i give you big respect that you mentioned that it's not that black especially in direct sunlight or bright light, it's frustrating that some UA-camrs didn't mention that. p.s. it's frustrating for me to watch these UA-camrs not mentioning that fact because I've been using this paint on my projects and that's only flaw. I'll subscribe because of your honesty.
The lack of even hour markers would stop me buying, but I like the look and reference to the bird 👍. One scratch on the case or AR and it would be ruined! Good review 👍
I agree, I don’t know why every watch like this has no indices. I guess they really want to focus on the blackness of the dial, but if it’s that black then indices wood almost look like they are floating. I think it would look even cooler. And it would actually be readable.
Really like it and only suggestion I would have would be to add a single matching small blue ydot at 12 oclock as a reference point when the bezel is moved and lose the antireflective outer coat. I am personally wary of PVD coating wear and on this minimalist design it could easilly ruin it so if i bought it I would swap out the bracelet for rubber immediately.
Damn I remember your older reviews, you always gave me a good vibe so I’m glad your channel blew up. Production quality is crazy too but you always had the same calm and knowledgeable delivery
I love the fact that they used the Vogelkop bird as inspiration for the design. They nailed it. Those birds are the coolest. That said, I'm too practical to buy a watch without any kind of indicators on the dial. It should win a design award though. They should also advertise the hell out of this thing to biologists and anyone that has anything to do with birds.
Wow, beautiful watch. I fall into the catagory of tool watch fan, but this really appeals to me. Not happy with the likliness of scatching exterior AR though. All in all the piece is beautiful and ticks so many boxes for me; great aesthetic, usable bezel, milled clasp, decent look, exhibition caseback. I don't care that there aren't any indexes, I know where they go. Thanks for bringing attention to it. Just might have a new dress watch soon, lol.
It’s an automatic, so it uses a mechanical rotor to recharge a mainspring which powers the watch. No battery needed. You can tell by the way the seconds hand sweeps rather than ticks once per second
The branding on the seconds hand omly is great props to boulder for that. Also points for being truthful on just how black this watch is. Ill be looking at this one in the future.
Brian pauses the video at 00:32 ... Looks at the shirt you are wearing .. Thinks OMG that is awesome... Goes and puts his Casio AE1200-WHD on... Starts video again 🤣😆
Would be interesting to see other Musou dials on a more normal design watch with indices, steel case, etc. Applied features of the dial would be interesting to see if it pops or not.
Thanks for the vid. A great and cool looking watch. Here in Europe the brand Venezianico offers also watch with Musou black dial. But in a more classical atyle if design.
Setting up the time would be so hard on this one because it has no markers at all. If you can set the watch through an app or something it would be perfect. I do like the look!
Vantablack costs a lot sure but there is no reason a more affordable watch could not be made using it without the massive price tag. I'd love to see a Vantablack watch design to look like a blackhole with the movement driving an internal outside chapter ring with an event horizon finish that is also coloured lume that slowly spins to create the blackhole look. At night that lume will then glow and really create that blackhole look.
Great video as usual. Love this watch. I love watch brands that focus on their own designs like Marloe for example. I might buy this Boldr if the budget allows 😅
I have a Boldr Singularity. Similar concept. Have not found it hard to read and is a great conversation starter. Seems like a lot of people here saying "hard to read" or "hard to set" haven't actually rolled with a watch like this.
Great concept, but feel Boldr could play around with handset offerings, and I'm not entirely sure the case and bracelet benefit from being PVD. Perhaps they could come up with different variations around this most interesting dial.
Love the black dial paint and bracelet colour. Not what I'm looking for though. I'm looking for small quartz watch with timing bezel, sapphire crystal and INDICES for under $100.
Great review on this watch! When i first saw the image of it a bird came to mind. And now i know the name of the bird, very unique incorporation there! I do like the look of it but functionality isn't there. Cheers
I don't really get people who suddenly lose the ability to tell the time when there aren't indices. I have a Cartier tank without indices and I can tell the time just fine, and it's harder to do with the case shape? That said, I got the Singilarity because I thought it was the cooler watch, and of course I have no trouble telling the time on it either.
Although I DO appreciate what they're doing here, I'm just not a black-PVD coated watch wearing person. Maybe I'd swap it out for a black FKM rubber strap, but then that might ruin the aesthetic? Not for me, but still pretty cool.
In photographic terms, 99.4% absorption would be a bit over 7 f-stops. Compare to a typical dynamic range of black and white film (remember film?) of 10 f-stops, which is about the same as the vanta's 99.9%. I wonder how that compares to the classic Movado black-out dial? I'll have to check the GF's Movado for hand shadows.
Bro, please check if you can find merchandise or brands that have ultra black clothing like SUITS, polos, tees, shirts, pants etc etc in general but only apart from (exception being) Velvet yet similar to the intensity of blackness. Do a video on that for us curious bees. Thanks!
It's the wild colour scheme that freaks me out. Every time you try and operate these weird black controls that are labeled in black on a black background, a little black light lights up in black to let you know you've done it.
I've been wanting a vanta black dial but with silver and white lumed indexs. And vanta black chapter ring with white hash marks. I have a feeling that the vanta would give the impression that the indexes and hashmarks would appear to be floating. I dunno. 🤷🏻♂️
I like minimalist watches but they still need to be functional. Bezel needs to be stationary so there is a permanently consistent visual reference point.
Very cool. Unfortunately the bracelet width is too short at the case boundary which is non-harmonious with the symmetry and integrated precision one suspects they were trying to achieve. 7.5/10
I think it's disappointing that you can still see the shadow of the hands on the watch. That means there are still contracts between the pitch black of the shadow and the watch face itself, which significantly undermines the dramatic factor of the concept.
@@csb135 The Venezianico seems darker. It has a blue colored AR coating and polished dauphine hands. The blue of the AR shows up in the light, but the dial can't be seen. It is black enough that the lack of reflected light is almost hard to look at...hard to see. Your eye tries to focus but there is nothing there. I asked my wife if it looked the same to her. Her eyes saw it the same way. I didn't like the strap on the Venezianico. It was too shiny and plastic looking. I put it on a black lizard skin strap which suited the dial better.
Nice looking piece; though not the most useful (like Movado). The case design; namely the lug area is almost identical to the Seiko 62MAS. The design of the bracelet end links confirm that thought 🤔💭
My wife absorbs 99.4% of my bank account, costs a lot more than $450
Damn she takes all your money and you can still afford a Rolex! You must make some serious dollar signs
sounds normal
Mark...Same here.
She also absorbed this D last month at the motel while you were away.
Nobody asked and it's not even funny, honestly. Not sure why there's so many discount stand up comedians in UA-cam comments sections.
I like that you can have the watch ambidextrous like myself. Put the marker at the bottom and you got a lefty watch
I’m now wearing the Vogelkop Superb on my wrist, all thanks to you, man… A great-looking watch.
i give you big respect that you mentioned that it's not that black especially in direct sunlight or bright light, it's frustrating that some UA-camrs didn't mention that.
p.s. it's frustrating for me to watch these UA-camrs not mentioning that fact because I've been using this paint on my projects and that's only flaw.
I'll subscribe because of your honesty.
I love the deep black. I love the inspiration. It’s just too minimalist for me. I’d like to see this black paint used on some other dial styles.
I feel like with a dial like this, it will be SO easy to see dust and other imperfections on the dial - I think that would drive me crazy 😂
The reflections! Clearly subpar AR coating that was just bouncing all the light before the dial could anyways.
you can see a few specs in the closeups :/
Probably use it to burn 🔥 ppl if you go out in the sun 🌞
The lack of even hour markers would stop me buying, but I like the look and reference to the bird 👍. One scratch on the case or AR and it would be ruined! Good review 👍
Yep. Why the heck can’t someone use this dial but also put markers on it so that it’s…you know…useful
I agree, I don’t know why every watch like this has no indices. I guess they really want to focus on the blackness of the dial, but if it’s that black then indices wood almost look like they are floating. I think it would look even cooler. And it would actually be readable.
Maybe just black raised indices on the bezel would have done the job
Really like it and only suggestion I would have would be to add a single matching small blue ydot at 12 oclock as a reference point when the bezel is moved and lose the antireflective outer coat. I am personally wary of PVD coating wear and on this minimalist design it could easilly ruin it so if i bought it I would swap out the bracelet for rubber immediately.
Haha, with this watch no one can complain about the alignment 😆.. I think this is more unique than the Movado, which looks more like a piano laquer...
Damn I remember your older reviews, you always gave me a good vibe so I’m glad your channel blew up. Production quality is crazy too but you always had the same calm and knowledgeable delivery
Really nice design on this watch. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Dave 👍

Thanks for bringing attention to it. Just might have a new dress watch soon, lol.
Making a Sinn 556A Explorer dial with this background would be awesome!!
If you are in the sun, Does it melt or catch fire?
So, this is an electronic watch? How does it get recharged? Replaceable battery?
It’s an automatic, so it uses a mechanical rotor to recharge a mainspring which powers the watch. No battery needed. You can tell by the way the seconds hand sweeps rather than ticks once per second
The branding on the seconds hand omly is great props to boulder for that. Also points for being truthful on just how black this watch is. Ill be looking at this one in the future.
Even the thumbnail caught my attention. What a cool looking watch.
I always like reviews on micro brands, good job on the video, subscribed! 👍
Brian pauses the video at 00:32 ... Looks at the shirt you are wearing .. Thinks OMG that is awesome... Goes and puts his Casio AE1200-WHD on... Starts video again 🤣😆
My job is starting some time after or during the end of this month, so I should be able to afford this when I am in the groove!
🦓💚
Great video! Thanks! With this black, I would prefer some kind of dress watch, but this diver is really interesting.
Cool finish, I think I would prefer more dress aesthetics, then a diver.
Great review 👍🏽
Great to know that last .5% of light absorption will cost you $26,550.
Would be interesting to see other Musou dials on a more normal design watch with indices, steel case, etc. Applied features of the dial would be interesting to see if it pops or not.
I am currently working on a watch company and that was in my plans so cool to find someone that thinks the same😊
^ this. Would love to see the contrast of a busy watch face like a Breitling Navitimer against a vantablack-esque dial.
@robg8963 possible just have to pick what chronograph movement to use
Nice looking watch. Sophisticated.
Never thought I would but I really like this. Good on boldr for doing something different 👌👏
Thanks for the vid. A great and cool looking watch. Here in Europe the brand Venezianico offers also watch with Musou black dial. But in a more classical atyle if design.
love this style. i need one.
Thank you for your video. I’d love to see a follow up with a deep dive on customising this watch 🙏
there is also an italian watch with this particular material, is the "Veneziatico Redentore Ultrablack", is for the same price of this one!
Very cool conversation piece. I agree that more of a fashion statement and a piece of art. With that being said, I could easily tell the time on it.
Thanks, great video, been looking at this watch but I think I might prefer the dressier kind from other microbrands..
Please do a Review on Berny AM7110 (Patek Philippe 5226G) and Pagani Design PD 1717 (Longines Spirit) homage watches. Btw love your reviews👍
Setting up the time would be so hard on this one because it has no markers at all.
If you can set the watch through an app or something it would be perfect.
I do like the look!
Another great video brother 👏
Vantablack costs a lot sure but there is no reason a more affordable watch could not be made using it without the massive price tag. I think Moser has exclusive rights to use it. Like Omega has/had with Liquidmetal.
Venezianico Redentore Ultrablack is $500 and available for sale now!
I really like it although I never thought I would like a dial like this. It does help that it is not a dainty watch.
Nice but the Venezianico Redentore Ultrablack is on another level ❕⚫⚫⚫
Great video as usual. Love this watch. I love watch brands that focus on their own designs like Marloe for example. I might buy this Boldr if the budget allows 😅
Venezianico redentore ultr black was made first I believe with this paint. Then this came out
That's pretty cool, I like Boldrs stuff.
If I needed a "dress" watch icould see me going for something like this.
Thanks for the upload 🍻
Hey Dave👋🏻 Definitely unique !!
I have a Boldr Singularity. Similar concept. Have not found it hard to read and is a great conversation starter. Seems like a lot of people here saying "hard to read" or "hard to set" haven't actually rolled with a watch like this.
My question is, is it easy to set? because I think it’s a cool watch
Id have liked if they had used some printed black lume markers for actual time keeping. It reminds me of a fossil or armami fashion watch as it is.
Wow just wow! Love this review! ❤
Does it come with a silver link and case
Great concept, but feel Boldr could play around with handset offerings, and I'm not entirely sure the case and bracelet benefit from being PVD.
Perhaps they could come up with different variations around this most interesting dial.
Wow really nice design
Interesting watch, would like more colours with this black dial. I think I saw a video of a monza with similar dial
How scratch resistant is the watch?
Like the style and face, yet, oyster like band, Movado like case and bezel marks and Swatch like hands.
Love the black dial paint and bracelet colour. Not what I'm looking for though. I'm looking for small quartz watch with timing bezel, sapphire crystal and INDICES for under $100.
Nice watch! Should have talked about the BOLDR Singularity too
its that black i cannot see the date on it ?
Yeah but does it accurately tell time?
Can you review more boldr pleeasee
I love to have this watch but honestly I can’t tell time with a watch like this
Does anyone make a Spectralon dial?
I'll be anxious to know the 12 when return the bezel 😂
Note: Seiko, it may be an idea
Great review on this watch! When i first saw the image of it a bird came to mind. And now i know the name of the bird, very unique incorporation there!
I do like the look of it but functionality isn't there. Cheers
I don't really get people who suddenly lose the ability to tell the time when there aren't indices. I have a Cartier tank without indices and I can tell the time just fine, and it's harder to do with the case shape?
That said, I got the Singilarity because I thought it was the cooler watch, and of course I have no trouble telling the time on it either.
You did not mention the Boldr Venture Singularity which also has the same black dial. Regardless, good review!
I believe a little shadow is better than the vanta-black, because with vanta black it will be just like and OLED screen.
Although I DO appreciate what they're doing here, I'm just not a black-PVD coated watch wearing person. Maybe I'd swap it out for a black FKM rubber strap, but then that might ruin the aesthetic? Not for me, but still pretty cool.
The alternative is the ultra black by Venezianico, it has a stainless steel case!
I like Unimatic's design more, and they even have versions with hour indices and minute markers for more utility.
I'll have to check the GF's Movado for hand shadows.
are you using fish eye lens on your camera?
Blue lume, you saw me standing alone, without a dream in my heart, without a light of my own
*Walks into direct sunlight*
*Watch spontaneously ignites*
Bro, please check if you can find merchandise or brands that have ultra black clothing like SUITS, polos, tees, shirts, pants etc etc in general but only apart from (exception being) Velvet yet similar to the intensity of blackness. Do a video on that for us curious bees. Thanks!
This will be glowing hot in the middle east summer
Cool watch! Personally I would have preferred dial markings on the most minimalist level for some ability to make measurements.
How many times he mentioned black in this video?
It's the wild colour scheme that freaks me out. Every time you try and operate these weird black controls that are labeled in black on a black background, a little black light lights up in black to let you know you've done it.
I've been wanting a vanta black dial but with silver and white lumed indexs. And vanta black chapter ring with white hash marks.

I like minimalist watches but they still need to be functional. Bezel needs to be stationary so there is a permanently consistent visual reference point.
600$ is really worth it for an amazing themed watch, if you work for it but still it's little much.
Very cool.
Unfortunately the bracelet width is too short at the case boundary which is non-harmonious with the symmetry and integrated precision one suspects they were trying to achieve.
7.5/10
It would drive me nuts on trying to set the time on this thing.
Love it! Although... their site lists it at $608 and availability to be announced / notify me.
The price has magically dropped to $449 - 🤣
I never understood why they put AR on top of the crystal. They can get the same effect from multiple layers of Clear AR underneath.
I think it's pretty cool .
Reminds me of the old Movado
But...how do you tell time
?
Whoever came up with that name is a cool one.
I really want to like this, but I really do not like to Movado-like no markers dial.
It is like Venezianico Redentore Ultra Black, but blackier. 😮
I think it's disappointing that you can still see the shadow of the hands on the watch. That means there are still contracts between the pitch black of the shadow and the watch face itself, which significantly undermines the dramatic factor of the concept.
I would love to see a dress watch by BOLDR, tbh.
I have a Venezianico that uses the same paint and looks similar.
Do you see shadow in light like this one?
@@csb135

I didn't like the strap on the Venezianico. It was too shiny and plastic looking. I put it on a black lizard skin strap which suited the dial better.
I love it.
I'm gonna call this watch: Black Beauty
Why not solar, if it absorbs so much light?
this watch would be perfect with a hybrid variant
Nice looking piece; though not the most useful (like Movado).
The case design; namely the lug area is almost identical to the Seiko 62MAS. The design of the bracelet end links confirm that thought 🤔💭
I have the watch you are wearing T-shirt of ❤
really wish Boldr used nh38 to get rid of the ghost date positions.
It’s a stupid move on their part. It’s not like a NH38 is a lot more money.
i think it's admin/cost-saving in the production line- so they don't have to stock another movement/SKU to inventory.
In a less litigious world, Toto's "Africa" would be playing in the background of this video.
