If you ever hit a note like that performing live, BEND. Just bend, you're never more than a half step away from a good note. The bend will also give you some time to plan your next move.
If the bend doesn't fix it, just bend harder and harder til the string snaps, hopefully taking your eye out so you can leave the stage.

Ian Lerner I’m pre sure it’s when u bend the actual string, so you’ll usually bend it down
@@Eli-rq8et Bending means bending the string across the fret. For strings at the bottom, you'll want to bend them up, for strings near the top, you'll want to bend them down. Takes some practice to do it neatly without disturbing the other strings. Just look up string bending tutorials on UA-cam, and you'll move on to vibrato before you know it.

This is the first I've heard of the infamous Nick Jonas solo attempt, so I didn't fully understand the expectation vs. reality thing at first. In the first clip, I was thinking, "damn, Nick can really play".

He reminds me of my practice days when I have about 5 seconds of successfully coherent notes and I suddenly start thinking I’m Steve Vai, start overdoing the vibrato, the slides, and just like that, in 2 seconds, I forget which note I’m meant to play because I was too busy appreciating my awesome one vibrato note.

The best solos make you FEEL something and I'd argue this one explores feelings a lot of top guitarists rarely achieve! Awkward, uncomfortable and embarrassed.

Saddest part is the studio musician who was never asked to be part of the performance.
It's a bunch of one-shot players who record nearly all studio album solos for pop music and such. It costs less than actually learning to play solos. It's an actual fact. Learned that in music schools :). They can record the whole album in one day. Those guys have like literally 15k albums recordings each under their belts haha

i didnt realize this video belongs to royziv until today. i watched this video several times and loughed in past. Also been attending to couple of royziv courses. Expectations part now makes sense
It’s unfortunate that he choked so bad on such a simple solo when he’s played a handful of better live solos on Jonas Brothers/original songs since he was, like... 15 years old. I mean, that stuff is likely not incredibly complex but it’s a heck of a lot better than what happened here! haha.
He mainly plays rhythm though and is definitely not known for his guitar playing… so I’m not sure why he was given a guest solo gig at a major award show lol. My guess is that he probably just learns/practices solos and doesn’t improvise often, so he choked under pressure. It’s a shame he had to go down in flames like that. He’s proven himself to be a great songwriter in the past and the Jonas Brothers deserve a little more respect than they’re given imo, but this viral blunder did *not* help his case or the Jonas name sadly lol. 🙃

It's actually not that bad. I thought it was more of a disaster based on the article I read. He clearly knows how to play made some mistakes but he is still more talented than a lot of people in the industry.

Most of you don't even understand Nick's technique. He was clearly improvising his own solo and trying to make it unpredictable by his subtle choice of notes and spiced it up with a handful of ghost notes. Truly a virtuoso.
