Back when I was 9 years old I met a hells angels member and his woman at the Dairy Queen in my home town.
The guy had a huge knife strapped to his leg, visible tats.
He sat down at the table I was sitting at. There was quite an impression made on me back then as I was checking out his bike and I began talking to him with no fear. He shared the two wheel life with me and from that day I knew that was the life for me.
Everyone else at the Dairy Queen went out of their way to avoid walking past the couple and their bike.
All my years growing up I was an outcast, a loner and so the freedom of the two wheel lifestyle really appealed to me.
In my teen years I began riding dirt bike, at 18 I got my first highway bike. The two wheel life has been in my blood ever since I met the 1%'er at the age of 9.
The motto "live to ride, ride to live" is my life.
    Riding is life for me.
I have gone through hell in my 55 years of life and when I am on two wheels life is breathed back into me. So as the saying goes I do live to ride and I ride to live.
The only time my bike is parked is when I am in the office or it is to damn cold to ride. Little hard to ride the Minnesota winters. But that is coming to and end soon.
So back to the question "do you fear the 1% biker? NO! I didn't fear the 1%'er with the tats and a big knife at nine years old, so why fear the 1%'er now!

I've seen a few get beat down bad. I know a few guys in a local 1% error chapter and the 1%er was so trashed would get up to start his bike and fall over. The property of that was with him was crying and upset and was trying to convince her man to not and try and go anywhere.
I knew the chapter president and called him and told him about the Shit show that was taking place. This wasn't a bar but at a local mom and pop bike shop. He told me to "subdue" the guy and he would be on his way with some other bros. I did it and disarmed the dude and just waited he calmed down when I told him the pres was on his way. Once they showed up not much was said they threw the dude in a work truck with his old lady and another bro rode his bike out. The pres just told me thanks like he wasn't in the mood to talk and left. I'm good friends with his niece and brother and that's how I knew him on a personal level. Some guys are completely cool and have a humble down to earth attitude and others are complete idiots. One on one most are not much to deal with but there is always reprisal. And I will say some of the younger guys coming up box, do mma, or some sort of combat sport

Nope, not afraid of them at all. I would not wear their patch if I did not belong in their club,
but to me, that's just common sense. That having been said, I'd go to a club not caring who
was there, and if they were friendly or I would be, I am sure things would be rather pleasant.
I would NOT start asking about their club policies because that wouldn't be my business and
as with anyone, don't assume familiarity with anyone until they know you better.

Underneath that 1% patch, underneath that back patch, underneath the big beard, underneath that tattoos, underneath the muscles, is just a man. No more of a man than you or I or anyone else. So why should they be feared? In a lot of cases all of the things that I mentioned above are nothing more than a visual deterrent. The average individual has become accustomed to having fear for something that looks scary. The MC culture has used that to their advantage throughout the years. Now don't get me wrong, there are a lot of men who really are "bout that life". But you don't have to look a certain way or dress a certain way or even be in the MC culture to be a true badass individual. There are people who use the MC culture to hide who they really are. Guys who grew up all their lives being wimps. Getting their lunch money taken, getting beat up in the locker room, never having a girlfriend, never fit in to any particular group in school. All of a sudden they get grown, gets mature enough to grow a thick beard, get their arms covered in tattoos, joins a gym and puts on a little muscle, goes out and buys a Harley Davidson, puts on some dark shades and a bandana or backwards baseball cap, puts on a leather vest, some even join a club and now all of a sudden they're a "badass"? Nah, no need to fear any man.

I think of them like grizzly bears. The patch proves they can be dangerous and unpredictable. Since I don't go into their habitat (bars) there's little chance of an encounter. When seen in the wild I give them space and don't look them in the eye - just like grizzlies. This carries so far that I don't even speak to Harley riders unless they speak first. Been riding motorcycles over 40 years but am not a "biker."

In Florida there are several 1% clubs, I have ran into most all of them at bars & rallies and have never had an issue with any of them. They all have been friendly enough, they seem to keep to themselves. The "bikers" I have bad experiences with are the douchebag weekend fair weather wannabes. They only ride when its nice weather for short distances and want to take their impotence out on the public by pretending to be some bad ass. I did see once, a drunk Outlaw messing around with some dudes wife, the husband told him to step off, the Outlaw took steps towards the husband. The husband threw a straight right and knocked the Outlaw out cold. The guy grabbed his wife, got on there bike a high tailed out. The Outlaw that got laid out, his brothers picked him up and went on about there business like nothing happened. My wife was worried one of them got the plate # off the husbands bike and would hunt him down. I said I doubt it, he guy who got knocked out probably took some teasing from the guys, and that was about it. I think people have this idea that 1%er's are these vicious animals that destroy everyone in there path. They do what the do, and as long as you keep your nose out of what they do and treat them the way you want to be treated, you'll have a good time with them. Start meddling into there affairs or acting like a dick, you might get smacked. Keep on keepin on Itchymoche!

Great story Itchy, really don't do the bar thing anymore but I've always tried to mind my own business and go by the motto of you don't bother me and I'll do the same for you. Now we all know that like you said there are always the exceptions and thats where the rub is. I actually worked with a guy in Texas who was a Bandidos member, he was a great guy and we did quite a bit of drinking together at the time. One day after work he invited me and a friend to go have beers after work and he said we were going somewhere different so we jumped in his truck and off we went. Down into the Barrio of San Antonio and he pulls up in front of a torn up building bullet holes and all with a ton of bikes out front it was the Bandidos clubhouse. Now my friend and I in no way fit the biker profile and we both were scared out of our minds, personally I figured this was it. Little back story the Bandidos had killed a judge named Wood and at this time my mother was on the Federal Grand Jury that was hearing the charges. We expressed our reservations about being there Dick told us not to worry about anything we'd be fine. We walked in and it was like a movie, everything stopped and everyone turned to look at us, I almost peed myself. Big guy comes over Dick tells them we are his co-workers and we are okay. He came over shook our hands welcomed us and the party was on. We tried to buy rounds but they wouldn't not let us,. Had a blast but we never went back.

As to your 1st Question 1st, i Rarely go to bars, and if i go in and it's full of 1%ers, YEP i leave !! i Find them to be too Unpredictable, is there a prospect in the mix with a few too many (and yes i know most 1% clubs Prospects are not allowed to drink.....but they do) I had one at a Rally confront me for taking pictures, what he didn't know was his charter president was a friend of mine and was right behind me and i knew it. I'm a Former Patch holder in Clubs from AMA to 1% Support (because i was a navy cop) i was not permitted to step up above support. So it's not fear, it's i don't want to deal with the schizophrenia that can come with some 1%ers, like in your own story the patch holder came in starts pounding shots and then has to whip out his dick and start to intimidate some yuppie bikers probably minding their own business. and for what ? 1 on 1 the patch holders i have known over the years were some of the nicest guys you could ever know, but get a small to medium size group and the pack mentality comes out and i'm too old to put up with that.

I have spoken to 1% bikers and honestly found that they are not too much different than any other human being. You hear stories and stuff however, I personally have never had a problem with any of them. I think mostly because discussion revolved around motorcycles. They have their life to live. I have mine. He also says that the interest in 1% clubs is falling. Members are groing older, and the younger riders aren't interested in the 1% image anymore. Years ago I was in a local bar, quiet night, just three of us at the bar, myself, a little way down the bar to my right a young guy with his face all scratched up and scabbed over, and a couple seats to his right the President of our local 1% club. The 1% club president asked the kid what happened to his face. The guy replied "my boyfriend kicked me out of our house and drug me down our gravel driveway". The club presidents yells "what the "F" did you just say?", I'm thinking he's going to swing on this poor gay kid and I'll probably get some blood splattered on me. The kid repeats his story, the club presidents say's "that shit ain't right, you got a place to stay?", the kid did not, so the club president called one of the girls behind the bar over and talked her into giving the kid a place to stay for a few nights until he could get his shit figured out. Never assume you know what someone is going to do just because he's got a patch.

As is with life in general, treat people with respect and you receive it in return. 1% may do things somewhat different, but that is their business, not mine. I’ll bs with anyone who loves bikes. Typically they will as well. My experience has been that they can be a good time and if they need you to leave they will tell you. Typically it’s to keep you out of their business, whatever that may be. Respect guys. It’s not difficult. If you regularly don’t show respect to strangers then perhaps you should reconsider roaming beyond your own front door.

Most 1% bikers i knew were like anybody else , they had familys , mortgages and a job . On the other hand i would not give them a reason t0 be be mad at me either . The guy in the bar sounds like he was looking for trouble even if he wast a 1% biker .

As a non biker, but with a number of biker friends and former boyfriend, I've never been afraid of any biker group, except for the Pagans. But, coming from where they began, and with 1 interaction with a chapter on Memorial day weekend of 1977, you would have been nervous following it too. This was during some of their most natorious years middle 70's through the 80's. They were having shootouts with other 1% clubs over some senseless shit. In 1 case, a small child, who family had nothing to do with either side, was killed in their crossfire. That happened in Elsmere Delaware.
My incident happened in a beach resort bar, which was normally known to be a locals and Coasties hangout. We've all been drinking beer, playing darts, when suddenly, all you could hear was a huge group of Harleys revving up, followed by near silence. It was a couple chapters of Pagans. They were coming in before we could head out. The only back door was behind the bar itself. We had to put up with some rude remarks on our way out, nothing to bad, until I got groped! I went into auto pilot afterwards, turned and slapped the offender in the face, I was still young and dumb, only 16. A couple of my friends hustled me out the door, and down the street real quick. I was warned a couple days later that that fellow was looking for me, so I kept a low profile when I knew they were in town.

When I was in college I spent part of a summer travelling in the east coast of Canada and ran into a member of a prominent 1% club on a ferry. I didn't realize at first since he wasn't wearing his cut, but we got talking, he offered me a smoke, and we went out to the smoking area. I had zoned out staring past him at the horizon trying to deal with my sea-sickness and I guess he thought I was staring at one of his club tattoos. After I apologized, explained, and told him I meant no disrespect, we had a great conversation about everything from some of the places I'd seen so far to his classic car and bike collection to some reading we had both done on different world religions. Definitely one of the most interesting people I met on that trip and someone who had lived a lot of life. My two cents worth, like most things in life treat people with respect and don't stick your nose in someone else's business and you've got nothing to worry about.

That patch is their choice and i have nothing to do with any of their
activities so what would i be afraid of.But if i see a bunch of them stopped
somewhere il keep going and stop further down the road. I do not stop in bars
i do not drink while i ride so chances are slim il run into them. Nothing against them
or what they stand for i just rather stay away. If a rival club shows up or someone they do
have a problem with id rather not be around to see what happens. Been riding all my life
i ride solo all the time. The club scene is really not my style of a person. If i do run into them i
mind my own business speak when spoken to and that is it.

My ole man was a patched member of a national group. Made me and my brothers promise to never join a club. I came close in the early nineties but I walked away. I don't have any beefs with any of the clubs other than one. The only reason I got a beef with them was because they stole my bike. Other than that, I'm good.

Have no fear of 1% clubs. They are just ordinary people like everyone else who have families and jobs. I respect them all because they have put in alot of work to earn the right to wear that patch. I have more fear of the people that are not even in a club.
