great job in fishing the floating spinaker spot on out of the sea ... fantastic fiming from above, always the right angle on the scene!!!! nothing could have be done better in a movie

Boat 181 entered the zone clear astern and inside the others who were overlapped among themselves, although he was leeward when he gained overlap right beside the mark. Despite having no mark room rights, he managed to sneak inside of boat 275 when they delayed their turn. If 275 had rounded more quickly they might have caused a collision and a possible rule 14 foul even though they had mark room rights. Then when they all made the gybe in unison, 181 came out the winner, stealing wind from those below. I wonder what a 2017 rules appeal would decide if 275 were to have called a foul on 181 for barging into that space.

Great Video! Lots of crazy action and trouble in this year's regatta.
The blue spi semmed to be best placed to tack this mark, this was before the spi SNAFU.

yeah, as wipe-outs go it could have been much much worse.
Where is the wipe out?
Why on earth didn’t one of the outside boats slow down when getting close to the mark and cut across the rear of the inside boats and try to establish an overlap? if that didn’t work, at least you’d be able to do a proper race mark rounding and gain upwind race distance on the boats that would’ve inevitably made a bad mark rounding.

Did they just forget at some point that they dropped their spinnaker into the sea and notice that a few seconds later when the boat did a 180 degree turn by itself.

I once ran over the spinnaker and had it wrap around the keel under the water.

@sail59115 Ha, no but we should start doing that like in reality TV shows. I'll pay you $20 for a close duck, $50 for a jybe right in front of another boat and $500 for a complete wipe out!!
