Their full names and faces are put out for the world to see, and they watch people hope and pray that they're not the parent. Imagine being the child of one of these couples, then watching an episode 10 years later and seeing your father almost start crying upon finding out that you're his kid. Heartbreaking.

It was her grandpa. She witnessed him straight up dead with his body rotting. His eyes supposedly looked like olives. Yeah, I honestly thought that show was pretty disgusting, the way they poked fun at them for having an “abnormal” phobia … as if they needed any more horrors added to their mental state! I can certainly empathise, as I’ve been laughed at for being phobic of spiders (terrified to a point where physical contact with one actually makes me vomit & sometimes I get paralysed with fear at the sight of one). One of my mum’s exes found out about it & he decided to catch a small one & throw it at me. He laughed hysterically while I screamed, puked on the floor & cried for my mum (I’m autistic, so she’s the first person I seek when I feel threatened). My mum came running in, saw me having a meltdown & this A-hole still laughing at me … immediately, she yelled at him for scaring me, whilst helping me off the floor. She saw me swatting at my own hair & put 2+2 together, found the spider & actually threw it at my tormentor, then led me into the other room, cleaning me up with a kitchen towel. Once she’d calmed me down enough to sit there quietly, she immediately stormed back in the next room & again started yelling, by which point all laughter had ceased. It sounded like he tried to apologise, albeit a weak one, but my mum wasn’t having it. She sent him packing, because in her words “You disrespect my daughter; you’re disrespecting me”. If only more people could be as understanding about phobias as my mum… 🥺💔🤷♀️
I literally wanted to cry seeing those ladies scream in fear. Why would you want to do that to someone, it’s not gonna make it better is gonna make it worse. And everyone laughing at her was sick.
Honestly this is a awful show their forcing people out of their comfort zone, like the woman scared of olives she’s scared of them because when she found her parents dead at a young age their eyes look like olives so whenever she looks at olives it reminds her of her parents. You shouldn’t push people or force them to do something that they are scared or have a phobia it’s different from “getting over your fears”. (Edit: Holy- MOM IM FAMOUS)
right.... getting over fears should be private, not televised to millions, that could be extremely embarrassing just knowing people are laughing at you about something extremely traumatizing to you
for the lady who's scared of olives, I read somewhere that when she was young she saw her d3@d grandpa's eyes and they looked like olives, so now she's terrified of them. Pretty messed up of Maury to promise her that he didn't have any and then surprise her with them :/
it’s sickening that they do this to people and it makes their trauma even harder to deal with. Doesn’t matter what ur afraid of it’s a valid phobia that should b respected and hopefully treated by the right therapist
The worst part about the lady who was afraid of olives was that the woman knew she was afraid of it but still holds her down to prevent her from running, like she had a reason to be afraid of the olives but they still didn’t care.😢
This show horrifies me. I have Trypophobia and when im washing the dishes we have a pot that has that pattern and it makes my hairs stand up and gives me goosebumps its actually HORRIFYING if someone did that to me i would jump off the stage
I always thought Maury exploited people and especially children, but the fears segment actually made me mad like what gives him the right to psychologically abuse people like that? Yeah it seems like a stupid fear, but spiders also seem like a stupid fear to some people. Heights seem like a stupid fear to some people. The whole point of a phobia is that it’s not rational.
Exactly. I feel the same way, it’s disgusting how he exploits peoples worst fears and adds trauma. Even worse that’s he’s been getting away with it for decades now 😶
The fear of cotton balls is painfully real too. I'd rather stick my pinky finger in my ear than use a Q-tip myself and even when it's so windy I can't hear anything, I refuse to put cotton in my ears (yes I know I could damage my hearing not wearing them). Like something about the texture and sound of both cotton balls and styrofoam is just so bad it brings out the bad goosebumps.
This man is evil. We all have that one fear that seems silly, but it’s still a fear/phobia. The fact that he doesn’t even feel bad, he actually smiles and laughs. It's disturbing nonetheless :/
My therapist once explained that those fears may come from a larger trauma. Like one time a dude was scared of oranges to the point that even the smell of oranges made him sick. Turns out he was abused and neclected as a very small child and abandonned in a tray of oranges

Fears/Phobias are the worst thing to bully someone about. You literally can’t control what you fear. Like I have an unconscious fear of someone breaking into my house cause of an incident with the security system being set off by a broken window. The alarm is so loud, it freaking scared me awake at 3 in the morning. I was in my room, door locked, home alone-thinking someone done broke in. My mama gave me a handgun due to the amount of kidnappings, rapes, etc where we live. Even with that, knowing I have a high chance of getting out of these situations alive, the fear is still there. I’ve had nightmares since that night so I’m always just on edge when home alone. You can’t control fears, I have a literally weapon which should help elevate my fear but it is still there whether I like it or not.
SO evil. it may look stupid from the outside but you never know what somebody has been through, what happened that caused the fear. it’s so messed up to go shoving it in their face when you can tell they’re genuinely scared
She's afraid of olives after seeing her grandpa's dead eyes as a child after he passed. Olives remind her of that. You don't need a reason for your fear, but she has a really good one. His show would be better if he tried to find out why these people are afraid and if they can move past that fear. Instead he just makes grown adults piss themselves.
I have trypophobia and it doesn’t make me emotional but it does make me itch, a lot. Some times I get taunted with photos of what I’m scared of and I hate that, because they just don’t understand that I simply don’t like that. So while I don’t understand their level of fear I can relate to having a fear that, (I’m guessing) isn’t common, that most people won’t relate to.

Sally's fear of olives is from a very traumatic event. She was a little girl and was at her grandfather's funeral. If only more people could be as understanding about phobias as my mum… 🥺💔🤷♀️

the sad thing about that girl scared of olives is because The (green) olives reminded her of dead people's eyes. When she was 7, she saw her dead grandfather, and his eyes looked just like olives. :(

“why is she chasing her with cotton balls?”
a sentence i 98% believe courtney is the first one who said it.
Actually... Nop... My mother was chasing my sister cos she had some ear infection and she didn't want to put the cotton balls with whatever medecine in her ears. And when my dad saw them he asked this exact same question.... Yes really random, but just wanted to let the word know.

Just because YOU aren’t afraid of them doesn’t mean no one else is and making me feel like a child for my fears makes me side eye you heavily. Let’s stop phobia shaming ✊🏽😂 Seriously though, triggering someone’s fears for your amusement does more harm than good.
I feel you. I have an extreme fear of worms and maggots, and people tease me all the time for it.
I have a fear of spiders too . In 1st grade there was a box of toy insects and everybody knew i was terrified spiders .so this group of boys would put the spiders on me and tease me and stuff . U never heard anyone sream as loud in your life

Well this is a show that the government would allow cause they done care
Fr
Maybe the contract left some stuff out like them bring their fear out
Fears/Phobias are the worst thing to bully someone about.
"I feel like I'm watching her being tortured" that's basically what's happening tho. That was so evil oh my lord
I know like I have an extreme phobia and if someone ever did that to me, I would literally be traumatized for life-
SO evil. it may look stupid from the outside but you never know what somebody has been through, what happened that caused the fear. it’s so messed up to go shoving it in their face when you can tell they’re genuinely scared
@@-loonatheworld right that olive lady was bc she saw a relative die and their eyes looked like olives :( it’s so sad
I'm also trypophobic and I hate it everytime people say they don't see how holes can make someone uncomfortable and they sometimes send me or show me pictures out of the blues to see if I'm going to get triggered.
Maury is a creep. He wants views and money. Ugh.
@@jojomutunga957 It’s always so annoying when people just wanna see a weird reaction with a kind of phobia that someone has, it’s not funny. It’s really selfish because they *obviously* can’t understand “I’m scared of this”

After reading the comments and knowing why that one person is afraid of olives, seeing her reaction/combined with her screams of fear is so heartbreaking. Like she sounds like she’s being tortured!
Mental health professionals: "Confronting phobias in controlled situations constitutes safe exposure therapy for the sufferer to begin overcoming their irrational fears by processing trauma"
Maury: "Exposure therapy, huh? Got it. We'll further traumatize people by chasing them around with the items they have a phobia about as they run screaming in terror in front of a laughing live audience and broadcast it to millions of people."
confronting phobias and being chased by them are two different things. especially on live tv
so yeah he did take advantage of that
How therapeutic 😍
yea i was gonna say this is a pretty untherapeutic way to go about exposure or cbt therapy like this is just going to further traumatize people.

The lady who fears olives is actually afraid of them because they remind her of dead people's eyes. This makes it even more unfair for them to bring olives in front of her. Poor lady has a trauma has they were abusing it.
Yeah, even if someone's fear looks like it's nothing, nobody knows what someone's been through.
@TheDisturbedFrogArtist I have alot of fears that ppl have made fun of me for. N still make fun of me for 😕
I literally hate when people belittle you for having a fear. I got scared of a fly that got in the house and I couldn’t do anything because I was having such anxiety over just the idea of it getting close. I ran to someone else in the house and before helping me they say “why are you always scared of the smallest things” like bro?? Imagine being so scared of something that you will find often, it is so scary for me to see a big especially because so often they can get in your house. You literally cannot expect me to just stop being scared because it’s small or little. It’s a phobia and hurtful comments like that make it worse. Now I’m not only scared of bugs but scared of people shaming me for being scared of bugs. :/
Thanks now imA only see dead people eyes 🤣😭

My question is why tf do they go on the show knowing Thas what he does? Like surely they’ve seen it why are they voluntarily going on it?

i am deadly afraid of drums, imqscared of thunder, but drums to me are scarier. anytime i heard it i always jump a little, an in music class these girls noticed it and slammed the drums all at once while i was behind them. i had a pencil near my face and i jabbed it to my face and i started bleeding, THAT'S HOW SCARED I WAS. my friend joked about it alot but then they stopped because they realized it was wrong to joke about people's fears because it only makes then feel like shit
We have something in common except I stabbed a pen in my eye and it decided to explode, so now I got black ink in my eye(I NEVER went to the hospital, bad parents)
Sally's fear of olives is from a very traumatic event. She was a little girl and was at her grandfather's funeral. I guess they had him sitting up, and when she went up to say goodbye his eyes rolled open and looked directly at her. They looked like olives in his head and that's why she's so afraid of them.

Maury did an interview & said that his show is real, nothing is scripted. He said his guests really react that way. And that he picks stories that he finds unbelievable and that sometimes he’s just as surprised as the audience. I think he also said that they do the paternity testing for free
The free paternity test would explain the endless amount of guests. No one wants to pay for that lol
I don't actually believe that. All the people behave the same way, screaming, being unreasonable, running away, etc. Some of it must be scripted or at least they're being told how to talk, how to raise their voice and so on. I actually hated Maury bc he's only showing "typical assosiated ghetto behavior" which is absolutely not true. I'm togolaise and living in Germany, Maury is also known (by few people) in Germany and once I was asked if we really talk like that smh...

The audience laughing at this woman’s very real trauma while Maury straight up lies to her face that there are no olives feels very dystopian. Very Black Mirror, very much traumatising for the sake of traumatising.
Horrible fact: she saw one of her dead relative's decomposing eyes and it reminded her of olives...
Although some might think I’m being a little dramatic, this brought me to tears… Being afraid of cotton balls might sound stupid, but seeing the woman who was balling made me truly sad, especially with the audible laughter from the audience. And Sally, the woman who had a fear of olives, has a back story. Like Evil Hag said, “She saw the dead body of a family member and their decomposed eyeballs looked like olives and it traumatized her.” It was her grandfather. She was 7. This shouldn’t be something you make fun of. This is horrible. I just want to give those people a massive hug right now.
The woman who was afraid of cotton balls actually got ran over when she was little and she had a lot of casts on her body which were stuffed with cotton balls so seeing cotton balls brings back traumatic memories :(
