2 things: so apparently I forgot a certain enemy, being the special red guard soldier who has a ton of health and posture along with unique moves. I'm sorry for missing him, if I were to place him on the list he'd probably come in at number 5 or 6. Also, I am now aware that you can defeat the infested seekers by using the mortal blade, as many of you have brought that to my attention.
That's the Red Guard equivalent to the Ashina Generals; you can find one near the moat, dueling an Ashina General, and one near where you fight the Red Guard Drunkard miniboss (whose name I forget) on the path down towards the Headless.
You forgot the tutorial mini boss enemy that appears near the lake in Ashina that has a headless in it. If i am correct, he appears twice near that lake, and both of them you can sneak kill him easily.
@@dunadwin Actually, those guys have a super similar moveset to the Ashina generals, except I think they’re a bit less aggressive, they also even have the same voices, so I didn’t include them
The reason that the Okami with Katanas have the combo that resembles Genichiro's is because it's the same combo - Geni learned it from an exiled Okami (Lady Tomoe)
I finished this game for like 7 times and i never saw that resemblance ever. Good to see im still learning small details despite the fact the game is 4 years old. Thank you
Sekiro has the best common enemies ever. The fact that some of these enemies have more complex movesets than actual bosses is really cool. The Red Guard, Okami, Interioir Ministry Ninjas... this game is so damn fun.
It's really too bad it didn't get any sort of dlc despite being one of Fromsoft's best games to ever come out. A dlc centered around Ashina's history through the use of the Buddha statue would've been a great idea. Seeing Isshen and Orangutan at their prime alongside Tomoe would of been awesome!
I know right, even compared to the other souls games it feels like it was a game specifically catered towards having a DLC, with Ashina having cool history, but just unexplored enough
100% agree on the Generals at number 1. They were the first enemy in the game to give me that feeling that i was actually in a sword fight. I also just started Elden Ring and picked the Samurai class and in honor of this masterpiece of a game i called him 'General Tenzen'.
The Ashina Generals and the Interior Ministry ninjas are my favorite enemies in the game. The Generals are a great learning tool early on in the game, they were super tough on my first playthrough but I eventually got better at them and now I always do Doujun’s quest so I can fight red eyed Jinzaemon who has the generals moveset but in a beefed up version which is pretty fun.
note that they are using nodachi 野太刀 its a longer version of sword that is more suited for field war instead of one on one sparing so yup, lore wise they are at disadvantage of fighting you
I also love how they are bosses at first and become normal enemies by the end, tho general tenzen and the one at ashina castle actually have different movesets from the one that you encounter first at the outskirts, and that is shown by their red vest of robe around them
Fun Fact about the Black and White Spear Monks: Depending on the RNG, sometimes they'll use a sweep to trick you and use a thrust right as soon as you jump in the air. If you deflect the thrust, their posture gets broken instantaneously.
@@abrahamrangel2326 actually, it'll only triggering when you jump "forward", means they only do it when you press w or push the stick forward with jump. Try to jump without direction, you won't find him try to thrust you in the air
@@liaogregor4047I noticed that trend because when I first started the game and learned about sweeps, I instinctively jumped away from them. So I never saw the monks use the stab after a sweep. But when I learned about the stomp and started to break the habit so I could counter sweeps with the stomp, I get jumpscared by the monks all of a sudden stabbing me out of the air. And then I felt like a god when I tried deflecting the thrust instead of going for the stomp and instantly shattering their posture.
I think one of the most flawless ways to make you feel like a badass in videogames is when the enemies that you are fighting and eventually managing to defeat are actually badass and not pushovers. Being able to stand your ground with them. From Software nails that better than most action game companies.
The infested monks are killable, you need to have the mortal blade and its a unique animation, cool video anyways, you could do this for every souls game honestly
Atmosphere was good, as was the weapon & spell & armour variety. The enemies and the locations sucked the joy out of experiencing those, though. @@void6237
Idk if anyone knows this but when enfeebled you can actually still swing, and you can stun lock the blue palace nobles until you can get a deathblow. That deathblow when enfeebled is interested because you end up eating their necks or whatever and somehow regain your youth. It's interesting
That sounds super cool and now you've made me want to try it. I've done at least 8 playthroughs of the game to get the achievements on two accounts and I'm still learning all sorts of amazing stuff. I don't think I'll ever stop loving this game.
I think the lizards should have gotten some points since using bestowal on them can give you poison or lifesteal sword buffs. Also, the infested enemies can be permanently killed with the mortal blade and give a heft amount of exp.
The interior ministry ninjas(the purple ones) are some of the best enemies I've fought in any game, putting aside the fact that you constantly get put in the nearest wall the moment they pull off the big boy 4 hit combo move, they have an amazing range of moves and really gets you to understand how to cancel attacks into a block or parry, because they do it too
I like how the techniques in the game used by wolf and enemies are traced back to their teachers and signify associations between characters and locations. Ichimonji from the Ashina clan and Isshin High monk and senpou kicks as seen connecting the Interior ministry ninja to Senpou Temple and Mt. Kongo Floating passage, learned from the Pot Noble Harunaga in Hirata Estates, is used by Genichiro and the Okami clan I also suspect that Sabimaru (rustblade) has connections to the use of poison by the Loneshadows (Particularly Masanaga) and the ministry rats. The Sabimaru connection is a little more obscure, but basically the Ministry Ninja have conflict with the Snake Eyes clan, who are said to be descendants of Okami (of which poison was used against). The Ministry Vilehands who use poison blades are found in Mibu (past Snake eyes, on the way to O'rin, Corrupted Monk, and the entrance to the Fountainhead) and at the entrance to Sunken valley (lone shadow Masanaga). It seems, late game, that the Ministry sought either to access or block off the Sunken valley (resting place of the serpent and its viscera), either to procure means to end the cycle of immortality or utilize it. The info broker Fujioka, who is aligned with the ministry, has information memos on both Sabimaru and the sunken valley apparation O'rin. The Nightjar reversal skills are used by the Nightjar, notably less obscure. Owl uses whirlwind slash, shadow rush, and a few other abilities he clearly taught to Sekiro. The Martial arts used by Lady Butterfly and the Ministry Ninja are quite similar, with both being found at Hirata estate and both having association with Owl. A few of the lone shadows use senpou sugars and drop grave wax, associated with Senpou and their practice of the Occult. Blackhat badger sells the anti air deathblow scroll and likewise hates nightjar shinobi, who the anti air deathblow is useful against. Although not directly about technique, I think it's worth noting that many of the key ending items for removing immortality from Ashina (the serpent viscera and the White lotus) are found in the sunken valley, which is guarded by the Snake-Eyes clan. Likewise the ministry ninja have techniques to use against the Snake-eyes.
“The nightjar reversal skills are used by the nightjar, notably less obscure” 🤣 But FR I love the logic and reasoning that they don’t straight up tell you, but with a bit of research you can piece it together, and honestly, I expect no less depth from a fromsoft game at this point, they’re such chads
The attention to detail in this game is so nice. I remember being at Senpou Temple and then seeing some monks using Ungo's Sugar (which is made in Senpou Temple as the item description for it states), it was the first time I actually starting paying attention to these little details.
I'm surprised you didn't mention that the little centipede guys that crawl around and throw fire are entirely trivialized by the fact that a simple jump attack opens them up to an execution. They're basically one hit and done for all of them in the game.
I completely agree with your ranking of the katana okami warriors. Their floaty, almost jubilant fighting style, interesting designs and amazing battle theme make them a joy to fight. Fromsoft nailed fountainhead entirely, and the okami make it truly memorable. On a side note, I also love their distinctive battle cries and laughter as they land blows. Clearly they find killing mortals alot of fun
I also like their idle animations, which feel so lively. They are not just standing still but dancing in front of admirers, which give depth to their lore
I think this video does a really good job of showing off how much fun fighting just regular enemies in this game can be. I love bloodborne but one of my gripes with that game is that a lot of the time, different enemies dont feel very, well, different. Theyre all countered in about the same ways and feel pretty samey at times, but this game has lots of fun and unique ones!
I love going into combat with one very good enemy, but I think sekiro falls a bit short in the group fight aspect. The combat just does not feel tailored to deal with multiple lone shadow swordsmen.
True, I feel it’s all because of the stealth machanic, it feels like sometimes they really expect it to be a major aspect and other times you kinda forget about it, so enemy placements are kind of inconsistent
Most of the time ganks are pretty boring because combat just amounts to kiting and trying to pick off enemies one by one. But on a few rare occasions something just clicks and you tear apart a gank while barely getting hit which is one of the best feelings in sekiro.
I think there is one singular red guard that is different from any other in the game. He's in front of the note that warns you about the Headless in Ashina Outskirts after the bridge gets rebuilt and the castle is on fire. He looks a lot like the riflemen but is actually different and beefier.
@@chadofastora There are two others, one outside demon of hatred and one in a secluded area outside ashina castle. They're personally my favorite enemies in the game since they mix the best aspects of the standard red guard and the samurai. Also I believe the one outside demon of hatred can use a rocket launcher if you get too far so that's really cool.
Yeah, and also there are only like three in the game so I think they should have been a miniboss and just called it the "ministry elite guards" or something, considering that the red guards had no minibosses I think those guys were fitting to be minibosses.
This is actually my first time seeing the Okami's full movesets since I usually just trivialize them with Sabimaru, and damn, those moves are just juicy. I get that every enemy has a weakness, but man, they really went overboard and made them a joke if you use Sabimaru.
I would like to point out that immortals can be killed if you got the Mortal Blade. A second deathblow marker appears once they’re down the first time. It’s also one of the reasons they remain still for so long when the first deathblow happens.
15:03 the reason why there’s a torch dude placed is because they can burn the high grass. The same goes for the archers with fire arrows. (You can see the burned down grass also at 18:05 ) 23:05 when fighting the bell dude you will shortly notice that you deal less dmg than against other enemies. You can prevent this with using the speer prostethic. If you use the speer right after it hits the bell dude it pulls the chest plate right of his chest and now you deal the normal dmg you would do on other enemies. (You can see Astora doing what I just mentioned only in a different way at 21:00 ) My opinion of this video: I liked the video very much. I can say that I share many thoughts about the enemies as a mainly sekiro player. I also hope that I could give some help with my comment with some things i mentioned. Thank you for reading to the end and have a great day week month whatever you like
Finally someone appreciates how good sekiro enemies are, btw here are some neat things about some enemies The centipedes are treated as crawling enemies meaning that you can just jump over the fire and instantly kill them with a jump deathblow You can kill centipede monks with mortal blade getting an unique deathblow animation About the sunken valley clan members with the scatter shot cannons, for some reason if you do a double jump on these guys while they roll you interrupt them from shooting and they get posture damage with the sound effect like if you jumped over a swipe attack The medic npc that ends in the end of its quest with red eyes has the moveset of a normal sempou monk but with the addition of an instant counter attack after deflecting you The lone shadows might be monks, this only a personal theory. Their model is like the one used for monks and the combination of kicks and sword fighting are more likely to be the perfection of the high monk skill, even the animation they do to stand back up after not engaging to do the swipe kick is the same wolf uses if you only do the first kick All of the red guard guys are vulnerable to fire like most of enemies, but they are the only normal enemy in the game that doesnt have a panic animation trying to extinguish the flames when they get burned The taro troops with hammers have all the same moveset, but the attack they do after getting damaged enough is different, the ones with the iron club do a long wind up baseball hit and the ones with the wooden mallet go berserk doing fast hits with one swipe attack between them making it very difficult to counter, at least for me. By the way if you break the shield of the taro troop wielding it you cant apply the puppeter ninjutsu on him The taro troops with bell are the only normal enemies with a grab attack that ignores the umbrella shield protection There is an unique okami on top of the rooftops of the area, if you face her she will use both bow and sword mixing her attacks and shots, is a very subtle difference but is appreciated The monk with spear might be my favourite enemy, is so complete and has it all, single attacks stopped by a single deflect, flurry attacks that end with a thrust attack, a grab thrust attack, one swipe attack and is good at dodging projectiles.... But on top of that lets add that the last monk you see in the game (the one you can spy) is different from the rest because there is only another one like him (on the memory of hirata state)... What is so different about them? Well they have the same moveset and all but when they do the swipe attack you have to time your jump because if you dare to jump before the kanji dissappears they suddenly cancel their attack and do a thrust attack while you are on the air launching you away, its so good how this takes you by surprise and what is better is that if you jump and deflect their counter thrust you do a MASSIVE amount of posture damage that is going to break their posture, so this is the only enemy that rewards the player for ever doing a jump deflection and that sells it for me Some endgame enemies step back if you jump towards them not letting you engage with a jump attack Thanks if you read everything, here is a fun fact: You face 5 spear adepts, 3 white monkeys and 3 interior ministry generals through the whole game, those guys are even more toughth and rare than some other minibosses but they are only normal enemies optional to face
Fun fact: There are two variations of the bow Okami warriors. One that is purely bow based, very fragile, and can die in a few hits. Then there’s the rarer kind that has health comparable to the sword Okami warriors that will switch to their sword through a lunging stab, especially if they get some damage and posture built up. Also agree on the fact the Fountainhead battle theme is one of the best tracks in the game and I think it is one of the most underrated FromSoft tracks.
I saw only one of those, just on top of the roof in the Great Carp feeding grounds. The others were just bow users, or maybe I just kill them before they draw their katanas.
The shame I felt dying to the white dual wielding katana monkey in the valley was… immeasurable 😢 I was like “ohhh lol cute look at this guy, don’t even want to kill him” and then he absolutely destroyed me with his weird moves
If you are enfeebled by a palace Nobel you can actually recover by killing and eating a palace nobel. You need to dodge them when they attack and then counterattack. As long as no other enemy is around it is pretty doable. It is a pretty neat mechanic because it is used well.
The infested monks are actually killable once you get the mortal blade! I think that they were meant to show you how to finish off reviving enemies (pretty much just them and the giant ape, I guess. That mechanic could have stood to be more fleshed out in the late game). If you return to the main hall from the inner sanctum, they'd be right in your way. It's just that they also added a idol in the inner sanctum. Without that, you fight these guys, can't kill them, get the sword, and immediately fight one, and suddenly you *can* kill them.
I love the Ashina Generals. I feel so bad that Fromsoft made their damage weak against other enemies though. I wanted to see Ashina Generals kicking the Red Guard's ass.
@@chadofastoraI think that was the point for story reasons since the interior ministry is built up as this unstoppable force that can only be slowed and since sekiro has already weakened the Ashina by killing Gyoubo and driving off Genichiro, their only effective leader as well as the death of Isshin, means they are done for and won't survive
You forgot to mention that the lizards have a unique interaction with bestowel ninjutsu, as it grants you a poison version of it, and the blade becomes green. this interaction is the same with bloodsmoke ninjutsu. It is gernerally pretty useless, I wish there would have been more interactions like that, would have helped if the lizards were placed in more relevant places.
Fun fact about the gank fight with the Ashina miniboss and gunmen: If you grapple up onto the roof of the main castle just above them, you can pick each one off with Shurikens and they won't aggro on you. Made it a cakewalk
Watching this video and seeing the movesets of some of these enemies makes me realise how little I fought mobs in Sekiro. You run so fast in the game that I didn't even bother learning to fight anything other than mini(bosses
One thing the Okami Battle theme has for going for it, is it´s jumpscare quality, everytime it starts playing it´s just such a sudden and unexpetedly powerful beginning
You missed one of the red guard variants, the one that shows up in the ashina outskirts near the first headless(I think there is also one in front of the castle after returning from fountainhead). Probably one of my favorite move sets in the game.
Honestly they should have been the minibosses for the red guards and named "ministry elite" or something especially considering that there is only 3 in the game and the red guards have no minibosses which is unfortunate
You can anti air deathblow those glaive monks that fly around. Also chained ogre becomes a lesser enemy at the end of the game where you reach Demon of Hatred's idol. So you can include him too.
4:37 a note for he test subject's grab attack, like almost every other fromsoft title, you can massively reduce the time you're being grabbed by quickly alternating L1 and R1 presses, this usually has the player character resist by shoving the enemy off of them, as wolf does so as well. ive found that if you start spamming at the very beginning of the grab, you can sometimes fully prevent taking any damage whatsoever
"...this one rooftop section, which basically just forces you to use stealth." Me, sprinting past everything in plain sight, arrgoing every single warrior, and then grappling up into a window: "sTeLtH"
some details not mentioned. centipedes are one shot kills if you jump. when you jump you get an execution prompt regardless of their hp or stance status. immortal enemies like the infested seekers can be killed with the Fushigiri. once you deliver the deathblow normally, you get an extra prompt to execute them with the Fushigiri (once you have it).
I strongly disagree with gecko placement. Bestowal ninjutsu allows you to coat your sword with blood of your enemies. You can jump in the air and deathblow geckos to use it on them. Gecko blood is poisonous, so instead of the normal Bestowal effect, your sword can now poisons enemies. Blood of white geckos gives you life-steal. Bloodsmoke of white geckos creates healing mist. Bloodsmoke of normal geckos creates poisonous mist. And you claim crickets are better desgined!
All of those are very interesting, it would be even more interesting if it had any usability at all during the game. They're so poorly placed throughout Ashina that there's almost no opportunity to take advantage of these mechanics
I Agree That Geckos Have Some Really Cool Mechanics, But Their Placement Is What Brings Them Down For Me, Imagine If They Were Placed Right Next To A Mini Boss With A Group Of Enemies Or Against A Certain Boss That Blocks You From Healing.... Like Just Any Placement Near Something Significant Would Really Bump Them Up !
a very good video! kinda forgot it was half an hour long until i actually reached the end. i realized that there were a lot of interesting enemies i inadvertently missed (even six playthroughs in) because i couldn't be bothered to fight them in my rush to advance the story. the sound wolf makes when the bell catches him that i never heard made me lose it for a good minute or so!
I didn’t see it in the video, and I haven’t seen anyone mention it in the comments, but you CAN anti-air deathblow the Spear Adepts. And I’m surprised you didn’t mention that the geckos and the centipedes have instant deathblows when Wolf jumps. All in all, awesome list though! Sekiro is my favorite FromSoft game, so it always make me smile to see it get the love it deserves. 😊
I'd honestly argue that the blue palace nobles and sunken valley clan with rifles are top ten enemies in the game because while their movesets aren't outstanding their placement singlehandedly makes entire sections of the game more fun and memorable. I would say moveset is second in importance to how the enemies are actually utilized.
I would say that both moveset and placement are equal in importance and not one above the other, because while placement is important, if the moveset isn't developed well for that placement then the enemies purpose is lost and they won't be as memorable
@@YEY0806 The thing is though that their move set is developed for their location in the sense that by having one really long range attack the sunken valley clan rifles make an entire area much more memorable and fun. Having a super good move set isn't required when they're utilized to be enjoyable with a single move
nice vid. learned a bit about some enemies movesets that I didn't really pick up over 5+ playthroughs... like the sitting infested munk dudes having a grab attack and the rifle monkeys blowing their rifle up
The reason why Genichiro sword combo resembles Okami warriors is because his teacher, lady Tomoe, was emulating that dancing like fightsyle and taught it to Genichiro. Great vid.
This single video has just made me start a new save file on Sekiro. That has never happened before. The way he approaches every single enemy while he is playing, trying to figure out their design language alongside their move set, is really intriguing.
Follow up. I've started a new save file and played 4 hours straight, done pretty well up until I found the purple ninja in the Hirata estate. I hit a brick wall and decided to leave him for another day. Ogre was incredibly easy to defeat so were the 2 generals (one right before, the other right after the chained ogre)
I've never managed to one on one duel a lot of the enemies you chose as best. I either get crowded or stealth blow all of them. I'll have to go back and fight them again.
0:03 "Well, there are a lot actually 🤓" - I mean this constructively intros are important. I would have clicked off, if this wasn't Sekiro lmk if you want expansion, but you didn't ask nd I cba
15:05 lore reason. They were hired by the temple to sack hirata. The temple was always betraying Ashina, as the ministry ninjas use HIGH MONK the secret technique of Senpou
The taro troops were always my favorite to use the puppeteer ninjutsu on, since they're so beefy, they can actually be a good distraction and dish out decent damage on the groups of enemies they're in.
one more thing about the normal centipedes, if you press jump in their face, you can actually do a falling deathblow on them 100% of the time, which just makes them effectively die faster than oneshotting (because oneshotting still makes you deathblow or leave them to die for a few seconds)
Sekiro’s combat and enemy variety is incredible. It honestly boggled my mind when a game like GOW2018 got so much praise when it’s clear Santa Monica put zero effort in the enemy designs. There’s like 5 different enemies in that game.
When you were talking about the Ashina fencers you mentioned that they fight similarly to Isshin's first faze, that's completely intentional, i remember reading a note in the game that says Isshin will randomly come into the Dojo to keep the students on their toes or something similar to that, which means Isshin atleast partially trained them
The Ashina fencers are my personal favorite, because those are the enemies that made me “get” Sekiro. Prior to that I had just pretty much been button mashing R1 to kill everything, the fencers forced me to slow down and be deliberate with my attacks
Love this video. I can watch Soulsborne ranking videos all day, but never have I seen a ranking of enemies, and I am totally here for it. Please do bloodborne enemies next! Subscribed and waiting
It definitely won’t be my next video, but Bloodborne would probably be next since the only other one that I really want to do is Elden Ring, but you know…
I'd add to the crickets thing: if you don't kill them, it slightly messes with your enemy lock on, making taking out the big guy a tiny bit more annoying.
one thing about the red guard with rifles is that there is actually one that would be walking while shouting and on fire in the section with the idol that takes you to flames of hatred, it is really easy to miss since he usually dies to the burn before most players can clear the orge and other guys in the area that triggers the event. I only noticed him like a few days ago while i was playing with mods💀
I remember accidentally falling into the river in Hirata Estate and finding the pagoda with the ministry ninja. The fact that he used so many kicks completely broke my brain (I thought this was a game about sword fights?). I honestly didn’t feel like I was a match for them until lategame, where they’re normal enemies
also with the centipedes, they become completely trivial once you learn that you can instakill them with a jumping deathblow! makes that one cave section a breeze
I know I'm late to the party (still on my first Sekiro playthrough right now) but with the Bell-wielding Taro troop, when he does the consecutive grabs you can do side dashes followed by counterattacks and it is *super* satisfying!
I wanna list some of the things I think should've been mentioned in the details of the enemies that could've altered their ranking (I'm doing all this from memory) : 1. The geckos can be actually used for amplifying your weapon, by executing them (and as far as i remember, you use a ninjitsu on them) 2. Infested seekers (non parasite) do have another ability that SUMMONS crickets as well 3. The centipedes are really no trouble to deal with in the slightest, you just need to either jump on them or be above them and you always have a guaranteed insta-kill 4. Monkeys get really agitated when using the whistle, for example using the whistle near them will cause nearby monkeys to attack one another 5. I wanna add the fact that senpou monks use their candies in order to receive an edge in combat, which is good detail for the lore of the game Overall this is pretty minor in comparison to the entire list and the list itself is probably mostly oriented on certain opinions, but these little factors could mean something to someone (like the positioning of the crickets and geckos)
what a beautiful presentation. Great stuff. Inspired me to go back and finish the most angsty game for me (never had the nerves to get past the monk illusion in mibu village)
I don't know if you forgot to mention it or just don't know, but the spear adepts have 1 insane jumping move that you can use anti air deathblow on which looks completely insane. Just surprised it didn't get mentioned.
Genichio's master was Tomoe who was an Okami warrior. If you ever noticed, Genichiro never really used the "Ashina" style moveset like those Samurai and Isshin. He uses Floating passage and bow like like Okami warriors (also lightning).
One thing i recently realized about ashina soliders is that their entire design is made to teach you to deflect. Even the fact that you can take them out by just spamming sword swings on them, because a new player might realize that the soliders are so weak because they don't deflect, making them reflect (haha get it) on their own fighting style
I think the reason there are bandits at senpou is just because they paid them to guard the place, since the monks with glaives are also hired mercs form a different temple
The thing about the gekkos, is that they have this unique feature. When you use bloodsmoke ninjutsu on an enemy, as the name suggests it creates a smoke of blood for you to hide in, which is red in color, But if you use it on a Green gekko it creates a green smokescreen which poisons any enemy in it. Really cool stuff. White gekkos created white smoke which actually heal our health.Apart from it being cool there is very little application to it because gekkos are placed in mostly isolated areas where they are the only mobs in majority of cases. i like them because of this mechanic though. Really cool.
Fun fact about the centipedes. You can jump at them to do an instant deathblow, even when they are aggroed on you. It makes dealing with the constant fire attack very fun, since if your timing is right, you jump over their throw to instantly deathblow them
One thing. Certain grabs in sekiro can be mashed out of to reduce the time they hold you for, example being the test subjects and the lady with the knife at mibu village.
2 things: so apparently I forgot a certain enemy, being the special red guard soldier who has a ton of health and posture along with unique moves. I'm sorry for missing him, if I were to place him on the list he'd probably come in at number 5 or 6. so yup, lore wise they are at disadvantage of fighting you
Plus I love their comically intense battle cries. It's so memorable.
Its not a rng thing really, it only happens if you jump before they start the attack, there are only two monks that do this and i love it
@@abrahamrangel2326 actually, it'll only triggering when you jump "forward", means they only do it when you press w or push the stick forward with jump.
He'll hate DS2 enemies. Nit because they gang up on you. But because they are actually lame.
@@MasatakaEbina I think DS 2 is overall lame
Atmosphere was good, as was the weapon & spell & armour variety. The enemies and the locations sucked the joy out of experiencing those, though. @@void6237
Good lord imagine how long an Elden Ring ranking would be lmao
Ds2 haters, smh
Idk if anyone knows this but when enfeebled you can actually still swing, and you can stun lock the blue palace nobles until you can get a deathblow. That deathblow when enfeebled is interested because you end up eating their necks or whatever and somehow regain your youth. It's interesting
That sounds super cool and now you've made me want to try it. I've done at least 8 playthroughs of the game to get the achievements on two accounts and I'm still learning all sorts of amazing stuff. I don't think I'll ever stop loving this game.
I actually did that on accident once and it's as cool as it sounds lol
I think the lizards should have gotten some points since using bestowal on them can give you poison or lifesteal sword buffs. Also, the infested enemies can be permanently killed with the mortal blade and give a heft amount of exp.
Issue with the geckos is that most of them aren't in a location where their Bestowal effects will be very useful.
Gecko 🦎 > cricket 🦗
I love making my sword green 😁
Bloodsmoke will also make a poisonous cloud
This!!
@@Ashlevon true, but that's cooler
The interior ministry ninjas(the purple ones) are some of the best enemies I've fought in any game, putting aside the fact that you constantly get put in the nearest wall the moment they pull off the big boy 4 hit combo move, they have an amazing range of moves and really gets you to understand how to cancel attacks into a block or parry, because they do it too
I like how the techniques in the game used by wolf and enemies are traced back to their teachers and signify associations between characters and locations.
Ichimonji from the Ashina clan and Isshin
High monk and senpou kicks as seen connecting the Interior ministry ninja to Senpou Temple and Mt. Kongo
Floating passage, learned from the Pot Noble Harunaga in Hirata Estates, is used by Genichiro and the Okami clan
I also suspect that Sabimaru (rustblade) has connections to the use of poison by the Loneshadows (Particularly Masanaga) and the ministry rats.
“The nightjar reversal skills are used by the nightjar, notably less obscure” 🤣
But FR I love the logic and reasoning that they don’t straight up tell you, but with a bit of research you can piece it together, and honestly, I expect no less depth from a fromsoft game at this point, they’re such chads
Don't forget owl also taught Wolf to Mikiri counter, as the game kindly reminds her if we dare thrusting at him...
@@benjaminthibieroz4155i went crazy when i first saw him get me with a Mikiri counter, one of the coolest things ever
What a good comment. Thanks man.
I was looking for a comment that said this😂
He did
@@duece5542 no he didn't, rewatch the video.
@@lucasbeck1391 dam i probably was thinking about the walkthrough I watched
I love Bloodborne sooo much, and I totally agree, the Old hunters are fantastic enemies but a lot of the others can feel samey
But on a few rare occasions something just clicks and you tear apart a gank while barely getting hit which is one of the best feelings in sekiro.
ingame, you are supposed to be a shinobi, essentially an assassin.
To be fair, I can't imagine to make group combat fun. In reality it's already an insane mess you can hardly prepare to.
Fighting that lone shadow boss with his homie was really ass.
The ninja are hard enought now putting one with two heal bars is insane.
I think there is one singular red guard that is different from any other in the game. He's in front of the note that warns you about the Headless in Ashina Outskirts after the bridge gets rebuilt and the castle is on fire. He looks a lot like the riflemen but is actually different and beefier.
You’re right, you’re the third comment who mentioned it, so I just went there and yep, this guy is awesome and I forgot him
@@chadofastora There are two others, one outside demon of hatred and one in a secluded area outside ashina castle. They're personally my favorite enemies in the game since they mix the best aspects of the standard red guard and the samurai. Also I believe the one outside demon of hatred can use a rocket launcher if you get too far so that's really cool.
Yeah I guess they are the leaders, like Ashina heavy armored samurai
@@underplague6344 There's also another one where he's fighting an Ashina General down the stairs of the castle.
(You can see the burned down grass also at 18:05 )
23:05 when fighting the bell dude you will shortly notice that you deal less dmg than against other enemies. You can prevent this with using the speer prostethic. If you use the speer right after it hits the bell dude it pulls the chest plate right of his chest and now you deal the normal dmg you would do on other enemies. (You can see Astora doing what I just mentioned only in a different way at 21:00 )
My opinion of this video: I liked the video very much. I can say that I share many thoughts about the enemies as a mainly sekiro player. I also hope that I could give some help with my comment with some things i mentioned. Thank you for reading to the end and have a great day week month whatever you like
Finally someone appreciates how good sekiro enemies are, btw here are some neat things about some enemies
The centipedes are treated as crawling enemies meaning that you can just jump over the fire and instantly kill them with a jump deathblow
You can kill centipede monks with mortal blade getting an unique deathblow animation
About the sunken valley clan members with the scatter shot cannons, for some reason if you do a double jump on these guys while they roll you interrupt them from shooting and they get posture damage with the sound effect like if you jumped over a swipe attack
The medic npc that ends in the end of its quest with red eyes has the moveset of a normal sempou monk but with the addition of an instant counter attack after deflecting you
The lone shadows might be monks, this only a personal theory. Their model is like the one used for monks and the combination of kicks and sword fighting are more likely to be the perfection of the high monk skill, even the animation they do to stand back up after not engaging to do the swipe kick is the same wolf uses if you only do the first kick
All of the red guard guys are vulnerable to fire like most of enemies, but they are the only normal enemy in the game that doesnt have a panic animation trying to extinguish the flames when they get burned
The taro troops with hammers have all the same moveset, but the attack they do after getting damaged enough is different, the ones with the iron club do a long wind up baseball hit and the ones with the wooden mallet go berserk doing fast hits with one swipe attack between them making it very difficult to counter, at least for me. By the way if you break the shield of the taro troop wielding it you cant apply the puppeter ninjutsu on him
The taro troops with bell are the only normal enemies with a grab attack that ignores the umbrella shield protection
There is an unique okami on top of the rooftops of the area, if you face her she will use both bow and sword mixing her attacks and shots, is a very subtle difference but is appreciated
The monk with spear might be my favourite enemy, is so complete and has it all, single attacks stopped by a single deflect, flurry attacks that end with a thrust attack, a grab thrust attack, one swipe attack and is good at dodging projectiles.... But on top of that lets add that the last monk you see in the game (the one you can spy) is different from the rest because there is only another one like him (on the memory of hirata state)... What is so different about them? Well they have the same moveset and all but when they do the swipe attack you have to time your jump because if you dare to jump before the kanji dissappears they suddenly cancel their attack and do a thrust attack while you are on the air launching you away, its so good how this takes you by surprise and what is better is that if you jump and deflect their counter thrust you do a MASSIVE amount of posture damage that is going to break their posture, so this is the only enemy that rewards the player for ever doing a jump deflection and that sells it for me
Some endgame enemies step back if you jump towards them not letting you engage with a jump attack
Thanks if you read everything, here is a fun fact:
You face 5 spear adepts, 3 white monkeys and 3 interior ministry generals through the whole game, those guys are even more toughth and rare than some other minibosses but they are only normal enemies optional to face
Ikr, you’d think it wouldn’t be a one sided battle at least once
@@chadofastoraI think that was the point for story reasons since the interior ministry is built up as this unstoppable force that can only be slowed and since sekiro has already weakened the Ashina by killing Gyoubo and driving off Genichiro, their only effective leader as well as the death of Isshin, means they are done for and won't survive
all generals movesets scratch that itch in my brain i cant get enough of it
You forgot to mention that the lizards have a unique interaction with bestowel ninjutsu, as it grants you a poison version of it, and the blade becomes green. this interaction is the same with bloodsmoke ninjutsu. It is gernerally pretty useless, I wish there would have been more interactions like that, would have helped if the lizards were placed in more relevant places.
I 100% agree on your take on the gun fort enemies. They are so much fun to fight. This game has so many great enemies.
Nice list btw.
Thanks, also nice pfp, Yamato is such a chad lass
@@chadofastora Thanks man, just coming from your Elden Ring top 10, i'm really liking what i watched so far. Keep it up! 👍
Fun fact about the gank fight with the Ashina miniboss and gunmen: If you grapple up onto the roof of the main castle just above them, you can pick each one off with Shurikens and they won't aggro on you. Made it a cakewalk
Nice to know
I love this sort of thing! Bosses get so much love and analysis, I’m always curious about the lowly and humble basic enemies!
please keep making these videos, i love hearing people's thoughts and critiques on game design. also enemy design is super underappreciated!
This video was put together really well, id love to see more top ten lists or boss reviews
Watching this video and seeing the movesets of some of these enemies makes me realise how little I fought mobs in Sekiro. You run so fast in the game that I didn't even bother learning to fight anything other than mini(bosses
I'm surprised you didn't put in the Red Guard generals. Those guys are nuts.
I didn’t know what you were talking about at first, but it turns out there was just an enemy I didn’t know about , I just fought him he is awesome

One thing the Okami Battle theme has for going for it, is it´s jumpscare quality, everytime it starts playing
it´s just such a sudden and unexpetedly powerful beginning
You missed one of the red guard variants, the one that shows up in the ashina outskirts near the first headless(I think there is also one in front of the castle after returning from fountainhead). Probably one of my favorite move sets in the game.
Yep, I forgot him, I just fought him and he’s really fun, my bad
oh that guy... absolute madlad
Honestly they should have been the minibosses for the red guards and named "ministry elite" or something especially considering that there is only 3 in the game and the red guards have no minibosses which is unfortunate
Got my Sekiro Platinum trophy not to long ago. God, I love this game. Great video! it was a nice walk down memory lane.
"...this one rooftop section, which basically just forces you to use stealth."
Me, sprinting past everything in plain sight, arrgoing every single warrior, and then grappling up into a window: "sTeLtH"
I think he means if you’re trying to clear them all out
some details not mentioned. centipedes are one shot kills if you jump. when you jump you get an execution prompt regardless of their hp or stance status. immortal enemies like the infested seekers can be killed with the Fushigiri. once you deliver the deathblow normally, you get an extra prompt to execute them with the Fushigiri (once you have it).
Really good usage
Holy shit 4 playthroughs in and I’ve never heard this
All of those are very interesting, it would be even more interesting if it had any usability at all during the game.
But thats what my piercing sabimaru is for
Shotgun dudes better be high, they're sick as hell. The roll into shot is hilarious
The Immortal Seekers can be permanently killed with a second deathblow after you get the Mortal Blade.
a very good video! kinda forgot it was half an hour long until i actually reached the end. i realized that there were a lot of interesting enemies i inadvertently missed (even six playthroughs in) because i couldn't be bothered to fight them in my rush to advance the story. the sound wolf makes when the bell catches him that i never heard made me lose it for a good minute or so!
WOOO guy should be 1st place, he aint really hard but getting clapped by such a hood certified classic is just gold
Nice video! If only the red palace nobles had the same power as the mist noble…. They would be the hardest enemies in the game
I reckon 50% more players would’ve never finished the game
Thanks for using isshin's ost, it's so underrated
Great vid.
I was so relieved when I realized the only perilous attacks from the Ashina duellists were thrusts 😅
29:02 so... You like to get dominated by then
This single video has just made me start a new save file on Sekiro.
Understandable, like I said I don’t think I ever beat the spear adept straight up on my first playthrough either
18:07 cool little detail is that the burning ticket burns the grass that it touches.
0:03 "Well, there are a lot actually 🤓" - I mean this constructively intros are important. I would have clicked off, if this wasn't Sekiro lmk if you want expansion, but you didn't ask nd I cba
this is not an english essay bruh hop off 💀💀
wtf are you tryna say bruh
discord and redditor final boss
This was fun to watch. Rank Nioh2 enemies now :)
Btw, I don't think I've even seen the enemies that come out of walls. Time to replay this.
Bro I haven't gotten to the okami warriors yet, but the interior ministry ninjas are absolutely incredible
Fun fact about the Blue Nobles, if you manage to attack them while in the enfeebled state you do a VERY special deathblow animation.
I do love the Ashina generals too, man they look and feel so "real", chunky movement but sometimes fast combos and great design
one more thing about the normal centipedes, if you press jump in their face, you can actually do a falling deathblow on them 100% of the time, which just makes them effectively die faster than oneshotting (because oneshotting still makes you deathblow or leave them to die for a few seconds)
Honestly I was a spear adept hater and you have converted me to just being sad about their placement. Great video.
Sekiro’s combat and enemy variety is incredible. It honestly boggled my mind when a game like GOW2018 got so much praise when it’s clear Santa Monica put zero effort in the enemy designs. There’s like 5 different enemies in that game.
You know the games goated when 37/48 enemies are fun to fight and engage with.
I honestly didn’t feel like I was a match for them until lategame, where they’re normal enemies
you should definitely upload more, i really enjoy your videos :)
also with the centipedes, they become completely trivial once you learn that you can instakill them with a jumping deathblow! makes that one cave section a breeze
Something to know. Fighting the infested monks AFTER getting the mortal blade allows you to do an additional deathblow to finally kill them
I know I'm late to the party (still on my first Sekiro playthrough right now) but with the Bell-wielding Taro troop, when he does the consecutive grabs you can do side dashes followed by counterattacks and it is *super* satisfying!
I wanna list some of the things I think should've been mentioned in the details of the enemies that could've altered their ranking (I'm doing all this from memory) :
1. The geckos can be actually used for amplifying your weapon, by executing them (and as far as i remember, you use a ninjitsu on them)
2. Infested seekers (non parasite) do have another ability that SUMMONS crickets as well
3. The centipedes are really no trouble to deal with in the slightest, you just need to either jump on them or be above them and you always have a guaranteed insta-kill
4. Monkeys get really agitated when using the whistle, for example using the whistle near them will cause nearby monkeys to attack one another
5. I wanna add the fact that senpou monks use their candies in order to receive an edge in combat, which is good detail for the lore of the game
Overall this is pretty minor in comparison to the entire list and the list itself is probably mostly oriented on certain opinions, but these little factors could mean something to someone (like the positioning of the crickets and geckos)
I would love seeing a ranking of Elden Ring or Dark Souls enemies in the future
Love what you’re doing here bro, first time seeing one of your vids and it’s fire
what a beautiful presentation.
I finally got the shura skin and you are the reason I got it because of how good it looks good
@@MamonManom It is awesome, glad you got it
other than the bitrate and quality of the video, really great video, the blurriness messed with the focus
A Sekiro prequel or sequel after the canon ending would be awesome, this gane is awesome. Good video 👍
Fun fact about the centipedes. You can jump at them to do an instant deathblow, even when they are aggroed on you. It makes dealing with the constant fire attack very fun, since if your timing is right, you jump over their throw to instantly deathblow them
One underlooked aspect of the Ashina Generals is their voice. These lads are ANGRY!
great video! I'd love to watch a Sekiro boss/mini boss ranking video from you too!
