@@Emppu_T. on UA-cam? Mate....
I agree, I am in love with this now
Watching these evolve has kept me sane the last few weeks.
The way everyone pitches in to make this song soar to it's heights really reminds me of a crew working on a ship, doing just that
It definitely adds a sense of realism to it everyone bringing their own identity to it.
That would make a great scene.
This is a main purpose of shantys)))
That's exactly what shanties are lol
That's where SEA shanty's originated from
There HAS to be a reason why we all feel a connection to these old sea chants.
Yup you probably sang em not too long ago...
monkey brain likes easy and fun tune
My theory? Seller man is a song about undergoing long hardships and looking forward to the end of those trials. Last few years have been rough.
These songs were sung for hours and hours at a time to keep sailor's working at a steady even pace for generations so maybe it's something like how a fear of spiders was baked into us maybe since these songs were sung for so long and so often and they helped our ancestors survive it could have been baked into us
The first group humans where ever a part of was a tribe, the basis of all music is a beat, what is a sea shanty if not the crew's beat? What is a crew if not a tribe? I don't think anyone who is truely human will forget what it means to have a tribe.
That violin addition was magical.
That's Mia Asano - definitely worth checking out her other work. She's amazing.
Absolutely perfect playing, lovely melody
My favourite part of the song too!
@@tahdfrentzel6087Her work with Ally the Piper is also good.

I will sing these shanties with my mates in sea of thieves
Me and my mates will be singing this for sure
No worry man. Sea Shanty’s aren’t dying on our watch
I love sea shanties, chill-but-energetic genre, they're honestly catchy. I'm also happy we can take those songs and make our own, I think the guys that wrote the song learned proper sea shanties and then wrote one this one themselves.
Man, that violin, really gave me that sailor vibe, it just sounded so... Pirate themed.

The Weller Bros. was a Sydney Australia shore-whaling company that operated primarily along the southern coast of New Zealand from 1830 to 1840. Though they had numerous vessels in their employ, none appear to have been named the Billy o' Tea. Anyone under the employ of the Weller Bros. were referred to as a Wellerman, but in the specific context of the song the Wellerman takes on the meaning of a supply ship sent by the company.
A Billy is slang for a makeshift kettle used for boiling water to make tea.
Tonguing refers to the tonguers, the part of a shore whaling team responsible for butchering the whale after it had been caught. "tonguing" being the process of butchering the whale carcass into tongue shaped strips which consisted of the skin, flesh and blubber. And these "tongues" were boiled in huge pots to extract oil from whale blubber/fat since you can't fit an entire whale in a boiling pot!!
One piece of information that I couldn't find was how to stop listening to this on loop. Also, if y'all got hyped about whaling, do watch the movie, "In the Heart of the Sea". (Not related to Wellermen though)
I had wondered about the meaning, thank you for sharing!
i bet you google searched for a profile pic
Unlike Houseofmiro, I have not wondered about this, but as someone who loves history, this is a good read indeed.

"The song's lyrics describe a whaling ship called the "Billy o' Tea" and its hunt for a right whale. The song describes how the ship's crew hope for a "wellerman" (an employee of the Weller brothers, who owned ships that brought provisions to New Zealand whalers) to arrive and bring them supplies of luxuries, with the chorus stating "soon may the wellerman come, to bring us sugar and tea and rum." According to the song's listing on the website New Zealand Folk Song, "the workers at these bay-whaling stations (shore whalers) were not paid wages, they were paid in slops (ready made clothing), spirits and tobacco." In the whaling industry in 19th-century New Zealand, the Weller brothers owned ships that would sell provisions to whaling boats. The chorus continues with the crew singing of their hope that "one day when the tonguin' is done we'll take our leave and go". "Tonguing" in this context refers to the practice of cutting strips of whale blubber to render into oil. Subsequent verses detail the captain's determination to bring in the whale in question, even as time passes and multiple whaling boats are lost in the struggle. In the last verse, the narrator describes how the Billy o' Tea is still locked in an ongoing struggle with the whale, with the wellerman making a "regular call" to encourage the captain and crew."

The talent, the beat....THE CAT. This thing has it all. I'm not able, it actually makes me a bit emotional but I cant explain why!
this cat is the star🤣🤣
It's the message of the song that penetrates through the music for me. It's about whaling in the 1800s and follows a very real organization that dominated trade in New Zealand. Thinking of it with that context grounds the music as something that some sailors just kinda made up to pass the time and somehow it got to us, like a direct connection to the past. The phrase "soon may the wellerman come" brings bittersweet emotions from me knowing that the wellerman shall never again come.
Sea shanties man...they get to ya sometimes. Just like good old British military ones. And a lot of other European ones for a matter of fact.
Seeing people come together to do something wholesome and genuine in these times also makes me emotional lol

For people who do not understand, this song is about whaling, and the ship the Wellerman. the Wellerman was a supply ship, that went across the oceans selling supplies to ships. It was owned by Two brothers that had immigrated from New Zealand. They started this in 1833. They did this because whaling was a popular job. While whaling you were also out from sea for a long period of time. therefore, they needed provisions.

@@frankjuggaloheathen1035 Ahahaha reminds me of a comment I saw on Tay Zonday’s Chocolate Rain video.
“Chocolate Rain, puberty hit this boy like a train”
@@frankjuggaloheathen1035 Brilliant comment, I spewed coffee all over my phone 👍
I know right my voice was way deeper than I thought and it’s so raspy and deep my throat bleeds a little when a talk a lot
That bass vocal gets me every time. Brilliant.
Just wow. What an amazing remix. Awesome.
I'm not the first one to say this, not by far:
Sailors were stuck at sea for months at a time, sea shanties were made to boost crew morale and spirits. The reason why it's popping back up I'd because we are almost in the same boat, no pun intended. Instead of being stuck on a boat we are all stick inside. Sea shanties the way of the future.
I strongly agree and love this direction for us 💪
Let’s hope it stays strong
Shanties were primarily working songs at first, the term Shanty was believed to have derived from the word Chanty, a chant to keep the crew in time when hauling ropes or turning the Capstain etc. later came the forecastle Ballads sung by the crew when off duty , these were also sung in the pubs when ashore where they were also combined with the bar room ballads. The army also had their own similar songs, as did the miners etc. They became very Popular songs at the time. So you see, "Pop" songs are nothing new.
@Zelith Fang
That analogy hit the spot
There's this miners song from big bang theory , it's dope too
I like that
Not even months. These whalers which this sea shanty is about went for YEARS. Many of them lost at sea and back home no one knew.
*Of course, what's good music without that head bouncing cat.*
Can't stand that cat.
@@hollieduckett9160 *I love him.*
I know!!! love that cat
We had this video in a music lesson and then the cat appears and we laughed and we can't stop laughing
It was so funny
Btw. Maybe my english is bad i am swiss
It's *-The Epic Cat-*
This is beautiful. Legit brought tears to my eyes
WOW! This colab is unbelievable. It's one of the most accomplished songs I've ever heard. The final result has so many layers. Few musicians even try to do something complex. You and all the people in this video are amazing!
When we get to go clubbing again this is gonna fucking bang
That would be 1.25 play speed.
@@brennenfitzgerald Just tested it. You are 100% right lol
Considering the context of the song I 100% assumed you meant when we get back to clubbing seals
This song is playing on a permanent loop in my head ... LOVE IT!!!
you and me both.
Same
Literally
I believe that it's ingrained into our DNA. I immediately felt a great connection with it the first time I heard it. I feel like I used to sing it all the time though I've never even heard of it until recently. Weird AF...
Great job! Love this remix.
Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. Not to be missed. Brilliant
You did a brilliant job as usual
I sent my dad this he’s in the US navy He actually got some of his friends on the ship he’s on to sing this!
That's awesome!
@Tenzin Choesang ?
Are you adopted? Serious question, no insult
Wow that's amazing!
@@want2bfrst75 your question doesnt make sense tho, there is nothing that could even indicate a small bit that hes adopted
