    Please, please, please do not ever use a black marker to hide the wear (aka brassing) on a black body camera. This will devalue the camera & remove its history. The brassing should be a sign of pride, showing that the camera has been used as intended. In my humble opinion (as a collector, a photographer, & an enthusiast), Chris.

      The concept of Wabi Sabi
      Nothing is perfect and all things are in a state of constant decay.
      It’s seeing the beauty in impermanence.
      A huge reason why I fell in love with my A-1 upon seeing it.

    This is the "Ol' Reliable" in ALL of my collection of camera equipment; bodies, lenses and gear. I took this as back up to a major brand convention. My digital camera decided to act up Right when I needed it most. So I had to switch to this and a film roll that was not suited for the conditions of indoors and low lighting. Luckily 20+ years of knowledge, experience and skill paid off and I got some of the Best images they had seen. From a outdated film camera and sturdy lens. And the professional grade color negative film roll.

    The A-1 was the most feature layered model based on the AE-1. Although it can suffer from the same engineering deficiencies of the AE-1, new it cost nearly double the AE-1 price. Because of the mostly groundless and constant hyping of the AE-1 on social media, the A-1 is now often available for a lower price - a true bargain if you are looking for a body taking the FD lens mount. Back in the 1980s, a friend asked me to assist him buying a camera to take along on a several year job in Barrow, Alaska. (You go to the end of the Earth, then north another 100 miles. Ass-end of nowhere.) Knowing that his photographic skill set made loading film a challenge, I steered him to an A-1, which worked perfectly for him on Walrus hunts in open boats with the neighbors. (Also kept him from borrowing my Nikkor lenses.)

    • @danieldijo
      @danieldijo  5 років тому +1

      At 2:16 I go over the light metering switch. If you have a new battery and switch it on. It might not work. My A-1 will not fire unless the battery is inside. Toggle the switch and see if that fixes it. The camera is Aperture or Shutter priority. Put in TV (shutter mode) and see if it sounds different from 1/60 and at 1/1000

    Hey, recently acquired two of these AE1 Programs and I’m really excited to get out and use them. I noticed that both were having the same shutter lever problem you’ve shown in this video. After following your steps, the lever was released but after pulling back, and pushing the snap button, it became stuck again. Any advice on how to further solve this issue would be appreciated. Thanks!

      The film roll new out of the box has a flap of blank film with a natural curvature. You load it continuously in that same direction. If you're forcing it in the backward direction that's not right.

    Question. When I click the shutter, the number indicating how much film I used should increase, correct?
    But if I don’t have any film in it, would it still go up?
    Reason being is that I just got an A1 Canon Camera and I messed around to make sure it sounds good but when I click the shutter and real it back, the number increased when I’ve been told it doesn’t have a film in it or at least, I haven’t opened it to check because I’m worried about exposing it to light

    • @danieldijo
      @danieldijo  3 роки тому

      Click or half press? If you half press it may be spot metering.

    • @danieldijo
      @danieldijo  5 років тому

      Hi Kong, yeah I purchased it for $5.00. I would suggest going to thrift stores and recycle centers. Any place that takes old technology. The smaller the thrift store the better the deal. They had no idea what the camera was worth. A lot of the time I tell them how much it is worth to me and they take it. I've found Yashica Fx-3, Minolta X-370's, Pentax ME, Canon Ae-1 (2), Canon A-1 (3) and similar cameras. I love it and put them on ebay, usually start bid at what I paid for them after testing them.
