Oh, and don't forget the poncho! Every teacher and girl student seemed to have one in the early 70s in my grade school! Haha!
Yes, I wore a few ponchos in elementary school.
Or Junior High...😊
Thank you for watching and sharing another item for us to remember!
Also macreme vests
@@randallkoch6215 or if macrame failed you could use old pop tops like Terp! And dont forget the mary tyler moore shawl!
I would go back to the 70s in a heartbeat and stay there, even knowing all I know now. I'm a 70s girl and always will be.
Polyester shirts from the 70s are nice.
Sixties for me!✌️
Love the 70s and 80s style but mostly 70s
Yes! 70's all the way, every day.
@@The70sGal-mf2xc Shiny silky polyester shirts from the 70s.I love them.
What!! were we thinking. I was in my 20s in the seventies and now 70 in the 20s. It was a lot more fun but I see these fashions and have to laugh. Some cool, others not so much. Thank you Rhett for the trip, as it were, down memory lane.
You're welcome and thank you for watching. I think every decade has their what were we wearing? At least the 70s are well remembered by younger generations.
I think skinny jeans, and everything black or grey is more ridiculous. Even on thin people their thighs look like wrapped hams.
@@RhettyforHistory a lot of this happened because advances in polyester caused it to be more mainstream and perfect for holding patterning. However compared to polyester today it breathed like a plastic bag. Remember clothes get bigger as economies get smaller
They say 60s and 70s are the new 20s, LOL, wink.
@@scottjeune154 Along with widespread drug use among the so called artists and clothing designers.
This video brings back some memories. I truly loved my childhood in the 70s. My father loved his bell bottoms a d my mother used to wear these clogs that made noise everywhere she went😄. What I loved most was the free spirit of that decade. People weren’t so stressed like today. Kids had more freedom. During the late 70s and the 80s I could leave with my bike in the morning and return in the evening and nobody worried. Nowadays children can’t even leave their driveway or their parents get frantic. Times have surely changed and not for the better.
Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories of the 1970s!
Her shies may have been Dr. Scholl’s wooden sandals; they were very popular and known for the clop sound they made.
What happened that made it so bad today? curious really...
@@efogg3 ?
Me too! Out all day home when the street lights came on. So glad I grew up 60s/70s. So much fun. Great music too.
I lived and loved the seventies....would go back in a heartbeat to those carefree days!
I remember having a pair of bell bottom jeans in the 70's that were made out of denim squares that were stitched together. They were my favorites.
That style was very popular! Thank you for watching and sharing what you had.
Patchwork bellbottoms: patchwork became *very popular in the mid-70s; one could even get printed fabrics that looked like patchwork. You could see dresses and tops made of patchwork fabric, skirts too.
Yep and then they sewed a straight line down the front of a hair's width of the denim to make a ridge. Those were my fave. They started sewing various patterns that way. Then came Jordache' and Chic in 79 and the 80s. That was my slow rebellious transition away from bell bottoms.
I had some too! I paid 20$ on my mom’s credit card and thought she was gonna kill me 😂
Had a pair of those, too!
1970’s was the best time in my life. That time I was young teenager.
For those of us who grew up in colder climates, a must-have was a maxi coat for winter. Down to your feet, solid color wool, black or navy, double breasted with contrasting buttons. You ore them with matching bulky knit hat, scarf, and gloves. I was so proud when I finally talked my mom into buying one. She said it made me look like a war refugee from Europe.
😂 regarding your last sentence. :)
I agree about maxi coats in the colder climates...but not when the snow finally melted.
I had a patchwork rabbit fur one. 32 degrees out and 5 minutes in that coat and you broke a sweat. Plus it shed everywhere. I quit wearing it after about 4 tries or so. Tired of spitting hair.
Yes! Those came out when I was in fourth grade and I had to wait until 7th grade to get mine. My mother was still dressing me like Jackie Kennedy in 1970 and I used to sneak cool clothes I was only allowed to wear around the house, in my book bag and change in the bathroom at school!😂
Clothes back then were made so much better than they are today you could keep them for decades, and they still would look great.
Who ever thought we would miss the 70s!?
Who knew but a bunch of us do now. Thank you for watching!
The fashions, not so much.
The girls aways looked great, but I remember listening to alot of 60s music and I loved 60s GM cars. I later thought to my self that 70s period was a drag. But now I'm 62 and I have alot good memories of that time in my life. Monty Python flying circus really helped out alot. 😊
Wrap dresses are classic, figure flattering and timeless 👌🏾
We loved our low cut bell bottoms= " hip huggers! Also Peas coats= Navy issue dark blue double breasted jackets with side pockets and buttons with and anchor !💝 I was living in. San Francisco so I got to see it all!
I miss catalogues!! Ours always had dog eared pages within a week. Especially enjoyed the Christmas ones.
As a kid in the 70s, I loved STAR WARS t-shirts, jeans with holes in the knees, and tennis shoes that made me run really fast. 😃
Thank you for watching and also for sharing some of your memories!
I saw Star Wars when it first came out, 1977, I was 16 and saw it twice with 2 different friends on the same day, LOL!
Those were the days my friends we thought they'd never end. But they did, and how.
I was born in 1970, and I remember possessing some corduroy trousers!! I've also had a mood ring, and I still love wearing bangles!!
Thanks for bringing back happy memories, Rhett!! XXXX ❤👍💗💍👖
You're welcome and thank you for watching and sharing some of what you had!
My son is 26 & still looks for corduroys. Wide whale & Levi’s
I also had corduroy trousers but I really hated those!
@@Benjorunner i still rock platforms, moodrings, lomg hair, kaftans, headbands n big headphones. My video collection is old donny n marrie shows, superfriends, norman lear, and don kirschner. Even uploaded the KACHUNK of an 8 track player as an mp3 on my ipod so when im listening it does that at random while listening to gerry rafferty or salsoul and everywhere between. As a female you learn real fast DO NOT RUN WHILE WEARING A TUBE TOP!!!😂😂😂
Haha! Good advice! Thank you for watching and giving us a laugh!
depends on the cargo.
You learned to hold the top part. I had those and halter tops. Loved them. They even made jumpsuits as a connected tube top with shorts all in one piece . Mostly in Terry cloth. I had a blue one I wore a lot at home.
yep 😅 i remember
Yeah you got chased.
Painter pants and midi skirts were big fashion trends in late 70s. I remember wearing them.
I was a kid in the 70s and had many tube and halter tops. I also had a few tube top sundresses. I don't think I could have gotten through the hot summers without them. I also had clogs and the mood ring. That picture of Linda Carter in the wrap dress...she is so beautiful!
Yes she is. Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories and items you used to have.
I totally agree!! I was fortunate enough to be born into August of 1970& I have nothing but wonderful memories & absolutely love & miss the music& the fashionable outfits! My Mom always made sure I was dressed very well & kept me up with the trends...even as a kid....like I had any clue what was up with popular looks then!😄.. but looking back I'm very grateful she made the effort & cared if I looked nice. The clothes were fun in the 70's! Great music too! Nothing better to hear songs from back then.... Ambrosia, Heart, Atlanta Rythym Section, Firefall, Styx,Pablo Cruise, Little River Band, Diana Ross, Guess Who, Eagles, Elton John! Too many to count! Great childhood experiences & memories 😇. God Bless us, Everyone!!🙏
Going through old catalogs online reminds me of how prevalent plaid was, especially plaid pants which apparently was required fashion if you were a kid.
It was certainly popular. Thank you for watching!
I had a pair of plaid trousers I wore until they almost fell apart.
Oh, yeah! You just brought back the memory of my plaid corduroy bell bottoms. 😆
I think you added some pics from late 60's and early 80's. 60's and 70's (and 80's) were great time with great music. Before cellphones and socialmedia people and life were better and happier in so many ways.
I loved everything about the 70s! I loved corduroy pants/skirts, tie-dye shirts, bell bottoms, etc. I seem to remember overalls being popular then also, but maybe that just depended on where you lived. I had the same orange Sunkist shirt that’s on the thumbnail! I wasn’t a fan of jumpsuits because they were hard to get out of to go to the bathroom! I had medium sized platform shoes….not the huge ones the bands and models wore, and I did have a pair of clogs that I loved. Thanks for the memories!
You're welcome. Thank you for watching and sharing some of what you had. Overalls were definitely a thing and they had the flared legs as well. I could definitely see how the jumpsuit would be an issue in a stall.
I am in my 70's and still have my favorite clogs. I still wear them.
That's really great that you not only still have them but wear them too! I know a lot of people said they were uncomfortable. Thank you for watching Linda!
I grew up threw the 70's
good time back then.
If I had a time machine I'd go back and visit..
✌️🤪
Wow! Some real Blasts from the Past!!!! I loved my pink, hip hugger, corduroy elephant bottom pants!!!!❤❤❤❤ Also, my halter tops and oh my platform shoes ❤❤❤❤
I was born in 1974. I guess that's why I love the 70s so much. I think it would be cool to own some of those clothes. I hope the 70s come back in fashion. My eyes thank you.
Who remembers the blue with white stripes Starskey Adidas? I wanted a pair of those! They were so popular at the time, but it was hard to find them in kids sizes.
Those were really popular! Thank you for watching!
I've mentioned this elsewhere but the 1970s had the absolutely worse fashion and materials BUT it was an enormously BRAVE decade for fashion. I have nothing but the highest respect for this "What the heck, let's go for it" trend in fashion. Synthetic material didn't breath and was uncomfortable to wear but darned if they didn't wrinkle. Once again, an excellent video and addition to your channel.
Some of those silk and polyester items were pretty breathable but corduroys were certainly not. Thank you for watching!
@@RhettyforHistory Corduroys were O.K. in cooler weather.
Those were the days! Thank you.
Thank you for watching Ron!
As a teen I loved my tube tops, clogs and cords! Simple life and great music!
I was born in ‘79. I wore mood rings in the early ‘90s when they came around again. I probably still have one laying around and would wear one today. My best friend growing up and I would drive almost downtown to shop at the vintage and hippie stores here in Atlanta like The Junkman’s Daughter. There’s even a drive-in movie theater with a flea market near there.
I still love clogs & Birkenstocks. I wear tie-dye and peasant & crocheted blouses all the time. They’re just more flattering with my body type and height. I wish more companies would make 70s style lingerie still. Everything has so much wire and padding now.
I remember growing my bangs out so I could part my hair in the middle and I’ve kept that style. I guess I decided on the hippie look around age 14 and stuck with it.
Thank you for watching and sharing some of the fashions that you adorned. It sounds like you were born in the wrong time period.
Great times back then. I miss from the 50’s on. The 60’s rocked that’s when I saw The Beatles in 64 & 66. Plus many many other bands. I had many of these clothes too. Always wore platform shoes.
Good Morning Rhett 🙋🏽. This is a good one ‼️ I grew up in the 70's. Thank you for sharing this with me ❤️
You're welcome and Good Morning Carole! Thank you for watching and I hope you have a great day!
@@RhettyforHistory thanks Rhett , I hope you have a awesome day too ‼️👍🏽
Your channel is absolutely awesome. I love the nostalgia. I wish they would bring the 70s and 80s back drop all the technology and go back to the way. Everything was here was a time when people interacted with people.
Thank you for watching and I'm happy to know you are enjoying the content!
Earth shoes! Loved them! Wish they still made them.
If I could go back in time for a vacation, I would to L.A. in the 70’s. I’d love that!
shopping for clothes before the school year began ( mid-late 70's) was easy for me and my friends. We bought a few pairs of Levis and that just about did it. Of course it took a few months of washing them before they got really good and comfortable. Then the ultimate was when they began to fray (sp?) and holes started appearing in the knees. Some folks used patches, but most of us just left them alone. Finally... they would get so torn that we would get scissors and cut them in to shorts. No big fashion statement or anything. You just used stuff as long as you could. ".... and though you want them to last forever you know they never will... you know they never will. And the patches make the goodbye harder still." --- Cat Stevens
Good Morning nostalgia buffs..one of my favorite channels
Good morning and thank you for watching!
Everyone I knew had HASH jeans w a big ⭐️ on the back pocket!!!! Totally loved the 70s clothes!!!!
When I was a little girl in the 70s I had a pair of white boots and I loved them with all my heart. They were comfortable and they were gorgeous. I must’ve been about seven in 1977 and I loved my white boots. Something else they forgot about was a comb in the back pocket with the handle sticking out. And roller skating in knee-high socks, and wearing Satin shorts with knee-high socks. Plus the long hair. Long hair in the 70s was beautiful on men and women. The Bee Gees were also one of the best things about the 70s. Their music is still relevant today. I love the Bee Gees.
I was a teenager in the 1970s. Good times. I never owned a pair of white go-go boots though and I guess that's why I still want some (I'm 64 years old!)
Hey Rhett, this was my high school time, from 1969 - 1971.
These garments were all the rage, but in my high school, the bell bottom jeans, the fringe jackets, mini skirts, the Patton leather boots, and chockers for girls were the norm.
However, we also wore the non modern attire as well.
Regular jeans, t-shirts, loafers, and let's not forget the hair styles!
Thank you my friend for this flash back.
Oh yeah, almost forgot the polyester suits!! What a joke.
Thank you again.
You're welcome. Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories. You're right about the hairstyles being interesting as well. The whole decade was interesting especially looking back on it now.
In this worrying world, I'm going back to my early childhood fashion. The born in the 70s, grew up in the 80s and raved in the 90s Gal and I just bough some Swedish clogs. They're so comfy and I wore them as a child for 3 seasons out of 4, well we have snow in Sweden lol
Love watching these 70s memories vids cause I start to remember things I forgot about .🙂
We used to make our own halter tops out of bandannas and scarves. We sewed colorful fabric inserts into our pant legs to make them flare even more. We wore our jeans out and then put fun patches on the holes.
Love the ladies who wore tube tops and halter tops.
I am so thankful that I grew up in the 70s. Thank you for this awesome video, I had forgotten about a lot of the things that you mentioned in the video. I remember wearing Levi’s corduroys, they were very popular in my high school, and students would rip the tag from the back pocket off of unsuspecting kids as they were walking down the hallway.
I am 72 Miss Those Days. I Still Got My 1974 Z 28 Camaro 🙂
Omg!! I LOVED going through my aunts clothes from the 70s! She was a flight attendant and all of her clothing was packed away in the attic 😂 I don't know Rhetty, I think I'll just continue to enjoy the awesome 70s music she left me and keep her clothes exactly where they belong....packed away in boxes 😂. Thanks Rhetty!
You're welcome and thank you for watching Robin! That's neat that you still have your aunts clothing from the decade.
You could donate to a museum.
@@rharvey2124 I never thought of that but I couldn't possibly give up my aunts flight attendant uniform until I wear it at least once for halloween 😂
You should wear some occasionally for retro effects.. not only are they popular, but also valuable. Take good care of those heirlooms..
Thank You for this trip down memory lane. These types of videos help us to remember some things we forgot all about.
I remember those bell bottoms. Our junior high school had big staircases. The girls would often step on their pants legs & fall down the stairs. Good thing we were young and agile. We usually caught ourselves after only going down a step or two.
Thank you for watching and sharing your memories with us. I also remember mine getting caught in my bicycle chain.
I’m late to the party, but I was Teen through the 70’s. Although they weren’t care free War, inflation, riots, energy crisis, they were not as scary and dangerous as today imo. Do you remember toe beads that looked like you were wearing sandals but you were bare footed. Did you split your jeans down the seam from the bottom to the knee and sew cool fabric in a triangle shape to make your bells bigger, or your old western cut jeans bell bottom. Hip hugger jeans were cool. We use to take old jeans and make purses out of them. Pheasant tops , CPO jackets, desert boots. Going to live concerts of our favorite bands almost every weekend, it didn’t cost so much as today. I’ve seen Moody Blues , ELO, Rod Stewart, BTO to just name a couple. Stadium seating was out lawed after some kids were injured and killed when a large crowed rushed the door. I think it was in the early 80’s ? Some schools had smoking rooms for the kids you had to be 16. Back then smoking wasn’t harmful lol. My doctors smoked sometimes while writing down their doctor stuff! When I was a child doctors still made house calls. I miss the 70’s because it was safer, not so complicated, and as Americans we were much more together in almost everything. Stores still closed on Sundays and no alcohol sales on Sundays either. 😮😊
Thanks for the fashion memories! 🙌🏼🤩
Dr. Scholl's Sandals, Earth Shoes and "Water Buffalo" Sandals were my absolute favorite footwear.
I was bummed when bellbottoms went out of fashion in the early 80's. It felt weird to wear straight leg jeans again after 15 years of wearing bellbottoms.
❤❤❤The 70's. Wish life had a reset button.
I love the 70s the best of the best.
Thank you for watching!
*Loved the video!!*
I don't recall some of the clothing...
Probably because I lived in a small town!
I love(d) bell bottoms and clog shoes, but "not" the high rise clogs!
Loved seeing the pictures of *Elvis & Farrah Fawcett!*
*Thank you for making this video!*
There really were a lot of different styles in the 70s. Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories Bonnie!
i remember everything, vividly..it was an easy transition from the '60's ✌️
I still fondly remember my black knit, bell bottom zip front jumpsuit. Except when I was in the stall of the Macy’s restroom; I started to zip my jumpsuit back up, and my waist length hair got stuck. My long hair, another feature of the 70s, also got caught up in the covered toilet paper holder when I was pulling down the toilet paper in, you guessed it, a Macy’s ladies room stall.
Wow! That does sound like a crazy adventure in Macy's! Thank you for sharing your funny story!
The best decade 🕺 I miss it.
I’ll never forget every time my mom had to buy me jeans at Sears I always told her to get me the light colored blue bell bottom jeans cause every one at my high school were wearing them with the longer hair
Thank you for watching and telling us what kind you wanted!
The Parker winter coat was big ,and the starsky and hutch sweater. had to have that.
I bought my wood bottom, leather strapped top, clogs at Thom McCann in the Palm Beach Mall in 1973. I still have them.
At around the 8:00 mark I saw my 8th grade prom dress. It was the one on the right that was burnt orange in color. I borrowed it from a neighbor who did modeling in canada. Jumpsuits were a nightmare. I had one and never bought another!
Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories with fashion. That was quite a prom dress you had!
Wow!! Those outfits were so pretty, colorful, interesting, and well designed.
saddle bag purses
thick open-front wrap cardigan sweaters with sweater belts, in various prints (often southwestern designs)
Dittos jeans
Thank you for watching and sharing a few other items!
I had a lot of these things... wooden shoes, halters, mood rings, and jean jackets. I remember tying my unbuttoned shirt
This is one of the best videos you've made! I had so much fun reminiscing!! I'd love to see your take on the 90's style! :)
Thank you for watching and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video. I do plan on doing some other decades which includes the 90s.
Make one with 50s and 1960s clothes.
Leather watch bands and wide leather belts were also popular. I noticed vests and corduroy pants are making a comeback while walking through the mens wear section the other day.
I loved Bell Bottoms Jeans, wish they'd come back in style.
I eas happy when the 1980s fashion emerged.
I’m seeing this video for the first time a year or more later. As someone who was a teen in the ‘70s, I really loved it, but what really drew me to it was the thumbnail photo; those kids went to my high school, they were in my class !!!!!!!! I’m so amazed, I mean what are the chances ?!?!?!?!
Teen in the seventies best times ever! My wardrobe consisted of hip hugger bell bottoms, clogs, halter top, cutoff shorts, did I mention bell bottoms?? 😊
Thank you for watching and sharing some of what you had.
In the late 1960's there was even a "Paper dress". It was in fun colorful prints made of textured paper. Usually done as a sleeveless shift dress with a zipper in the back.. I'm not kidding!
Thank you for making this! It's wild to see how many of these styles were popular when I was a kid in the late 90s/early 00s -- do you have similar fashion videos/playlists for other decades? I'd love to watch them! Keep up the great work. Thanks Rhetty!
I do not have anything yet but I plan to. Thank you for watching Addison!
"It's wild to see how many of these styles were popular when I was a kid in the late 90s/early 00s" I was thinking the same thing! The Late 90's & 00's was *VERY* retro 60's & 70's and we didn't even realize it -- Some examples: Velour and embroidery was back in style... Suburban emo kids revived Beatles-hair, studded belts, Converse and checkered Vans shoes... Hip-hugger flare jeans and baggy bootcut jeans were the new bell bottoms... Lance Bass revived spikey hair with dyed tips... Britney Spears revived crop-tops at the peak of her career... Chest-stripe shirts and white pants were in style... Many black guys had a Caesar cut with 360 waves and a mobster-mustache like Motown artists, etc... I could go on forever listing things from the 60's & 70's that made a brief comeback.
After the movie, Easy Rider in 1969, the aviator glasses really hit it off. And, you forgot elephant pants. ;-) A great fashion staple of the 70’s.
I loved the 70's fashions. Mic jagger has the body of a little boy lol
I used to sell mood rings when I was a teen. $7 wholesale, $20+ retail. You forgot to mention the Super Fly look, which I also sold as a teen.
Thanks Rhetty!❤️

Every decade has its hits and misses but man the 70s had more than it's fair share 😂
Polyester leisure suits and jump suits...polyester everywhere😱
Bell-bottoms we're cool though. And peasant tops. I still dig the tube socks and wrap dresses
Thank you for watching and sharing what you liked. I liked the tube socks as well. Bellbottoms weren't so bad until they got tangled in your bike chain or something.
I was in elementary school in the 70s and at least where I lived it was cool to have a 3/4 sleeve t-shirt with your name on the back and some type picture you chose on the front. You could buy them at the mall.
Excellent video. I was a young adult then and wore every one of the female fashions shown. A doctor at the time told me that the wooden platform shoe/clog fashion was responsible for a spate of young women with twisted ankles hitting casualty departments. I can attest from personal experience that all forms of wooden footwear were hideously uncomfortable to wear.
This video has unfortunately left out the very significant invention in the 1970s of the midi skirt - whose skirt hem ended at the mid-calf. Not since pre-WWI had western societies seen such a long hemline. However, the A-line silhouette was a novel development which made this fashion feel new. The look may have originated with the revival of Country/Western/cowgirl/saddleskirt wear, and was the female equivalent of the '70s male "safari suit".
The extra-long and wide skirt hems demanded a considerable high heel in order to not look dowdy and frumpy ; so the midiskirt drove the platform shoe fashion, exactly the same as as the flared pant hem did. Platforms really only look good with longer and wider hems. Even today, they still look weird with a miniskirt or skinny/straight-leg/short-hem pants.
Great times!
I was only a child in the seventies I remember platform shoes clogs and flares good video
In the north we had knit ski caps with looooong tails we would wrap like scarves or stuff newspaper in like a dunce cap. Also lots of knee socks and tights to keep legs warm.
Everyone was so thin and fit
I loved the 70's!! ❤❤
Lord, I wouldn’t wear that jumpsuit in a kitchen near an open flame… WHOOSH!
I was born in the 70's, bring the 70's back ❤️

I loved the bell bottoms! We looked so cool because we could dress it up or down! Besides, Charlie's Angels wore them!!!
Oh I loved the 70s and I loved the Fashion and let’s not forget the fabulous Music .. we used to buy mens jeans as no womens jeans and we put them on and sat in a bath of cold water to shrink them to size lol ..was in Art collage doing fashion lol
Corduroys were everything.
They were huge! Thank you for watching!
I had a royal blue adidas track suit and matching royal blue suede adidas gazelles.....oh man!!!!
We didn't have a care in the world then. That's what life should be like when you're young.
Born in 1980, the 70s seems like a different world, meanwhile 2000 to 2023 everything looks the same except some gadgets like phone etc, people still wear the same fashion and haircut.
Ha!!! Trust me the 70’s were a different world and not in a very good way. 😁
It was definitely different in the 70s but it wasn't in a bad way. In the last couple years I have seen my daughters wear things from the 70s and the 80s which has been sort of weird. Especially the large bell bottoms. Thank you for watching!
