I especially liked and admired Mean Joe Greene and he hated the moniker in part because he was really gentle off the field, like Dr. Jekyll was a real gentleman when he was not sampling his own brew.

I'm assuming Ole' Whiskey was Billy Kilmer?
Never knew Sonny Jurgenson's given name was Christian Adolph (maybe Sonny wanted it that way...?)
If you missed it Fred Hampton -- who played his first 3 years with the Packers, and just missed 1000 yds by a combined 8 yds 2 yrs in a row -- was nicknamed "Scooter" (well, I had to rewind to see "Scooter" pop up at the top of the screen for 2 seconds ...)
Gotta luv that Fair Hooker ... is his "real name."
Not only was it good to see Harold "Soul" Jackson nickname, I had never seen Harold "Soul" Jackson in those (sharp) white Eagles uniforms. Jackson was always a #29 LA Ram in my mind.
Great D linemen David DEACON Jones and Charles BUBBA Smith came to be famously known for their famous nicknames ... but CARL "Moose" Eller. Where did Moose come from? And Roy "Moonie" Winston? Only in Minnesota Viking country, I guess.

When I think of nicknames of those times, it brings me to 2 very special players on the same team. The Doomsday Defense was full of outstanding talent such as Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson who was as exciting as any at his position in that day. There was Cliff "Crash" Harris. Who finally made the HOF as he well deserved. There was Harvey "Too Mean" Martin, nobody was faster off-the -snap than #79. Then there are my two favorites. Ed "Too Tall" Jones. my 1st favorite when I became a fan of the Cowboys. And the one I call a human volcano. Randy "The Manster" White. Who emptied his bucket on every play. Played like his life depended on each snap. What a special group that was when they were all together. How Bout Them Cowboys.

@@markgardner9460 When I think of the cards me and my brothers collected in those days. One of my favorites was TooTall's 75 card. Where he's in his 3-point stance ready to charge. he was not the pass rusher that Harvey was. But Big Ed was stout against the run. And I don't who had tipped more passes than #72. That defense was at it's best int the 77 playoffs. Much of it was due to Too Tall playing the best football of his life. And I don't know why he is not in the Ring Of Honor. That needs to be corrected.

@@markgardner9460 that’s true and why he got the nickname as a rookie. Then he hit a running back named choo choo and announcers picked up on it. Why it really stuck was that he was the hardest hitting player in the league. Getting hit by him was liking walking the railroad tracks and getting hit by a night train. They actually had to change the rules, because the league thought he might kill someone. He hit with his whole body and then reached up to yank the face mask in case he missed. Legal at the time. He also invented the cornerback blitz. Didn’t tell anyone, just saw his opportunity and took off leaving his man all alone.

Falcon’s Harmon Wages (5) was also known as “Charmin’ Harmon” due to his good looks. He once scored a “hat trick” - scored three TDs in one game vs the Saints; one by passing, one receiving, and one rushing TD. But he was often in Coach Van Brocklin’s doghouse.

I wonder if Van Brocklin had him assigned #5 because he was hoping to be a three way threat like Paul Hornung was.

Yes. I recall reading years ago that he dated Deborah Norvile while she was in college.

I was wondering if he was called Charmin because,at times,Van Brocklin considered him to be "soft?"

Sonny with the jump pass vs Philly! Looking like Joe Kapp! Don't get me wrong I loved Kapp's leadership and grit, but he wasn't in Jurgensen's league as a passer! ,( But almost no one was!)
