    I want to like this machine. After we add our second Voron, almost built, I really would like to get a Prusa XL but a have believed that it is still in beta even though it is in production. I have seen some good things our the last few months and hopefully by the time I have the money it will have all the firmware figured out because I really want a 5 toolhead machine.

      I dont feel like it is in Beta, I feel like it is getting better than I bargained for. I did not buy a machine with input shaping, but I got one. I did not buy a machine that is darn near silent, but I have one now. My cost? Nothing extra. Gotta love that.
      Sure, if you consider the landscape NOW, it feels beta to some extent, but when you consider when many of us first purchased it, this is amazing to have and is now my quietest printer, I THINK.

      @@3DMusketeers I'm with you, but only to a point. The dramatic price premium they charge does mean that many of us have higher expectations, and I feel that's rightly so. Sure, the Bambu printers waste massive amounts of material and cannot do dissimilar nozzle temps, but they are a small fraction of the price and have a much better user experience in some key areas. So I'm not quite willing to let Prusa off the hook so easy.
      Once they get true multi-sized nozzle printing working properly, as they hinted at during the product reveal - years ago - then I'll consider the promise fulfilled. They are not far off now, aside from crappy network hardware choices.

    Looking forward to this upgrade making its way to the MK4. There are certain moves that I can hear throughout the building... As an FYI phase stepping is not input shaping. Phase stepping changes the input to the stepper motor to more resemble a sine wave rather than a square wave, whereas input shaping aims to 'predict' system resonances and adjusts the input steps. I'm an electrical engineer; the nuances of motion systems get complicated VERY quickly. Phase stepping can sometimes reduce motor torque, so I'm curious if this change will introduce any 'missing steps' (layer shifts).

    • @3DMusketeers
      @3DMusketeers  3 місяці тому

      I think the MK4 would need an additional accelerometer, but thats okay!

    I have been pleasantly surprised/shocked with how much of a difference the 6.0 alpha FW makes in concert with the newer slicer that disables helical lifts. Before 2.7.2, I ended up having to make a fork of PrusaSlicer to force those lifts off since they were ruining my print surfaces.
    (That's not the only reason, admittedly - my "MultiTool" fork also allows the wipe tower in many places where the stock slicer doesn't like using different nozzle sizes.)

    The more exciting thing for me is that there is a built-in accelerometer in each buddy board. That means one day they will release fine-tuning for inputshaping. Does the MK4 buddy board also have it built in?. Why do they keep calling it RGB light strip when it's only white light. One feature they should add is auto-shutoff of both the light strip and LCD screen. Also, they still need to quiet down diagonal movements above 150 m/s. Did you have to do nozzle calibration as well? Only reason why I did not flash mine yet. As a side note, the ObXidian .4 nozzle seems to eliminate almost all stringing even with silk PLA.

    • @elchavode6479

      From my understanding mk4 doesn't have them

    • @3DMusketeers
      @3DMusketeers  3 місяці тому

      I do not believe the MK4 has it, but I believe there is provisions to add one. Do not quote me there though..
      I dont mind some of the diagonal movements being loud, that is what it is. Every printer we have has issues with fast motions and noise, it is seemingly a fact these days.
      No nozzle calibration (I had done it when we built the machine), just the resonance calibration which is only done for TH1.

    • @ovDarkness
      @ovDarkness 3 місяці тому

      In machines that are repeatable and unmodified there's no need for "fine tuning". This is because the band of the input shaper is typically much wider than a deviation in resonance frequency. Watch Michai Designs interview with Duet 3D engineers.

      @michele_for_prusa 3 місяці тому

      The reduction is not quantified in a decibel scale but refers to the microscopic oscillations produced by the motors during the X and Y movements.
      While this will drastically reduce noise, other parts of the printer will still produce other kinds of noises during the operation.
      On a side note, phase stepping is also meant to partly improve the print quality! 🙂

    • @3DMusketeers
      @3DMusketeers  3 місяці тому

      correct. We dont have a chamber to do proper testing of noise. The post alpha was quieter, other than on fast travel moves, than my noise floor on that set.

  • @Rob_65
    @Rob_65 3 місяці тому

    Your video does not show the real amount of noise from this printer. I also have a 5 headed XL and it screams ... At certain speeds it sounds almost like the printer is coming apart and that is not because of the this metal sheets. With my office door open, I get a good audible feedback from the printer being in the room next doors, 5 meters away from me 😮 I'd love to put the new firmware on mine, but it is used in production and I don't want to risk slowing down production due to bugs/changes in the firmware that affect my printer output.
    Next thing to tackle is the cooling. Better cooling will surely also help creating support that is easier to remove with less visible 'damage' to the part. I am used to be able to get ABS printer perfect parts with easy to remove supports that do not leave any visible damage to my parts but on my XL, support always sticks too well to my parts.
