  • The Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) Program helps small businesses in urban and rural communities gain preferential access to federal procurement opportunities. The mission is to promote job growth, and capital investment to small businesses located in these economically distressed communities. The HUBZone program fuels small business growth in historically underutilized business zones with a goal of awarding at least three percent (3%) of federal contract dollars to HUBZone-certified companies each year. SBA has made it easier for qualified small businesses to participate in the HUBZone program.
Join the Alaska Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) and the US Small Business Administration (SBA) for this free webinar to see how the HUBZone program can benefit your business. During this webinar we will provide overview of the program, including the new changes, explain the eligibility criteria in detail, discuss the benefits to be derived from HUBZone Certification, and how to apply.

Not sure if someone will see this or looks at these considering this video was recorded about a year ago. However, I'm just seeing if anyone knows or has heard of someone being Hubzone certified, if the business is located in a hubzone and the owner, only employee, sole person running everything, does not reside in a hubzone. My apartment, where I only sleep, is not in a hubzone, but my business is and I'm here 90% of the day. Does that mean I can't be a certified hubzone business due to my home address? Thanks is anyone sees this:)

Hi - I just got certified. The rule is that 35% of the company’s employees must live in Hubzone. So if you’re a one-person company, you would have to also live within the zone.

You can download the Hubzone document requirements to see if you qualify.

@@laviolist Hi, thank you for the response. Yes, I know all the requirements. However, If the sole owner who runs the entire business shouldn't have to be living in a hubzone. My particular location has now exploded with luxury living and are considered a hubzone. I basically live at my shop, in a hubzone, however I can't afford to hire anyone just yet, and unless I move into my shop, which may very well have to happen because of the increasing costs of my location and trying to cover bills, I can't be hubzone certified. This is how the rich get richer. The requirements need to be considered on a case by case. I now have a competing franchise next door to me and can pay someone in the luxury apartment next door and be considered a hubzone, where this franchise doesn't even have staff. However, they have the means to pay the people next door, living in luxury money just so they will check off the 35%.
