winner, I felt it held its own.
I recently had the opportunity to do a head to head comparison between my Max and the insta360 X3. I tested them for several days in various lighting conditions and concluded that the X3, albeit having a few nice features like HDR and better support software, wasn't worth keeping or making further investment in the X3 platform. Most of this had to do with performance indoors and low light, the X3 exhibiting far more noise and lack of sensitivity than my Max. Outdoors, I eventually realized how HDR worked in the X3 and noticed ghosting along edge details, even when walking slowly with a selfie stick. It also became apparent that what I initially perceived as a sharper image in the X3 was in fact sharpness algorithms at work. When I zoomed in on the X3 imagery, it was clear that the edges were heavily enhanced.
BTW, I recently sent my very early model GoPro Max back for replacement. IMHO the new Max performs far better than my old camera - even with the same firmware. How old is your Max? 😎
Lol, Best way to view my video lol. I am not sure it is the enhancement or just the sensor they use add sensor level sharpening (most smaller backlit CMOS does), which I think they need to come up with solution to turn those off. Yes. Sunlight play key role on image quality - well any light. But I only got Keeley once so I am going to use it anyway. Shot that is an internest observation - my MAX is when it first release - I buy camera before or right at their releaese. That is not cool GoPro. Can have different quality but same camera model! I turn my GoPro MAX sharpen down tho just FYI for the test - not all the way down as it will be soft but like Medium. When I shoot with MAX - I did turn it all the way down and use Resolve post sharpening which get better result. One RS 1" as well. X3 does not have this feature so you observation is correct - overly digital look. I did HDR shoot as well and don't thin X3 HDR is good or at least in latest firmware is kinda over baked.

As an Old Stereographer I would love to Look at shooting 360 in Stereo as part of the comparison... I know the limitations but when we stay in the proper range of use it can be Amazing... I love to see your tests and in everything we ever shot in the old days there was a LOT of testing which is always great way to Learn... Keep up the great work... Love your enthusiasm... What do you mean with that? Can a 2 lens 360 camera shoot stereoscopic content? Don't you need st least 6 lenses with eye distance between?

Minimum 2 seperate camera points of view separate from one another... The Biggest issue is when you are the Viewer and you have the ability to turn around and see what is behind you... Normal 360 is fine but in 3D you will have just switched eye positions Left eye and Right eye That is the Problem... same with Looking UP or down past the Center...

Hiya Hugh, thank you so much for all the in-depth testing! I would like to know if the Qoocam 3 chapters its longer recordings and if there are any gaps between the chapters (Insta360 cameras always have gaps between their chapters, but the GoPro Max does not). Also, can you attached an external mic (like a USB lav mic for motovlogging)? At £359 in the UK, this may be worth getting while I wait for the Max 2, but if it can't do gapless recording I'll save my money 😁
There is no gap in recording - the software will put all the broken recording together with no gap. Right now it does not support external mic like Insta360. But they might consider bluetooth mic for motovlogging. What I will suggest tho for motovlogging is to use external mic and the just sync them in post in Premiere as you will need very good external mic which itself might cause more then the camera. @hughhou thanks Hugh! I do already use an external mic and have a Hero 9 or 10 on my crash helmet with the Media Mod. I would have liked to try a 360 camera as a helmet cam with external mic support (you can do that with the Insta360 X3, but i have to rule that out because of the recording gaps 😉 )
Good video as always; what about the heat? when you were recording in the beach, the temperature was good? I was in a wedding with the insta360 one rs adn it was overheating and turned off while I was recording 30 minutes, I'm in Spain and the weather here was almost 40 degrees
The heat handling so far is better than One RS 1" - it did not stop recording in high heat under the Sun. There is a settings you can set it handle higher heat btw.
Also this camera can record for ever as long as your SD card can hold - it does not stop recording in 30 min like One RS 1". I forgot to mention that.

Thanks for the great review Hugh!! I am super impressed with the detail of the Qoocam 3!! 2 questions if you have the time... Do you think the qoocam 3 would be ok on a motorcycle? Right now i use the x3 and where i am really disappointed is while i am on dirt trails the x3 washes the image quality of the dirt so you can't see any detail, i am thinking the Q3 could capture it. Also, didn't you say in one of your other videos that Qoocam is going to also release a higher image quality camera later this year? I think it was like 8k if i remember right.
Yes the is Qoocam 3 ULTRA - it might delay but it is slate to release later of the year. The quality might still not as good for dirty road - fine detail is hard for 360 camera in general.
The detail of the Q3 looks so much better than almost all the other cameras. I am really impressed by it. I am concerned though of things like skin tone quality too like you pointed out. @@hughhou Great review though hough, you always do a fantastic job!

I never use their smart phone app btw - I hate the phone but I hear the phone app is pretty good. I have not tested green screen work yet - the noise might be an issue for that as this camera is "noisely-er" than others. Maybe hold off to see if they have a denoise mode come out in the next update before you decide.

why are you not using the hdr mode on x3, don't you like your blue sky to remain blue ? are there drawbacks to hdr over standard video on x3 ? thanks
Yes. I recently discover the HDR mode is not that great. It create unwanted banding artfacts that I can not remove it. I will only use HDR video indoor when I have no control of the lighting. As it is not true HDR - those camera has no 16-bit or even 10-bit - so it is not a HDR sensor.

I'm surprised with the values for the insta360 in photo timelapse. My tests reveal that it's more 6 seconds between each photo. I don't know if this Qoocam 3 can really do 1s photo timelapse.

Thank you! Your One RS 1" or just regular One RS? 1" is not too heavy if you consider Pro 2 or Titan or Obsidian Pro lol. And we still fly our One RS 1" on consumer drone all the time. Q3 is lighter tho will try to fly it soon to compare.
@hughhou I need these things to be a great low light quality but able to easily with the elastic straps or neck clamp. You can't do that with the RS 1". It flops about too much from the weight. It possible need an L-Bracket mount or something to turn sideways to out on chest straps or neck clamps.
@DrunkPhotography: I walk around with an Insta360 Pro 2 mounted on a backpack + tripod for static shots + sth. to drink & accessories → 8-9kg. Camera on its own around 1.500g + ½ nodal ninja travel pole as "selfie stick" 400-500g :D
@hughhou: Have your Insta360 Pro 2 Cameras also unusable internal sound? It's worse then my smartphone mic or even the 1-RS Mic due to high pitch beep noises (maybe produced by poor audio cable isolition, I don't know)?

I don't use audio from Pro 2 - In general use H3VR or external mic. Those audio is for syncing in post.

how would you compare the video quality of Qoocam 3 that is 5.7k with Qoocam 8K ? which one do you recommend to create the most immersive 360 2D?
I don't have the Q 8K anymore. I use Qoocam 8K Enterprise. They are mostly the same but Q3 is better dynamic range and better in low light. More noise than Q 8K enterprise. I plan to do a more indepth comparison soon.
I checked their website Q 8k and Q 8K enterprise are exactly same spec .. I really appreciate if you compare them,Logically Q 8K enterprise should be better quality at least in day light. I also want to know the different with Insta360 RS 1Inch

i noticed one concerning thing about the sharpness of this sensor (as you mentioned, very oversharpened look), I really hope they can "fix" this in the firmware. Even the DNG raw files look oversharpened compared to standard RAW files, so this is something that the sensor is intrinsically applying.
Yes! Very digital look. They aware the issue and it should release a firmware to fix this like Insta360 One RS 1" and GoPro. Finger cross this can be fix. Another way is to use dehalo in Topaz Video Enhance to knock those artifact out - have been working really well for me so far. Not ideal what it is a temp solution.

Can we use it to create tours and streets with Google Street View with video functionality?
Yes. There is no built in GPS - so GSV will need app supoort and it is not currently supported yet so might need to wait to ULTRA come along. This is not really for GSV

No Qoocam 3 can NOT do livestream. That is a Qoocam 3 Ultra feature which will come later this year.

No HDR Photo yet - But Kandao will add it soon. But DNG8 is Kandao prefer way of HDR - it is FASTER and better looking without HDR ghosting for Virtual Tour. HDR is an old school way of thing. I will suggest. give DNG8 a try - you can watch in later of this video for the full Adobe Lightroom workflow - very similar to HDR workflow in the Theta Z1.

@all I am not sure if I understood you right but is it possible to do 3D 360 (not 180) with a cam like this or any other 2 lens cams? I thought eye distance is always needed so at least 6 lenses for 360 or 2 lenses for 180...

is it my eyes or is x2 looking better than x3 on details and color at 13:45 ! - can it be because x2 records in 100mbps h265( in h264 200mbps quality equivalent ) vs only 120mbps h264 for x3 ?
X2 and X3 is very close so it’s really hard to tell. But X3 is still better. Maybe UA-cam compression
Sorry but ... My last Kandao Qoocam 8K got one lens out of focus. Never solved by kandao. And some stitching issues ... does this camera solve this?
Maybe I miss the stitching part ... but I am really worried about (blurry) out of focus one lens problem :-(

There won't be focus issue here but it still have focus distance - too close to the camera will be blurry as it is a very large aperture.

How does it compare to Z1 in low light?
Virtual Tour photo or any photo I won't do it in low light so I did not compare - as it is not enough light - we can't really use DNG8 or Dualfisheye plugins in Z1 - so it really defeat the purpose. Low light I only use DSLR.
Does your H3VR clatter when shaking it (medium, not high force)?

@@hughhou Oh okey :D I move it like all the time, its even mounted on a bouncy mount against the vibrations etc. otherwise traveling through the pole in my backpack 😅 before I mounted it on top of the pro 2 but that caused many crack sounds. Also needed to remove the battery cover since it also cracks a lot 😅

Lenses with larger aperture are typically called fast aka a “fast lens”. They let more light in to allow for a faster exposure.
Oh yes! The video (20:02) shows the real photo resolution 2784x5568 (15.5M), but the specification says 11136x5568 (62M)... this is 2x interpolation by horizontally and vertically. The camera is bullshit. Don't buy this!
The real photo resolution of DNG 8 is 5K - this is a different mode than regular photo which is 62MP. Sorry if I am not clear about the 2 different mode. Regular photo mode will reach 62MP - 11K with single DNG also in that resolution. BUT you are probably right the actual image quality is not much increase. DNG8 which capture 8 DNG at the same time - which result in lower resolution - but still full sensor read out. So that 5K photo come out more details than 11K result. You can see my comparison very clear. So it is NOT interpolation or at least there are 2 different modes.
