I'm an IT guy and after an update I restart the car. When I came from 12.5.4 to 12.6.1 I did a camera recalibration and it helped but that version still gave me issues driving around town. But when I recently got 12.6.3 it was a complete 180. It's acting almost like a mini 13.2.x. I really like it and I'm more confident in using it.

    Thank you for fixing my.
And yes of course I Subscribed and hit the liked button.
Old comment I posted on your last video that doesn’t apply any move.
(I have Intel HW3. It is golden on the freeway/highway but lost all confidence in town. It’s bad.
today it even turned into oncoming traffic. Triple stops at stop sings or just stops in the middle of the intersections. I am continually pressing the accelerator.
My wife won’t use it anymore in town).

I have not had the chance to try it out yet. But I will try it as is to see if the initial experience is similar to your first video, then do the recalibration if necessary.

I did the same thing a few days ago. I cleaned the areas on all my cameras. Did the 2 button reset, and recalibrated the cameras. I made a big difference. I was getting hesitation and stopping long before a turn and it was scary. Now no hesitation and it works great. I agree with your assessment.

  • @SH-in1qz

I confirmed. I just finished the recalibration and did a test drive. It seemed to improve a lot. For those who did the recalibration and did not have major changes, maybe follow Tesla's recalibration instructions. I cleaned all my cameras, did majority of the recalibration on highway and drove in the middle lane most of the time.
For speed issues, this version still allows you to adjust your speed using the right scroll button. In addition, it will allow you to ask FSD to change lane on the highway when you believe it is better to switch a lane. The previous version doesn't allow this. FSD controlled all the lane changes itself on the highway. This is what I have been wanting. It still gives me some ability to direct FSD which lane is better at what situations. I don't do this a lot, but I now have the ability to ask FSD to do so. Going back to speed control, I found it is very useful that this version gives us back the ability to adjust the speed using the scroll while driving. This is quite useful as sometimes FSD doesn't adjust to speed limit change (e.g. from 90km to 80km and still driving at 90km), I can then manually adjust it to the proper speed.
Entering and exiting highways are very smooth now. My setting is chill and 0% offset. On the chill mode, it will still change lane if it finds the front car is driving too slow, whereas the 12.5.4.2 would just follow the slow car and stayed on the right lane most of the time. I found chill mode is working fine for me already. You can still ask it to change lane to pass a slow car and it will automatically change back once it passed the slow car.

I have 2020 Model S long range (portrait video screen). The 12.5 has been HORRENDOUS. Almost unsafe by coming to almost complete stops at green light intersections. Constant brake tapping, to point of making me nauseous.
12.6.3 just got sent to my car last night. After reading so many reviews, I've been dreading that nothing was fixed. I'm going to test without calibration, then calibrate, then test again to try to confirm if there was a change also for me and will report back here. Thanks for your videos!
I just want my FSD back from last summer and before. It always drove perfectly. I hate when companies "update" things and make them worse. All too common these days.

I was debating getting the new Y because of the HW3 limitations, however will hold off now that you have discovered this calibration trick. Elon should tweet about this as their are a lot of HW 3 owners and he has stated he is not giving us a retrofit for HW4.

It's not coincidence. 12.6.3 was day and night better for me after recalibration. Even though it appeared to fix a litany of problems, I was still wondering if I just had some kind of crazy good luck, until I got home. The acid test that removed any doubt was that I have a 1/4-mile shared driveway. Previous FSD versions would take me home up the shared drive, turning into my individual driveway and stop in front of my garage. As soon as I got 12.6.1, it would no longer navigate the driveway - it would roll a few feet and stop. I would goose the accelerator and it would do the same. That problem remained on 12.6.3. After recalibration, it drove me up the shared drive and all the way to my house.

I have a Model Y and have only used FSD during free trials so far, but I have been favorably impressed with it. Even my wife, who is a constant critic of HSD (husband self driving), loves FSD and is now ready for her own Tesla. I used it to drive 200 miles from my home to the beach on all types of roads, with traffic, and only had to take the wheel once due to phantom braking, apparently because of deep shadows on an open two lane road with no other traffic. I have also used it in the city with good results. My gripes are similar to yours, speed control has been an issue with it going faster than both the limit and my 5mph over comfort level in the city, and 10mph on highways. I think one reason for this is that it does favor matching traffic speed over following the limit, but it rarely goes faster than other cars around it, which you want if you are not strictly obeying the posted speed. Another observation is that it sometimes waits until the last minute to move into an exit or turning lane, though it always seems to do so safely and without being obnoxious. I rate it better here than most human drivers. If I drove more often, I would have signed up for the subscription version of FSD by now, based on how much I like it.
