A surprise for a student with Down syndrome whose dream just came true on the basketball court

We want to surprise people in our community with random acts of kindness and leave you feeling good.
This week a West Jefferson High School student had an experience he’ll never forget.
Wylee Morton has Down syndrome and is a huge fan of the school’s basketball program. He attends as many games as he can and this week the team allowed him to suit up and play before their official game.
Even though Wylee is 21-years-old, he’s been allowed to attend the school in Terreton but that will soon change as Idaho law prohibits students over the age of 21.
Players, coaches and spectators cheered as Wylee took to the court and even made a few baskets.

heartsofgoldenrod To be fair I dont think thats the right move. I love this video and what they did for him, however the rest of the kids cant play to their full potential if wiley is on the court. I would like to see him be a special guest every so often though, maybe doing the toss at the start and those sort of things
It's too bad that it seems like they must not have a special needs town basketball team..My town in MA has special needs leagues and it is sooo amazing to watch (my 14yr. old autistic neighbor plays in the basketball league & she looooves it and really excels at it)

Nice to see people with disabilities get a chance to live out their dreams/ and I'm apart of the disabled community. So i know and understand how to live your dream/ passion out.

Where I’m from, the only headlines are whether or not Doug Marrone and Dave Caldwell are going to be fired after today’s game, the corruption that was evident in the attempted sale of JEA (Jacksonville Electric Administration), a 7 year old boy shot in the head by his parents during a domestic dispute on the Westside, a woman found dead in her home on the westside, a woman murdered in a Southside apartment, a man being sentenced for locking his ex girlfriend in a dog cage, etc. They don’t make it a point to make Positively Jax a headline.

While I really love this, no one is doing Wylee any favors giving him all this candy. People with Downs are susceptible to heart problems as it is and being so overweight will only make it worse. His weight is going to affect his lifespan if it isn’t corrected.
I’m only saying this because Wylee seems like an incredible young man and he deserves a long, healthy life.

@@MrsPorseleintje yea my cousin has Down syndrome and she loves when she gets money just like everyone else, she loves sweets too but she would pick money over sweets every time hah plus she can buy her own sweets if she wants them. This was poor judgement in my opinion

In our family we also had a cousin with down. Beautiful girl with a heart of gold ! She was not that big, because she had lerned that it was not healthy for her to eat that much sweets... And you are right, give him money or a giftcard so he can buy somthing he likes. So much more fun for him.

You aren’t remotely concerned about his health, you’re merely using his statue as an excuse to make derogatory remarks. Not your body, not your life, not your child, not your responsibility .. not your concern !
You don’t know what’s going on in that child’s life, what the parents are doing to actively combat health issues, if he’s on medications that increases his weight (many children with downs are born with complex health issues) - you don’t know anything but a clip you’ve seen for 5 minutes.
And next time you try to insult a disabled child, learn to spell correctly.
