the best friend i ever had when he passed he peed in the kitchen went to the bedroom lied down and died at the age of 13, he took my heart with him its 6 months and i still get weepy , westies are so wonderful an angel incarnate, God bless my Angus
My westie is called Angus as well. He is nearly 7 years. He is my 1st westie. Lovely dogs. Absolutely amazing and such a great puppy. I hope things get better for you……. I can’t begin to imagine……
Mine just passed at 14. They are independent, brave, peace keeping, affectionate and loyal dogs that are exceptionally unique. But they are also fraught with many genetic health issues that require lots of managing, especially as they age. I strongly recommend pet health insurance if you do choose this breed. But they are such a joy overall.
Ours was diagnosed with diabetes at about 5 or 6, so he had to have insulin injections before every meal and had to adjust the dose every now and then.
Carla, outstanding comment. My Westie just passed at age 15. For the 1st 11 years, there were no issues whatsoever, but after 11, I cannot begin to tell you the thousands of dollars I spent on his health care. I'm convinced that the good Lord makes Westies as cute as they are so that you can deal with the healthcare money flying out of your wallet!😁
We lost our westie Tallulah Star at 16 and a half. Tommorow will be our 1 year anniversary. She loved good restaurants, beach bars, adventures. She travelled all over Europe, went through 4 passports. Charmed bavarian vesper riding gangs, cross old French ladies, village bullys ( Wookey if your reading this you know who you are!) She was amazing, smart, tough, resilient utterly charming & totally loved! We miss you Tallulah! Xxxxx
A westie was my first dog and while I'd definitely change some things I have nothing but incredible memories. I hope to get another some day as they are amazing! Great video and very accurate! I'd also add that many Westies can make friends with other species of animals as well so if you have lots of pets they probably will fit right in.
My westie he passed in November he had everything that’s was common with a westie wrong with him but I tell you I made his life as comfortable as I could for him he was my best friend when I had to put him to sleep it was like losing an arm miss him so much would I get another westie hell yeah they are such loving friends if you have a young kid get a westie pup trust me I’m 49 years a westie owner I was 8 when I got my first westie your kids will love them
My Westie, Tommy, died at 16 a few hours ago. He would have lived longer, but... cancer... he had a removal surgery and two months later there was another tumor and it increased in size so rapidly... Eventually I will get another Westie, I only have good memories of him and I'll love him forever, and I can't imagine myself owning any other breed. Only PROs from me.
First of all, let me say how sincerely sorry I am that you lost Tommy! I know how devastating that is, as I just lost my Westie 3 weeks ago. It has left me shattered, but I will rebuild my life without him and eventually get another dog. He too, had cancer, and he had tumor removal surgery. CT scan showed no other cancer in the body, yet 2 months later, he got a huge tumor in the spine, and it seemed like the cancer raced all throughout his body. I wonder if, in giving them the surgeries, hastened their demise because of the exposure to oxygen? I guess we'll never know. I hope you get that Westie because I think I'm going to get another 1 or 2 as well. Take care, and I hope you are doing better.🙂
My little Westie Joey passed away on my sister's birthday we had him for 13 years and he was the best boy we've ever had and I'll always miss him and he did love life to the most with that sparkle in his eye he always had a skip in his step as well whenever we took him out on walk it's actually really good with small animals he bathes quick friends with the rabbits while he was still around and he helped out the cats when they're kittens never harming them he also kept the chicken safe when he was still around and when we still had chickens
Other than walking your Westie daily, sit in the shade, drink beer and toss him a ball. Just be careful he doesn’t over do it, especially in the heat. I’m on my second Westie and neither one has dug. Westies are especially fun and affectionate little dogs.
my 2nd westie recently died aged almost 11 of cancer of the spleen she was the most placid little one going loved my young grandchildren she would walk every day for miles always told me when it was bed time lol she was never a barker ,never chased squirrels only when very young she used to play with my daughter's pet rabbit never had any other health issues only that very last day she died did we find out she had cancer of her spleen she was my shadow and always wanted to be close to me she was brilliant off lead and hardly never wore one in her whole life she really was a sweet girl who never caused me any concern around other dogs I miss my beautiful girl every day 😢😢💔
My parents took in a passed family member's westie. Old man had an old dog and all they ever did was sit in the house and play ball. The dog will play ball all day and will bark if you decide you're done before him, and also is kind of a terror with how he'll try to take on any animal, including a *goddamn horse*
By the way, Westies can be trained to minimize their barking. I trained my Westie so well by simply saying "no bark!!" in a very firm, stern voice whenever he was barking. It took him a little bit of time, but eventually caught on that "no bark!!" meant to pipe down. I trained him with lots of training treats. The only time that he would ever bark is if he had to go outside to go potty or if there was a stranger around that he heard.
Très intelligent ...adorable ..gentil avec un fort caractère . Une bouille craquante .💓 Un sacré terrier ! Polisson et fûté . Je craque pour le Westy ....j'en suis à mon 2ème et je l'adore !💞💞🐾🐾
With a Westie, you'll never go to the bathroom in peace again. But you'll always be entertained. My Zoey (just turned 16) loves kids, loves food, has separation anxiety, forces her love on people (even my grandmother loved her, and Grandma wasn't crazy about dogs) and other animals, gets extremely jealous if our neighbor is paying attention to another dog, and is basically a community celebrity.
I worked at a vet office and there were some issues with allergies for Westies, leading to skin and chronic digestive problems. Can be challenging to find a compatible diet.
As a Westie owner, I can say the answer to diet is 100% raw species appropriate food. Our first Westie was on cortizone to treat his skin conditions but it got worse and worse until I was desparate to find the solution as it getting really bad (red oozing skin with the hair falling out) and he wasn't even 2 years old. After feeding raw for six weeks the problem was solved completely. I've had three Westies now, all raw fed and zero skin problems. Raw feeding is a little controversial in some vet circles, but fortunately all the vets I've been to have been supportive. I do have some definite ideas what the problem is with packaged foods.
My cousin in cali has had a Westie for about 7 years now his name is Winston however he does get aggressive sort of easily if touched a lot but other than that he seemed pretty chill the last time I saw him so I really feel it would be cool to have this type of dog like my cousin has because if I were to bring him or her he or she would get to have a little play date with Winston but of course that would depend if a hotel would allow dogs and of course if he or she would be able to come me or someone I know would have to keep the two westies behaviors in check because it’s important they don’t become aggressive with each other
Sheding is not minimal if you feed various inaproriate food.. and when sick, its probably first sign for my westie-she starts to shed when something is wrong with health. And avtivity: I have two: one is super active, other one, royal lady enjoying slow life:))
I'm currently dog sitting a Westie...a 1 yr old puppy. Outside is a challenge. There is an opposum under the deck and this little guy is barking, digging, clawing up the ground to get to it. Highly fixated on it and prey driven. There has been very little training and i am not a dog owner. Sweet fella...but it's a challenge for sure. Not sure what to do!
Is it true that westies bark a lot when playing? My friend has one and the westie barks very loud while playing with another dog and she said it is typical behaviour of the breed.
I have one. He thinks he is bigger than he is. Barks all the time. Hates all people. Refuses to walk to the end of the road and is absolutely by no means affectionate to us.

I want a puppy 🥺
You can get one, ya know?
@@blossomheartxo How?
What do you mean how? You can get a dog from the pet shop.
It’s easy as pie, I guess.
The good thing about owning a Westie is you never have to be sad or lonely ever again!
I would think they'd be great therapy dogs, such a sunny disposition, seemingly empathetic

There are no cons about having a Westie. I have raised Westies for many years. It’s all about how you train them. ❤️💜
I agree completely!! Ours is a needy guy but I wouldn't trade him for anything. He is sweet, loving and a generally sweet boy.
I dunno, my Westie always started the fight with larger dogs, so my Labrador had to come in and break it up every time.
There are cons to ANY pet. Change your perspective.
I have a westie but it din't Really teach not to run away and sometimes it runned away and i needed to run to him and get it home
So the relative need for training may be a con for some?
My Westie just passed a couple days ago at the age of 17. Miss her so much.

We have a Westie and we are very lucky that he has none of the genetic health issues that they are prone to. He is 13 now.
Ours was diagnosed with diabetes at about 5 or 6, so he had to have insulin injections before every meal and had to adjust the dose every now and then.

Our family Westy has had to have knee surgeries on both knees. It's like he's an elite football player...

Interesting hy looks like the Schotie terriërs which is mainly black. I’m impressed they beautiful!
Westies are the best. No cons in that breed, are the best friends forever

Is not prone to weight gain. It’s the owners that are prone to over feeding them or giving them rubbish food. Lovely dogs.

The dog will play ball all day and will bark if you decide you're done before him, and also is kind of a terror with how he'll try to take on any animal, including a *goddamn horse*
true. it has balls like pitbull. it's not just "small cute dog".
Beautiful companion dogs had them for 20 years❤️🌿❤️🌿❤️
Westies are beautiful dogs. Probably not the best for young children but loyal, kind and loving.
By the way, Westies can be trained to minimize their barking. I trained my Westie so well by simply saying "no bark!!" in a very firm, stern voice whenever he was barking. Learned so much about the Terrier Breed. Very informative
They are not prone to weight gain. It depends on what they are fed and how much.

They actually don't mind being alone
💖💖💖They definitely make great pets!
So what you're saying is that a Westie will transform an inactive owner into an active one? :-)
Can do....depends how much of a lazy slob you are I guess
A JRT cross made me go down to 95kg from 105kg in 2 months of daily walks with no diet.
So... yeah. If you want.
@@b9904 That's excellent. I lost 7 kg in four months without a dog. Imagine if I had one! :-)
@@danmar007 yup. I never expected it too. Usually, 1kg a week is pretty good. .5kg is normal.
Sorry but there are only pro‘s! 🙌🧡 #westiebestie

My westie boy Buddy barks at everything.
The only problem I have with my Westie is she is allergic to everything even cats
I have one. He thinks he is bigger than he is. Barks all the time. Hates all people. Refuses to walk to the end of the road and is absolutely by no means affectionate to us.
How is beagle? Does it has health issues?
you should do a Ibizan Hound
Half this is bull shit I have a westie 10 years and I don't brush daily wash every week and she's still going this shit is bollox
There are no cons of having dogs period
Still looking for a breeder😭
Its tough eh? I remember when finding a Westie breeder, a newborn puppy used to cost around $700. Now it's $3000 crazy
you should do a Puggle
There are no cons!!!!
60% shouldn't and 100% should!
Cons - they eventually die
Pros - everything else
