Yes; I'd like to add that I am 53 years old, and except for the 4-&-a-half years I was a permanent resident of Australia, the year I lived in New Zealand, and the half-year I backpacked around the UK, I too have lived here all my life, and the only guns I've ever seen were the ones my father, grandfather, & uncles used to go hunting with. I've even lived in close proximity to bad neighborhoods and have still never seen one. The media blows things WAY out of proportion.

northoftherockies something else he didn't mention is that most people killed by gun violence are killed by husbands, wives, bad drug deal, etc in "revenge." Very very very VERY rarely do you ever have someone die from senseless violence just because you're alive and they have a weapon.

But I carry a pistol on my person at all times as do many other Americans in the event of a terrorist attack or public shooting of any kind. So also remember, if a fire fight does break out, there's a good chance someone in the area also has a weapon. For example, over 55% of the citizens in my state own a gun. I can safely assume about 10-15% of those carry it on their person in public.

And dammed accurate to. I had a friend in Detroit who moved to the UK and married a man there. She brought him and some of his family members back to see America and her home town. Now this is a very, very bad neighborhood. I was bartending and the family refused to come out of the car and go in the bar (pub). We had to go coax them to come in and I gave the bouncer instructions to look after them. He has a pistol clearly sticking out of his pants and places it in front of them and says "I got you" and they were as white as sheets, lol. They loosened up over time and everything was fine. But just be smart where you go. If it looks like a shithole, then it probably is.

I'm 53 years old, and lived here all my life. I've never seen a shooting, never met anyone who claimed to have been involved in a shooting. I've lived in the East, the West, the South, cities and rural communities. Don't worry about guns, worry about fried food, bread. Obesity is more dangerous here than guns. Unfortunately all those goodies can be quite addictive. Lol

Most of the people who are killed by guns are criminals who are shot by other criminals in high crime areas. If you're not a criminal or live in a ghetto (why would you??) You are fine. There is a video where two German Girls went to LA and just decided to take the bus and ended up in Compton. (One of the most dangerous ghettos in America). So yeah don't just wander around a large city. You might end up in a bad place.
I did see a police officer draw a gun. I was about to walk into a gas (petrol) station and two police officers ran inside guns drawn. There were no gunshots. I was close enough to have heard them if there were. But i quickly decided i should be somewhere else. The only time i saw a gun fired was when my grandfather had me shoot a rifle at glass jars when i was 7.
I do have a funny story about the police. A friend of mine was drunk and walked up to a police officer (who for you British people had a loaded gun holstered on his hip) and poked him in the chest with his finger I quickly grabbed him and told the police officer i'd take care of him. The police officer looked like he was thinking on what charges he should arrest my friend on.

Scott Humphreys actually, a vast majority of people killed by guns in the US are suicide victims. Police shootings make up for another small percentage, and accidental gun deaths are a few percent. Crime related gun deaths are somewhere in the 14-17% of gun related deaths in America, and that’s largely gang violence between Chicago, Detroit, LA, and New York.
So if you live in America, and are not suicidal or a criminal, your chances of dying by a gun is about 1 in 50,000 people or less.
And if you live in any city aside from the four I mentioned earlier, your chances are closer to 1 in 350,000

Lived in America my entire life, have been detained at gunpoint by police on several occasions. Never committed any crime. Commission of a crime not necessary, police assume guilt until innocence is proven. Police are fearful, cowardly, trigger happy psychopaths. More than 1000 people are shot and killed by police annually. No one really knows for sure how many, no official statistics are kept, just be aware of the potential for any given encounter with police to have a lethal outcome.

One thing I'd like to add as an American is, after you've been here long enough to be able to afford it, get out on a road trip and see the country. There are so many sub-cultures and regional differences. Where else can you find the Arctic (N Alaska), the tropics (Hawaii), the cowboy culture out west, the Cajuns of Louisiana's swamps, mountains, deserts, unique scenery, spectacular national parks? Nothing whatsoever against other countries, but the USA is a country mindboggling in its uniqueness.

America is a safe place no matter what the media says and reports. Yes, we have guns but the gun violence is primarily between members of gang groups having a go at each other. If you treat even gang members respectfully you will be fine. I work in Los Angeles in a gang infested area and have no problems because I don't run my mouth and treat everyone respectfully.

Jamie Flynn Thank you for not thinking that :)
I own just one gun, Marlin 795, which is just about as vanilla a gun as one can get. It's a very typical semi-auto .22 caliber rifle (it's so similar to the Marlin Model 60 that the two are easily confused for one another - the only real difference is, I think, in the magazine). And while I've never fired it outside of firing ranges, there was one occasion where I did have to point it at two people who were clearly planning to rush me and steal my truck. I was long-term road-tripping through the US and Canada at the time, and it was just me and my dog basically living out of my truck's camper shell and making money via working over the Internet. One afternoon, I was at a quite remote rest stop in Oklahoma - nobody else around except me and the two guys in their own car. After about half an hour they got out and started walking toward me. And while I was definitely weary of the situation, two guys suddenly approaching one in the middle of nowhere after posting up for half an hour in their car on a hot day without the engine on or anything, it seemed off from the start. But my dog's reaction to seeing them tipped the scales into full-defense mode. Normally, she was an overly friendly, derpy-faced border collie who LOVED meeting strangers. But with these two, she was growling lowly and even slightly baring teeth (just enough to let me to know she was doing it, but not for them to see or hear it). And out of the 4 years I'd had her, she'd NEVER behaved that way before toward new people. And border collies are exceptionally observant of body language and facial expressions. So if these two were weirding her out enough for her to act like that, I decided to trust her instincts, and nonchalantly got out my gun and started cleaning the barrel, pretending like I hadn't noticed them yet.
While they were still coming toward me, seeing it - and possibly her, too, did slow down their approach a bit, and got them to speak. One of them asked me if I had any gas to spare. I said sorry but I didn't, and asked if they were stranded with no phone, needed me to call someone for them. They didn't answer my question, but just kept slowly closing distance while trying to act like they weren't. Then the other one asked if I knew where the nearest station was. I offered to look one up real quick for them if their phone was dead. Then they asked me if they could charge their phones in my truck. I told them my truck wasn't able to do that, but offered to jump their battery for them if it was dead.
Now, during this whole exchange, with them asking me questions and not acknowledging any of my responses or offers, they'd been slowly getting closer and closer to me while trying (and failing miserably) to look nonchalant about it. They're just acting REALLY weird and squirrely in general. All the while, my dog is getting more and more edgy with every foot closer they come.
Finally, they come too close for my dog's comfort (about 15 to 20 feet), and she lets out a bark. I snap to attention, raise my gun and point it directly at them. They stop in their tracks and look at me, wide-eyed. I'd thought they could see the gun I had, but I guess they weren't close enough to clearly discern what it was sitting next to me. I was also hoping they wouldn't call my bluff, since in all that time paying attention to their behavior, I'd forgotten to load the magazine >_< (actually, I can't clearly remember whether I'd even put the magazine in the gun - what I DO remember for sure though was that it wasn't at all loaded, in the magazine nor the chamber! But if they did notice my magazine being out of the gun, they had no way to tell whether I had a bullet in the chamber anyway)
By now my dog had seen my reaction and gotten between me and them and taken a fiercely protective posture. I told them I was very sorry if I startled them, but that their odd behavior and continuous slow movement toward me was making me and the dog pretty nervous, and asked them to please just back up a couple yards. I reiterated that if they were genuinely in need of assistance and just didn't do well with meeting strangers (since that IS always a possibility, however remote), that I'd be happy to help them out within reasonable limits - but there was no way in hell they were getting in me or around my truck. The circumstances were just too dodgy for me to allow that there.
After a few moments of indecisively looking at each other and quietly assessing it all, they thanked me for my time, said they were cool, and turned back toward their POS coup. I lowered the gun, but watched them until they got back in their car. I'd also noticed they'd had some odd looking black things protruding from the back of their pants, and up their backs a few inches.
With that, we got back in the truck and fucking booked it outta there asap and made a beeline for the nearest big interstate.
Only later that night did I realize that those odd looking black things they had tucked into the back of their pants were actually KNIFE HANDLES. I was certain then that I hadn't overreacted at all; they WERE planning to rob me (or worse). If they'd gotten close enough to me, they'd have pulled those knives out and bumrushed me, and likely have killed my dog, too, since she no doubt would've attacked them. The thought of what that awkward, tense encounter could've turned into still makes me shudder. I'm SO glad I had that gun with me.
Yeah, I know it's a pretty anticlimactic story, bur that's absolutely a good thing! Anticlimactic means nobody was hurt or killed and the situation fizzled out!

@@jflynn9081 The purpose of the 2nd. Amendment is not about personal defense. The Founders took that as a given. Most Americans understand that. The whole purpose of the 2A is to keep government from becoming too over reaching and tyrannical. People who don't understand this, here in America and abroad scoff at this explanation and say "What? You think your little gun is going to stand up to the military?''. That's not the point. Each and every legal and logical firearms owner knows that members of the military are owners of private fire arms and so are their families. They know that if they were to turn against these very people they would be turning against their own families. For over two hundred years we have not had this situation arise. And it's not because of luck or a benevolent government and it's not entirely because of the 2A. It's simply because we're a free people. The world doesn't understand this is because, quite frankly there really isn't another free country in all the world like The United States of America.

@Wxlfie94 Do research for sure. Any major city you move too, you're paying the same price for an apartment that you would a 3 or 4 bedroom in the inner states/red states. In Arizona (outside of the city) you can find a 3 bedroom house, with a pool, and a big backyard for under $200k or $900/$1200 a month payment (of course, depending on your credit and down payment). The minute you step into the city, you're paying that same price but in rental costs and an apartment. Chicago IS one of the most expensive places to live in the US however, there are places surrounding Chicago that are livable and still gets you that Chicago feel. People move to the city for a lifestyle while people move outside of the city to get their money's worth.

I’ve lived in America for 5 years after moving from the UK. I’m probably not the best person to ask about gun violence since I’m sheriffs deputy and have experienced more gun violence than the average person but actual gun violence calls are rare. once a month if that and the majority of gun related calls are from people who have had gun drawn on them for legitimate reasons and have made up some bullshit that makes it seem like they are were doing nothing wrong and all of the sudden they get a gun pointed at them when in fact they were the aggressor and they made someone who was carrying a gun legally feel threatened so they pulled their gun on them or the other type of gun related call that is common is that someone decided to call 911 because they don’t like the fact that open Carry is legal so they called the police on someone who is open carrying a say that they are threatening people or some other bullshit that basically ensures the cops would actually respond to that call Please don’t let gun violence put you off moving to the USA because it’s actually rare to experience gun violence

I'm a woman. I own a gun. I bought it over 30 years ago for the sole purpose of home defense and have thankfully never had to use it. I bought it with the idea I would have to be committed to owning it for life, so that I would never have to feel responsible for its use in anyone else's hands. I would only use it if my life was threatened; if I'm being burglarized, I'd go out the back door (with my gun) and file an insurance claim (that's what insurance is for). Yes, there are many acts of gun violence in the US - I think because we're a big country with a lot of people, so the chance of having more incidents of gun violence occur are greater.

I spent time in the UK and I must make another point. You must understand something. In America (and I know this is true other places as well), the smallest people have the loudest voices. What I mean is, there are people who have a vested interest in making any problem a pandemic in the US. I noticed in the UK it almost seemed to be the opposite. Where the Government in the UK seemed to want to diminish crime, in the US they overhype it. They always seemed to be telling people in the UK that the public was exaggerating, things weren't as bad, etc. In the US the Government (mostly leftists) love to inflate things to offer solutions (usually requiring lots of federal funding) and to expose an opposite candidate (not strong on crime). Therefore, nothing is ever improving in the US (to hear them tell it). It would be easy for a person overseas to think you will walk out of JFK airport and get hit with a rocket launcher within 2 minutes. You have to learn to kinda see things for what they are, not how they are sold. The US is heavily policed and has massive funding for crime fighting. Much crime is underground and is terrible neighborhoods. Crime doesn't really pay in the US and therefore most people do not engage in it. You can make a suitable living without it. I don't know if this makes any sense.

I've also got to chime in on our supposed "gun culture". I guess to non-Americans, the fact that it's our constitutional right to own firearms makes the U.S. a "gun culture" but really, it's just an ingrained part of our culture. If the politicians spent a tiny fraction of the time they spend trying to institute more and more restrictions on law abiding citizens making gun purchases, and instead focused on CRIMINALS/GANGS, ETC., maybe they'd actually make a dent in the current murder rate in Chicago (my city)....which has some of the most strict restrictions on law abiding citizens purchasing guns....and imagine that.....has one of the highest murder rates in the nation from guns, i.e. from gangs and thugs.
A pet peeve of mine is the current popular phrase (with the media and politicians) "gun violence". I currently own four firearms and have owned various firearms for a good 30 years, off and on, and to date not one of my weapons has ever committed an act of
"gun violence". Remarkably subdued and well behaved, my guns are.
Thank you also for actually stating facts instead of myth statistics. What a breath of fresh air that is to hear. For any Brits that are really concerned, they truly shouldn't be. If they want facts, here's a good place to start on myth vs. facts on the U.S. and guns. www.gunfacts.info/gun-control-myths/guns-in-other-countries/
Thanks, Laurence. Sorry for my little rant. :)

Like I said, I'm not going to get into the specifics of how to tackle the relatively high number of shootings - at least not until I've given this more thought. Though I don't myself feel any need to own a gun, I know some very respectable, law-abiding gun owners. I will say this, though; as someone who is themselves on the brink of moving to Chicago, I've come to discover that, while it is second only to Los Angeles for sheer number of gun-related fatalities, the Windy City doesn't even make the top ten when it comes to the number of shootings per 100,000 people. In fact, fewer people are murdered in Chicago (with a gun or otherwise) per 100,000 people than they are in my current city of Indianapolis. And I've never once felt threatened in Indy, if that tells you anything. Again, I'm not going to pretend there's not an issue; there is. It's just the statistics dictate that it's not enough of one to cower in fear.

Nice typical right wing BS, right down to the "politicians and media" blah blah....tin foil hat....blah blah
Never mind that link with cherry picked information that is mostly irrelevant and not comparable to our situation.
Cities like Chicago and New York do not have higher crime due to laws but due to wealth concentration/distribution and sheer size of population.
Most owners are responsible but there are those with a temper and some bad days and we get another mass shooter. So making guns easier to get would be akin to putting out a fire with oil. I'd rather not see someone go on a quick "shopping" trip after a few of those bad days.
Now before you start with the constitutional right to own err muskets, boy would that solve some problems if like intended it was still for muskets, you have to know that no one is going to take the guns away. They are to entrenched in the culture and there are more of them here then us. So overall I'm a realist about it, but just dont buy into that NRA fantasy world on guns, particularly that every man and woman should be armed, the domestic carnage and road rage gun incidents alone would be of the scale.
Also having said this, the odds of being shot are damn low, It has never been something to think about for me, so if someone plans on moving here, dont worry about it, unless you plan on moving into the worst part of LA. But do get used to hearing about yet another guy with "problems" who decided to fire of a few rounds to get back at society. Much like lightning strikes however it wont likely happen to you.

I never lock my doors or my car and I am in a community attached to a fair size city.
And BTW. The immigration policy of the US has never changed. The US allows one million legal immigrants a year (in addition to work, visitor and student visas). You apply get interviewed, get a physical exam so you're not carrying disease, get vetted through Interpol, and if it checks out, you're in. What you DON'T get to do is swim across rivers, hide in and under trucks to circumvent the law. I don't know of any other country with an immigration policy as generous as the US. I was wondering if you could do a video or share your thoughts on the ubiquity of American media world wide, and how your views of American media may or may not have changed once you had a deeper understaning of the cultural context from living here. Further, do you think there are certain tropes of American media that are widely misunderstood by the rest of the world because they lack an understanding of American cultural idiosynchrosies? I ask because I often run into people when I travel who consume large amounts of American media, and believe they understand American culture, but really only have a caraciture understanding of the US.

Firstly your opinion doesn't affect my Constitution Right to own a firearm. The majority of gun crimes are committed by ex-felons who can't legally possess a gun. There are an estimated 330,000,000 or more firearms in the United States. Under 100,000 crimes in which guns are used by criminals in a year.
A study, known as the National Self-Defense Survey (NSDS) concluded, based only on detail phone survey in 2012 estimated, that somewhere around 2.3million DGU(Defensive Gun Uses)s happened in the U.S. a year.
Kleck points out this only means that about 1 percent of guns in the U.S. are thus used annually. In Armed, Kleck discusses a number of later surveys on DGUs, including one from the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2014, that at least roughly back up his original estimates.

Is Obvious Generally we drive vehicles that are bigger because they are affordable to most Americans. And as you pointed out, because gas is much cheaper. However most folks here now drive cars with 4cyl engine's. V8 cars are no longer the most popular. (Except for large SUV's and pickup trucks.)
Now obviously you can easily find V8 powered cars, but most folks now go for fuel millage.

Dolla Holla Lol. Everyone in the U. S. is lazy? No one walks? I don't know where you got that information from being you've never been here. I walk all the time. If you live in L. A., people drive a lot, but that city doesn't represent the whole of the country. Yes, it is a place where many own cars and the infrastructure caters to drivers, but there are plenty of people who don't drive for various reasons, so they walk or take public transportation. I was born and raised in NYC and a car isn't necessary. You walk everywhere and take the train. That said, I envy the UK and other places in Europe that seem more pedestrian friendly because the streets in America (unless you're in a small town) tend to be huge and difficult to cross. It is definitely a driving culture.. but since I don't drive, I walk..and I'm not lazy about it. 😉 xx

But I digress - being a US citizen I'm curious about what hoops people from other countries have to jump through in regards to immigration paperwork etc to come live/work here. And since you married an American citizen what are the immigration issues that went with that. Did the immigration dept give you or your wife a hard time?

I was in Mexico the first time I saw someone shot and the police shot some lunatic who was trying to kill his mother . In the market .:: next shooting was in Israel old city a few months ago. IDF shot dead a man with a knife who was stabbing people and had stabbed 2 at the point he was shot...
So as an American I’ve seen 2 people shot > while on vacation > in another country > by law enforcement > against a criminal with a knife ...
If we take the guns and knives murderers will return to sticks and stones.

I'm a fifth generation American and have lived in the US all of my life. What Laurence says is quite true about weather, crime, mass transit, etc.
The weather in most of the interior of the country, which constitutes most of the land mass but the least population, can be quite harsh with temperature extremes, precipitation extremes, etc. but most people unless they have a physical anomaly can get used to it. You just have to prepare properly. San Diego has ideal weather.
Mass transit of any kind depends greatly on the region and city. It is most developed within the more populous and congested cities in the eastern half like New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, etc. The US is definitely car-centric in most areas but owning a car in the US is far cheaper than in the UK. Same for housing. You'll get much more for your money in most areas except for San Francisco, NYC, LA where housing prices are ridiculous.
Gun crime statistics can be quite skewed and should really be broken down. In addition to high suicide rates by firearms police shootings also count for many gun related homicides. Again where you are at most risk for assault with a firearms are the inner cities, run down areas and the like. Just stay away from them or if you have to go to them stick to daylight hours. Use common sense. It is not a crime to defend yourself with a firearm in the US, or at least in most jurisdictions. I believe it is a basic human right for anyone to defend themselves, their family or their property from assault. I collect firearms and have a federal firearms license. Collecting is a hobby as is shooting and hunting. In my 53 years I have never seen anyone shot except for police shooting at cornered bank robbers in St. Augustine Florida in 1976. They deserved what they received. I have never shot anyone and never been shot at. I avoid trouble. Never, ever, ever point a weapon at a law enforcement officer otherwise you will be shot. All police are armed and absolutely will not hesitate to draw their sidearms if they suspect you might have a weapon and are a threat to them. Again, common sense.
America still has a lot of improvements to make and a lot of growing up to do. we are a leader in many areas like medical science, consumer technology, economics, military force but have also become very imperialistic and far too unhealthy. We need to be more aware and kind to our neighbors.

This was hilarious! Good video 👍... It always amazes me how the media narrative can drive so much fear into people. The fact that foreigners are scared to come visit America because they're afraid they're going to get gunned down is almost laughable. It reminds me of when I visited Philly, I would tell people where I was from (California) and I would ask if they've ever been here and several people said they were terrified to visit Cali because they were scared of earthquakes. 😂😂😂 As if we just have huge, earth shattering earthquakes every day. Your chances of randomly getting shot in America (if you're not a gang member) are probably about the same as visiting and getting stuck in a huge earthquake here in Cali... very, very slim.

We 'Brit's' drive on the 'correct' side. It all dates back to knights on horseback. The knight holds the horse reigns with his weakest left hand and holds his weapon in his strongest right hand facing his opponent and vice-versa. The same applies to foot soldiers holding daggers, hence the left approach is historically correct.

Yes, when using a melee weapon, driving on the left is preferred. However, once you have a rifle or shotgun, it's easier for a right-handed person to point it to their left than to their right, so driving on the right side of the road is the preferred method of more modernly murdering your fellow travelers.

    • @trancehi
      @trancehi 6 років тому

      gimmethegepgun
Explain that again, I'm not sure what you're getting at or am I missing something? As it happens, I'm right handed and I'm also licensed to own a shotgun. I do not hold the gun on my left shoulder to shoot, it's always the right shoulder, using my strongest right eye to aim. The gun stock is moulded accordingly too. Firing from the left shoulder using my weakest left eye would be the same as trying to write an essay with my left hand and it would be beyond awkward cack-handed to do. The gun stock is always and instinctively held on my right shoulder.

I don't think it has anything to do with your hero. He hasn't done anything except make a lot of noise. Tell me how that has improved the economy? Does chump have some kind of magic wand he waves around to make people like you see everything in a rosy hue?

lawrence fure Surly a genius such as yourself understands basic economics in the US?? Or do they not require that for a Liberal Arts degree? A large part of the economy depends on public confidence. President Trump's actions have boosted confidence in the market and in turn causes individuals and businesses to spend more money thus creating more capital. I'm sure a fiat system and fractional reserve banking is beyond you but if money is not being spent no money can be made. President Trump's deregulation of industry is creating an incentive for businesses to begin and return to the US which in turn gives employment to Americans who then spend their wages creating more capital. Unlike the systems you seem to prefer like socialism, Capitalism requires not only production but people who can purchase the producers goods. While under Democrats restrictions of manufacturing all products were imported therefor all capital flowed out of the country. It's really not a difficult concept.

And yet the polls show that dump is losing ground in voter confidence. I heard today that he is now pushing the blame for his wire tap information onto something he heard on fox news, go figure. The jackass won't even take responsibility for the shit he tweets. BTW, your analyses of todays market confidence is full of crap. Markets don't move that much on only one cause, and confidence in dump as your lord and master has very little to do with it. Get ready for a sharp down turn in the markets in the near future.

"*Good thing* Hispanics are taking over whites are becoming minority." There's a sense of pride in your comment. That white people deserve to be the minority and that Hispanics are superior.
No one takes this seriously. It's a sad excuse for an attempt to matter.

Well, this didn't age well. Imagine being such a partisan that you would misinform people that if they entered the U.S. legally and became a citizen that they could be deported.😂
Or was he just signaling that it may not safe to do so illegally any longer?
    Great content👎

TeeTee LouKy It’s getting really bad there. Those poor girls in Rotherham, Telford, Oxford, etc. They told the police, the politicians knew and nothing was done - still goes on. A father of one of the girls tried to rescue her and the police arrested him! This is not a joke I’m not kidding. Go to gatestone.org or Steynonline.com and there are lots of pieces about this filth. Then of course the 4 min. “trial” of Tommy Robinson and the ban on media reporting of it. (Not that they would’ve anyway.). He basically got a death sentence. Britain has fallen but the wealthy have not been too inconvenienced by it yet so they can afford to look the other way still. It’ll catch up with all of them though. So sad.
