It's pretty common for gel manis, to protect your skin from the UV light. It's not necessary on some LED lamps, and higher quality lamps take less time to cure the gel..

Yeah most gel nail products need to be filed off with an electric file Some can be soaked in acetone for 20 mons to about an hour and that softens them enough that you can carefully scrape them off.
@crystald3655 not exactly. it used to be that ALL gel and gel polishes were file off, but there's hardly any of those around anymore. what you see today are the soak off versions. gel polish WILL soak off with acetone, AFTER you've scratched the shiny surface off. then it only takes 10 to 15 minutes. with gel builder enhancements, especially the builder in a bottle, or biab, again after removing the shiny surface, they can be totally soaked off with acetone, and it doesn't necessarily take over an hour.
@@SarahJSwiftyep it soaks off pretty short for me. however the builder gel you gotta soak twice. it really is a pain in the ass but you have to soak the color layer scrape it then soak the builder gel
@@taylorswiftsucks you have to do that with acrylic as well. Often multiple times, with both biab and acrylic builders. Soak, scrape, soak, and repeat. It's the same deal.
OK but I bet she absolutely loves how you're interested in something she is. You both ate interested in it, in different ways but it's still something you guys can do together! And the parents are rarely the ones interested in what their kids are doing, it's usually the other way around!! This is so sweet!
I work in a Makerspace and we have a UV printer that can spray colored resin onto flat, rigid objects and print whatever you want on them. When explaining how it works, people that get their nails done always pick up on how it works and best practices so much faster. The monomer primer they gave us smells like 100 nail salons heated and liquified into a bottle. We can smell it from a different room 50 feet away almost instantly. A patron was a nail tech and had the idea to wet down a lint free non woven facemask with iso alcohol, barely put any of the primer on the mask fabric to limit exposure (stink) to the rest of the space, and the alcohol acted like a “float” when buffing on primer so it was put down ultra thin and self-leveling. 🤯💅
This explains why I couldn't get the gel polish off my nails after my one and only professional manicure! I hated every part of my experience there honestly, but I was always at least impressed with how long they lasted and how indestructible they were even while trying to remove them.
Soak a cotton ball in acetone, place it on your nail and then seal the nail well with foil to trap the heat. Wait for 20 min and then you can literally scrape the polish off.
@krahvata omg thank you, I didn't think to wrap it in foil but I did try soaking in acetone for like 10 minutes lol I'll have to give that a try next time!!! 💕
Wrapping in foil, cotton pad with acetone - that's right, but you missed the step of using nail file on the surface. You need to thoroughly scratch that polish to let acetone do its work. Don't file your nail surface, you need just to remove the glossy surface of the nail polish. Acetone wouldn't do any real harm unless your skin is damaged (scratches, damaged cuticle, eczema etc.). But after removing your polish and washing your hands you should apply hand cream and remember applying it (maybe carry a small tube with you) for the next day or two because acetone dries your skin. It's ok, just a bit drying. When possible, leave it to professionals because you can easily damage your nail by scratching that polish away. (For that reason i don't do my nails).
Please more nail polish videos! I love painting my nails and just got into uv gel polishes and enhancements, but my science-loving boyfriend is skeptical of their safety. We both know crafting resins can be hazardous, so he’s concerned due to their similarities.

Hi, ive been doing nails for many years and have spent a ridiculous amount of time researching stuff like this because im a nerd. They RARELY, if ever, use UV lights anymore. Almost all nail lamps are LED now. It is no more harmful than sitting under normal lights in your house. The people selling fingerless gloves for nails are using deceptive marketing, or they're ignorant, or they're lying. At the end of the day,, money trumps truth. Do not fall for fear porn. And don't believe everything you read or watch on TV. The news especially is one of the worst offenders of spreading inaccurate information & fear porn. They just did a ridiculous hit piece about gel manis & nail lamps, and it almost broke the internet - educated nail techs were trying to inform & disspell misinformation, and idiots were making things worse. If you are curious about the science and data behind this, i highly recommend looking up Doug Schoon's work. He is an internationally recognized scientist, author & educator with over 30 years experience in the cosmetic, beauty & personal care industry. He is a leading industry authority, known for his technical and regulatory work that has helped shape the beauty industry. He has published many papers & videos on this, and other related topics.
Also, as allyrose mentioned, you'll want to be VERY careful about touching product to the skin (even by accident). Regardless of what nail products you use - acrylic, help, adhesives, primers, even standard lacquer/polish - remember, it is a chemical and you can have overexposure over time and cause contact dermatitis, which is a terrible allergic reaction (sometimes for life). Some people experience this after only a few "accidents", some people develop it over a lifetime. No one is immune. Just need to be careful.
