Wonderful work! Can't even tell on the face side that there was a problem. Thank you for these very clear directions! I have a pair of jeans that need this exact repair and now I know how to do it!
OMG Thank you SOOOO much. I needed this so much as I am trying to fix a pair of jeans for a friend. This is wonderful and so very concise. Looking forward to all of your other videos! :-)
Another question: The pockets I am trying to fix has a tear all the way down one side of the pocket. Can I use this same method and patch the hole and the tear at the same time?
Sure, just remove more of the pocket to have a larger area to work on. Unfortunatelly, bigger tears will be more visible as a final result, so I would go for a nicely matching thread.
I also want to ask a question: I have a really good machine: A Viking Husqvarna Opal 690Q. It is supposed to sew through just about anything. I'm having a problem with thicker (Denim) fabric. I have a large needle in there. Do you think it's my foot?
If the needle is right, it might also be the thread. You need a thicker thread and the thread must be the same in the bobbin. Try to set the stitch length to less stitches per inch, this usually helps, too.
So.. one of my kids ripped the back pocket of their jeans. Not the seams, or the underlying material, but actually the middle of the "pocket" part on the pocket vertically. I'm trying to figure out (as a newbie) how to fix that.. Edit: or at least make it look decent. I don't think there will be a way to hide that they got hung up on the door stop because the rip is much too big for that, but maybe there's a creative way to make them look good?? because the pants fit perfectly otherwise, and there is nothing wrong with them except for that back pocket. The rip is only through the one layer of the back pocket, not the pant itself... I've considered replacing the pocket, or putting a different type of cloth underneath the torn part to show through? I'm a total newbie when it comes to showing though, and figured maybe someone has better ideas? On the upside, I'm a little ocd and able to do simple tiny stitches really evenly.. so while I don't know how to use a sowing machine, I could probably make something stitched look passable .. Suggestions anyone?
I am trying to figure out how to do jeans torn in same places, but there is a big metal rivet instead of bar tack, not sure what to do. The rivet makes it impossible to get close with sewing machine
Those repairs will last. Great work, and teaching.
Married guy who just fixed his first pair of jeans himself here! Thanks to you. This was awesome! Thankyou!
Really well done...never even considered removing the the pocket, darning and sewing the pocket back in place. Brilliant, I'll give it a try
I was looking for a video exactly like this. Thank you so much for work and effort. xoxo
You are the BEST! Thank you for the instructions. I followed them and my article turned out GREAT!

Thank you ma'am. I know plenty of basics but always looking to learn more. I just wish I had a sewing machine. Would make it so much easier

super impressive 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💯
I am new to sewing and even newer to mending things. What type of thread are you using for this repair?
Very good video.
Thanks
Good job I like it
I have a ripped robe around the pockets at one of the edges near the opening.

@@SewingForALiving Thank you for responding!!
Time to dig out my holey Jeans! Thank you
Your back and forth stitching, is that done with the feed dogs down, as in free motion quilting?
No, I don't put the feed dogs down but you might if you prefer.
What you do if u only have a tiny whole ? Like a needle size ?
The same as if there is a small hole, the fabric is probably worn off enough around the hole to spread.

I use cutting pliers to remove the rivets and then sew the bartack over the hole that is left from the rivet.
Thanq 👌
