As a small person, and now 70, I have been having problems Wedging clay both with regard to achieving even consistency and eliminating air bubbles. I was pleased to watch a potter who is not a guy with big hands and significant strength. I even appreciated seeing the demonstration include measures to correct the shape when it began to vary from the desired block. I’m looking forward to trying the method as demonstrated.
This is my new favorite method! Like you, carpal tunnel, and unlike you, an old fart. I assembled a simple wire cutter using a couple pieces of 20mmx20mm Anodized Black Linear Rail Guide and PZRT 2020 Series Aluminum Profile Connector Set corner brackets which can be clamped down with your C-clamps. My first pass used the mud tools wire cutter hooked to the two open ends of the rails. Very handy.
Great video! If I am starting with only one clay body, nor fresh out of the bag, how long do I heed to do this for? Until there are no bubbles when I cut it in half?
Hello! I just tried this, a little bit, and it seemed to work just fine. I'm not that strong, plus I only had a piece of cloth to work on. I didn't find any air bubbles. Do you know if some clay already comes wedged? Thank you 🙂
Most clay that you buy from a pottery store won't have air bubbles in it. You will probably get away without wedging if you are using fresh clay from the bag, especially if it feels nice and soft. Wedging is important if you are reusing clay though. I hope that helps :)

Yes, just check for bubbles and once they are gone, you are good to go 🙂

Is that a plywood surface? Is it protected with a mineral oil or anything? What do you use for a wedging table and building table?
Hi there, it's actually MDF, and it isn't protected by anything. I clamp it to a solid table to wedge and build. Hope that helps :)
