Pandit Jayateerth Mevundi (born 1972) is one of the Kirana gharana’s leading vocalists. Jayateerth hails from Hubli, North Karnataka in India. His initial training began at home, informally singing bhajans and other devotional music. Aged 14 he ventured out to find a guru. Jayateerth received his initial training in music under the tutelage of Sangeet Ratna Pt Arjunsa Nakod of Gwalior Gharana for about 10 years. From 1989 onward, he received musical lessons under the able guidance of great vocalist Pt Bhimsen Joshi. Having trained with Shripati Padigar, Jayateerth Mevundi is a torchbearer of Kirana gharana. His aesthetic build-up of the form is marked by the use of permutation and combination of notes, extensive ornamentation, sargam and electrifying tan patterns. Jayateerth has received many accolades for his brilliant performances.
To name a few - Pt Jasraj Gourav Puraskar, Young Maestro Award, Mewati Gharana Sangeet Gourav Puraskar, Shanmukhananda Sangeet Shiromani Award and more.
In the fifth Bengal Classical Music Festival held in Dhaka in 2016, Jayateerth Mevundi began with an alap in Raag Shuddha Kalyan. The recital was rooted in the serenity and devotion one experiences. The audience was captivated by the nuanced sustained notes, deliberate meends and heavy gamaks and taans which beautifully describe Jayateerth Mevundi’s oeuvre. at the late evening the raag rendition was made memorable by accompaniments.

So good to listen and experience this wonderful recital performance. The Tabla and Harmonium’s accompaniment is so good. The two students or maybe other musicians who are playing Tanpura are also very patiently listening and enjoying each Swaras rendered by Guruji. Ultimately it’s very fortunate feeling to experience! Very pleasing alaap, rag vistar and it's mellifluous take off to different lengths and heights. Excellent harmonium accompany. Seems harmonium is parallel gayan.
