With high end, the products last a long time too. Get samples or minis , wait for a sale of expensive makeup products once you tested them then splurge!

I try to do that too. Because I've bought foundations that were a bit more, that didn't hit. I need to visit a Sephora and get some new samples.

My opinion is to save money, then buy highend makeup that you wear on date nights and special occasions.. then if you like find a cheaper more lightweight foundation for the everyday. If you wear makeup on a daily. That’s worked for me thus far. Also utilize your local makeup artist in your city. It’s not that expensive to get a full face done saves you time and buying your own products if you’re lazy.❤ great video! Eyeshadows and Foundations are the most expensive. I wouldn’t recommend skimping on skin or eye products….

    Splurge: foundation, primer (Danessa Myricks)
Save: basically I can find everything else either mid range (LYS, Mented, etc) or drug store. Even though of late I'm liking the Sephora brand stuff and though it's not drug store it's def in that range

  • @iamxavierbarr

I think that black people will have to splurge when it comes to complexion products because higher-end complexion products will have more variety of different undertones. Drugstore complexion products will either be too red or too orange. Drugstore makeup will not explain what the undertone is. Like I want you to tell me is it deep? medium-deep? Golden? or is it neutral? You will just have to guess most of the time. When it comes to concealer their medium deep shades will be tans and some even more beige looking. With drugstore concealers, they are either too light or too dark to highlight. There are no in-between shades. A lot of drugstore powders are so chalky looking, so brands like Fenty and Huda those brands give you so many different undertones and different shades when it comes to setting powders.

    1. Primer: Save (The Ordinary, NYX, Elf), with exception of the DM Balm
    2. Foundation: Splurge, yes with the exception of NYX Blur (and Born to Glow back-ups since it's being discontinued) Lancome Teint Idole ♥️♥️
    3. Concealer: Save (Elf, NYX. The Ordinary sadly being discontinued 🙌🏾) Exception: MAC Pro Longwear concealer
    4. Powder for setting concealer: Save, with exception of Laura Mercier (Elf Matte Setting Powder sadly being discontinued. Sephora Translucent powder is beautiful)
    5. All over face powder: Save, with exception of MAX MSF (Elf back-ups of Sheer Tint Finishing Powder, No. 7 Lift & Luminate Translucent Powder, Flower Beauty Light Illusion Perfecting Powder, Sephora Microsmooth Powder)
    6. Blush: Save (NYX Sweet Cheeks, Elf Primer Infused blush, Bare Minerals), with exception of ND palettes & blushes e.g. Bloom Palette
    7. Lip products: With exception of MAC lipsticks, Save (NYX butter glosses & brown lip pencils, Wet n Wild Megalast, Sephora Molasses)

I loved this video. When you said “debate ya mama” I laughed so damn hard 😂 This should be a tag. I usually save up for products I really want that’s high end and usually that’s foundation & eyeshadow but I have affordable options I love and use on the daily.. My pockets don’t have luxury money yet tho 😂
That’s me too. I’m always going back and giving products a second and third chance after I already decided it wasn’t for me.. and then I’m like damn why did you do this lol

High-end splurge: foundation, setting powder, contour, bronzer, mascara
    Low-end: blush, highlight, brow products
Depends on the experience you want: lipstick and eyeshadow. Personally I splurge heavily on both.

Your makeup always looks so pretty and flawless. You’re so beautiful!
I have some really great drugstore products but I love to splurge on foundation and eyeshadow (lately I’ve been loving indie sparkly ones the best!) Love the MAC mineralize blushes and am willing to spend even more than that on a good blush or bronzer! But there are just so many good affordable options now that it isn’t necessary. I usually go for drugstore lashes, liners, and highlighters. always drugstore mascara unless I’m getting a deal or something at Sephora. Lipsticks and other lip products I go either way, I have tons of MAC ones that are great, a PMG one, but also a basket full of drugstore lippies as well that are also good!
    Great video as always ❤

At one time I was running out to get almost every product that was hyped up and a lot of those are just sitting on the shelf. So for foundation I splurge. Now I was riding for Maybelline Super Stay for a good moment. But my favorite foundations I splurged. Lip products is a mix. Right now I'm loving a lipgloss by the brand Essence. I think it's $4 but it's great! The base of my eyeshadow collection is from Juvias Place. I have a Pat McGrath eyeshadow palette and I like it, it's very unique. But Juvias price is right and the quality is Great. When you mentioned concealer I remembered when LA Girl Pro concealer was all the Rage! Shanygne you should do a is it good or just hyped up. Because at one point I remember thinking I can use it forever 😂. I don't have a concealer that I love above all others. I like Mac concealers. It Cosmetics concealer is good so I guess I splurge. I splurge on setting powder. I love Charlotte Tilbury setting powders, Laura Mercier and One Size is good too. But I'm not buying a lot of new setting powder because I think that some of my powder are and were blurring before blurring became a trend. For years I used ELF setting mist and was very happy with it. I'm neutral on setting mist BUT! The Glow Recipe Watermelon Mist is definitely my favorite. I'm going to quit now. On this topic I can go on and on.

I agree with your choices. I mostly splurge (or spend with brands that's in the middle) on my makeup because as dark skin woman it's hard to find what I need in the drugstores. You left out mascara and lashes... imma splurge on those too because I HATE drugstore lashes!! They irritate me so bad because they just don't give what I need them to give (I know you like the Ardell lashes but I can't). I'm also a mascara snob and I haven't found a drugstore mascara that I like yet.

Hi Shanygne looking lovely as always 😍 🥰🥰🥰 I have to agree with you on most of what to splurge on versus what to not splurge on. Foundation can go either way depending on the brand, the a person is going for and the occasion. I don't splurge on lipstick or blush. Coloured Raine makes nice affordable blushes and the range is pretty good. Law of Nature cosmetics is a Black owned brand that is all natural that is at a nice price point and pretty good too. I am not big on concealer but I am neutral with that since I use it as my eyeshadow base. Mascara is neutral for me too. Thank you for sharing 💖 💐

This is a good yet hard topic. I like my elf concealers as well as my armani power fabric ones; I also like my elf eyeshadow palettes and, hopefully, I"ll like my just purchased ABH x Jackie Aina palette (I'm like the last person to get it and I got it through ebay so hopefully it's legit🤭);I also like my rare beauty blushes and my bh cosmetics truffle blushes collection (which are prolly hella old but I got them at a time I was dipping my toes in blush and eyeshadow because they're great for eyeshadow as well); I like my MAC Chestnut liner and Colourpop's version (I think BFF?). I like my Bite Beauty Changemaker foundation (which I'm sure it was probably mid-range at one point but I got it for less than $10 when it was going out of business) and my thread beauty complexion sticks. I like my fenty what it dew spray for the mister and scent but I also think sprays are overrated so I'm good with elf also (Side note: I bought mented's spray because I thought it would be a dupe for what it dew but it wasn't :( I think it's too late to return so I'll keep it.) And powder? I like my fenty powder foundation and currently loving the sephora microsmooth powder. I don't really splurge on brushes and primers because I agree with you I think they are a scam. I think the only purpose for me to use them is to be a barrier for my skincare and makeup; don't wanna apply makeup over sunscreen.
Overall, I think I'm team low-end because I like a deal and I think it's more application than anything. But you have to know where to look tho.

I have a small collection which I like to keep in one regular storage container and take with me in a makeup bag, so I'd rather buy high end/mid tier products that perform well and have just one of each type (except eyeshadow palettes, but I only have max 5 of these at once, mostly 6-9 pan). High end multitasking things like face palettes have really high value for money and I don't need 6 different face compacts with them. I also can't find any decent drugstore foundations that stay on my skin and don't irritate it, so I'm very suspicious of them. The only things I refuse to buy luxury are mascara, eye pencils and lip products, they expire fast so I don't want to worry about throwing them out. Essence waterproof mascaras work for me as nicely as some high end ones.
It is so sick that Black people have to pay luxury prices for base products just for them to work as intended. It's like a black beauty tax 😠
