The official video is really good. His live concert performance with the Melbourne Symphany Orchestra is SPECTACULAR. Well worth checking out on your own time.
Hear Hear. John is one of the few acts the Live performance speaks more volume than any studio edit.
Also his live version of Help with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - absolute gold-class live performer.
John is 73 now, and is currently undergoing treatment for cancer of the mouth - right up until his surgery he was belting out his songs with the same power and clarity - LEGEND
Lennon said the the Beatles song Help belongs to Farnham because his version is so true to the original intent of the song as written by the Beatles

the un official Australian anthem. john is an Australian icon and all around nice guy.
John Farnham best played and shown live. One of the rare artists who is better live than in the studio.
Now you need to watch him sing this live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra , live he is full of energy. He covers so many different types of genre including opera.
This is not Just about wars, this is also about bullying, or pulling a gun on your neighbour, and standing up when we see either smaller or larger injustices. We are all effected whenever someone we know or love is treated terribly.
You see the music video and think man, the guy's voice is powerful, then you watch him sing the song live and get totally blown away. So much of John's music delivers great messages of the need for world peace and unity. And can do justice to just about any genre of Music.
Not only the best Australia has to offer but one best voices of all time.

Farnham has a 3+ octave belting range and vocal experts have put him on par with Steve Perry and Freddy Mercury. Queen approached John to be their lead man before anyone else was approached. You seriously ain’t seen nothin yet when it comes to the man’s vocal capability. What is most phenomenal is the power he has to belt out his upper tenor range in full chest voice without needing to use his falsetto. Yet he can still pull off the softest of ballads too. You’ll see he moves the microphone well away from his face to avoid distortion from his powerful voice! I’ve been watching your Elton stuff (I’m seeing him in Sydney in January- again!!) and I’m looking forward to more Aussie too.

@@leighandliam Queen obviously thought he was at least close as they asked him before anyone else to be their lead singer. He does have the same range as Freddie and both are tenors. John has also sung opera and Broadway. Anyway to each their own! Take care.

Control? You ain't seen nothing yet! John Farnham is an Australian legend who will take you through every genre with his ordinary Aussie bloke humour and sheer musical brilliance. He has sung with many world class singers but always preferred his farm and his family to the celebrity life. He is now 73 and is in the hearts of every Australian as he recovers from his surgery. He gave us over half a century of outstanding, perfect-pitch, passionate performances without fail. As everyone has said ... he is even better live because he can't sing a bad note. He has quite a few anthem-like songs that universally get the crowd going. Get well Farnsey! 💕
Anton, congratulations you've arrived! John Farnham is our National treasure, hailed as "The Voice", he is a singers' singer. Check out his live performances, you'll be blown away! His Melbourne Symphony Orchestra concert - You're the Voice, for your private comparison to this one you've just reacted to BUT make sure to check out his cover of the Beatles HELP at this concert. Amazing! Another favourite is his 2003 version of "When the War is Over" he is about 52 years old and his voice is beyond words. There are more recent videos of him in his 70s and he'd lost nothing. Sadly he has just undergone major cancer surgery where they have removed part of his jaw and we don't expect him to sing for us again but he has done enough. His body of work is phenomenonal and is second only to his personality and humanity. A true treasure!

No audio versions with one of the best male singers of all time. He is a 110 % live performer. Nothing else can do him just. I really hope for a full recovery and to see him back on stage again.
John Farnham's songs have various kinds of messages, sung in various ways, in a number different styles/genres, for the greater good of the world. He has a BIG vocal range and his voice is crisp, clear, powerful and perfect. John is a wonderful showman as he is electric, charismatic, friendly, including and appreciative of his audience, and the audience is with him all the way, as you will see in the LIVE videos where his Soul in service shines. Some songs with a message that I love are, 'See The Banners Fall' 'In Days To Come', 'That's Freedom', 'Age Of Reason', 'Beyond The Call', 'Pressure Down', and 'Help'. John Farnham is one of our Aussie Icon singers, this song came out when my son was born in 1986, I think it should be the song all over the world against Russia with this war against Ukraine.
Saw him sing this in 2020.. live.. (70+ yrs old now) - same key! He’s amazing. You should listen to his version of Help! He’s amazing… thanks for a great reaction.
You need to hear more of John Farnham's songs. He's Australia's favourite son and all of Australia is behind him as he recovers from mouth cancer. He had to have part of his jaw replaced. He may never be able to sing again.

An amazing song, but I have to agree that the live version with the Melbourne symphony orchestra is on a whole other level. The crowd's participation and John's feeding off their energy elevate this song to the sublime!
This video features footage from Vietnam War. The man in the kitchen scene was a current affairs presenter at the time the show was called “Hinch”. Fun fact one in three households owned a copy of this album that this song featured on called “Whispering Jack”. John Farnham started on a talent show, which he sung, “Sadie the Cleaning Lady” in the 1960s. Currently he has been diagnosed with cancer of the mouth, and fears he might never sing again. If can get a copy of “Whispering Jack” you will hear him at his best. One of Australia’s living treasures.

This song is very culturally significant to contemporary Australia even though it’s from the 80s. It’s just so positive!
Robbie Williams gave this song a crack last week at the AFL Grand Final (Australian Rules Football). He went okay but then the 100K crowd got involved and it gave me shivers.
Live with the Melbourne symphony orchestra in the early 90's is a huge must. This is our unofficial anthem and every Aussie from young to old know this song if you don't you're not Aussie. I'm so glad the rest of the world has now been introduced to this lovely, funny and fantastic artist. We've been lucky to be able to keep you selves since that late 60's. He has only just stopped singing at the age of 73 due to mouth cancer and he could still hold the notes. Get well soon farnsy the whole of Australia is thinking of you, you bloody legend x

I don't think this is specifically against war, although the images allow us to get into the right frame of reference for the song's message. It is about getting pushed around in general and standing up for yourself when you are in the right. Telling the government and others in power when they are wrong and what we won't stand for as Australians. Standing up for those who have no power in situations where they are being put upon, such as in domestic violence, bullying, harassment, etc. The song is representative of the Australian ideal of equality. This was definitely the right song at the right time sung by the right person, and I don't know any other Aussie who can't sing along with it. May God bless John with a speedy recovery from his surgery.
Wow, you are on an Aussie roll,…. this song came out in 80s and was featured on the Whispering Jack Album, the 2nd top selling album in Australian history at 24X platinum. Meatloaf ‘s Bat Out of Hell @ 1, 26X platinum. John is an icon in Australia and this song has evolved into very much an Australian anthem. Tragically, John is recovering from cancer and recent major jaw surgery, so everyone is praying for him. Australia’s Midnight Oil are more known for their protest albums. Tina Arena is another Australian artist who hit is very big around the same time as Savage Garden. Powerhouse voice with the soul of Aretha Franklin. Her Don’t Ask album sold 10x platinum.

This version is using Vietnam footage. Australia had a saying “All the way with LBJ” back then. John’s voice is really highlighted when he is singing live and accompanied by one instrument … a piano in his live performance of the Beatles song “Help” with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra where the orchestra would drop in and out and other times with just a guitar. “Your the Voice” is another anthem that has a message about guns and we are all sons and daughters of someone/looking down the barrel of a gun. His collaboration with Jimmy Barnes and Diesel on “When Something is Wrong With My Baby” is also a powerful performance. And John did a brilliant live performance with Jimmy of the Cold Chisel song “When the War is Over” is a must to listen to. John’s voice range is ridiculous. LIVE performances are the best.
