About Blur:
Blur were formed in 1989 by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree and signed with Food/EMI the same year. Announcing their arrival with debut album Leisure in 1991, Blur continued to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with second release Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993). Five successive UK #1 albums followed - with Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995) helping to propel the band to mass popularity in the UK and beyond. The eponymous Blur was released in 1997 and seventh album Think Tank (2003) was Blur’s first as a three-piece after the temporary departure of founding guitarist Graham Coxon.
Twenty one years after the release of their debut album, 2012 saw Blur 21: The Box, the band's body of work compiled and gathered together into one box. Their most recent release as a four-piece, the critically acclaimed chart-topping album The Magic Whip (2015), started life in Hong Kong when the band had an unexpected break in touring in May 2013.

How this song was omitted from "Modern Life is Rubbish" is still beyond me. It should have even been a single!

After nearly 20 years, I can officially say, they are my fave band of all time. The first concert I went to in '93 was like a religious experience. I was like WTF just happened. This is what it means to be alive! Never looked back. For the reunion concert in 2009 I flew from North Carolina to London just to watch them play again in Hyde park.

it's just such a perfect song, my niece is 17 tomorrow and it's like it was written for her. Blur are like Mozza and the Cure in that some of their best songs are hidden away as b-sides

This is such a special song and a wonderful version. It feels more poignant listening to it now as a relatively old geezer. The melody, damon's voice and coxon's soaring guitar capture so magically a moment in time, when all your life was in front of you. It's uplifting, optimistic and sad all at once. Amazing stuff.

I love how almost everyone at the front of the crowd are women. I guess they're the grown-up teenage girls that often flooded Blur's gigs in their britpop heyday.

This song feels like the sound of Graham (the sound of blur).
No I mean that staying with the music you've first chose to start out with is incredible. But the more incredible thing which they did to me(a fan) is that I never get bored with Blur.Sure they have different songs with different styles but it's like I don't feel Blur's ever wanted to change their colors like most artists nowadays.And I truly love and respect them for that.I don't expect you to understand because me and music are two difficult things to... you know... understand. It's crazy that not only was this _not_ put on Modern Life Is Rubbish (it should've replaced Turn It Up), but that Damon wrote it back then in the first place. This song seems like the perfect song for him to write and record in the lead-up to the Magic Whip, due to him having a teenage daughter by that point in time. But no, he wrote it back when he himself was "young & lovely", completely inexperienced with having kids and how it feels for them to grow up.
Then again, maybe I'm misunderstanding this song.
i agree. it perfectly encaptures the feeling of watching your teenage child grow up. so insane that he wrote this when he'd never even experienced that specific feeling because his daughter was born in 1999, so she wasn't a teen until 2014 or so. what an amazing songwriter. i love this song.
