While I am not active player in MP (learning my A-4 in SP), I have to agree with the original comment. A-4 is a great module and free at that, but there is no equivalent on the red side - or at least to my knowledge. 🤷🏼 So, A-10 and Su-25 would really be awesome, IMO.
Please do a Korean war style map, like the event that was run on the server previously! With props, F-86, MiG15bis, and maybe the MiG17 and F100 when they come out. Although the F100 might be a bit advanced for my vision and if the AIM9B is available to the sabre then I think the MiG17 would at least give missile capability to red for, I am thinking no supersonic planes. It would provide some healthy competition to IL-2 with their announcement of Korea being their next installment.
i think your making a big mistake with the 80's mission, it should be focused around the MiG-23 and F-4, and the MiG-29 and Mirage 2000 (and F-14) when it comes to air to air. the MiG-21 and F-5 just shouldn't be the main focus in the 80's, and i own both of them, dont make the 80's feel like the 70's
How come the F-15C isn't in the 80's campaign and limit it to carry the earlier aim7's? Seems odd, on a side note the '80s campaign seems a great place to put an m2000 module while I know technically it came out in the early 90s with it being fox1 only plane and all other planes at this time are fox3 it would be a nice addition to have a home to fly the mirage 2000 in a competitive environment vs a modern environment where its out classed. Just my two cents.
I really hope Kola makes it into the rotation when it comes out! It fits any era of Cold War and would be a nice way to balance desert vs non desert maps. Thanks for all of y’all’s hard work, ECW is a treasure to DCS.
Really love the UA-cam content! I keep meaning to hop on to the server and try out DCS multiplayer. I am one of those cash-strapped players who's reliant on the base maps and the A4 - if a financial barrier to entry is a concern, why not use the Marianas map for one of the three (four?) scenarios? It might not be ideal, but is it an option? Thanks for all you do for the server and the community, hugely grateful!

I would love if we could have more mission time during dawn and dusk. Its an entirely different type of fight, especially in the latter when it gets darker and you identify targets via afterburners. Changes the whole atmosphere around the fight as well.
Part of the problem is that dawn missions rapidly turn to day, and dusk missions turn to night (at which point it's almost impossible to see, much less navigate and/or fight)
Are you going to be doing a Korean War-era campaign set as well (eventually)? One that includes both first-gen (and perhaps even early second-gen) jets as well as the tail end of prop planes (so the WWII warbirds + early jets like MiG-15, F-86, and F9F mod)...?
I totally understand what you're saying regarding maps. Sinai totally fits 70s and 80s Cold War, but maps are pretty expensive. And take up huge amounts of drive space.
I really like the idea of the PG map, however I was wondering or hoping it would be a geopolitical backstory driven campaign like you could make an Iran/Iraq war scenario set in an alternate timeline. And here it's not just generic blue vs red but proper use of factions and coalitions. For instance you can divide Iran into 2, and give the western side to Iraq, Russia, China etc. with Iraq being the main faction here and China/Russia being supporting factions. Iraq can have most of their planes, aka Mig-21, 19, 23 when it comes out, 29, Mirage F-1 along with some Hips and Hinds of course. Some of the supporting faction aircraft can be there too like Russian Su-25s, L-39s, Chinese Mig-19s, Mi-8s etc. As for Blue of course Iran being the main faction here, F-86, F-5, F-4 when it comes out and limited number of F-14As! There can be supporting planes here as well eg American F-4s, F-5s, even Saudi F-5s and F-86s, and you can also add UAE MB-339s here for good measure. Iran also has the Huey so that's another plus! I really think this is a massive missed opportunity and should be worth a try at least! Please see what can be done
Glad you guys are continuing to update and try new concepts. I wonder if as ecw ages and people burnout and need a break if the player population will be able to support 3 servers continuously (is it 3 servers or 1 with 3 missions?). Regardless I figure you guys are willing to change and adapt to whatever lessons become apparent.
Ok I need to work on my CW planes and get use to flying them. I usually don't fly Multi but I think this is the year I will. Have you made a "Getting Started" video for ECW? Besides getting connected, what other programs would a person need? Like a voice chat server, etc. I will see you in the skies soon.
I think you should introduce a campaign/intermission that is Mid 80s cold war NATO/Warsaw pact in the Caucasus mountains. This makes 2 grass maps/2 desert maps so it’s a bit more even to fit everybody’s tastes.
I am currently cash trapped and cannot even afford modules as I'm stuck with the default Su-25T, and I don't know how I will be able to get in ECW, but already you keeping the map Caucasus already puts it on the prority list, thanks for understanding the community and being so generous.
On top the the fantastic and very fun A-4 community module you can buy The SU-25A for like $7.50 USD right now as you cant use a SU-25T in the cold war.
Same here! 😓 Also, I love A-4 mod, but there is nothing like it on the red side. 🤷🏼 Edit: I'm saving for Hotas, modules and maps are off the chart for some time.
This sounds good. I am not a current player on enigma, but I like helicopters and the only server I have experience with is rotorheads. That site is unrealistic in that way too much AAA and not enough other targets. It’s nice to hone your skills but it’s like playing war thunder. It gives a lack of purpose sometimes
Dude. Please jump on. We need rotor boys in Enigma. We only have Gazel, Huey, Mi-8, and Mi-24 but fighting jets pushing the front might give you something refreshing to do.
Would it be possible to add p-51 to 1960’s ecw? It just seems like it would be fun flying at treetop level hiding from migs even if it’s not very effective
No the campaign is a curated experience and not a place for these modules that are too modern. Sorry. There has to be at least one server that does this outside the WWII servers
Love the server. The only issue I have is it’s almost always full when I do get on.. and like many others my time for DCS in any day is very limited. A second server would be great, however I understand why splitting the players up to have two servers only half full is not as enjoyable, but if you think you could fill two then maybe worth considering?
A bit of an odd question you'll likely have answered on discord, but I'm not active on there. Is there a specific reason as to why the Hornet, F-16 and F-15's are excluded from the 1980's (or even the 1970's) plan? I can think of a couple 'maybe's', but none I'm very certain about... Is it that the cockpit and the systems are too modern and might pose too great of a technological advantage over the other aircraft? (An issue the F-14 wouldn't have) Or is it because these modules make it less likely for other modules to chosen? Is there perhaps a coding reason for it, i.e. recon range, or something in that area? I'm of course not very knowledgeable about a ton of their usage in the 1970's and 1980's, but I do know that you could technically take period-specific loadouts with all these aircraft. further adding on to the fact that I don't have a lot of info about that, to me it seems like these aircraft are similar to the F-14 in what they're capable of carrying and what they had (between the 1970's and 1990's at least). Would be interesting to know as I'm currently practicing the Viggen (and have pre-ordered the F-4) for Some games in the Enigma server.
What does garnish actually mean? If there is no restriction players won't care and I don't see any difference in planeset between scenarios 1 and 2, apart from the Su-25 and A-10. I find that a bit odd, since the F1, 21-bis, F5 and Viggen are 70s planes. I would not call that scenario "early cold war". I think Scenario 1 would be a lot more interesting, if these aircraft would not be included once the Mig-17 and Super Sabre are out. F-86, F-100 as cap, F4 multirole and A4 as attacker on blue vs. the 3 Migs on red as multi-role, with the Huey and Mi-8 as Helos is more then enough variance for a scenario, while it would be a bigger distinction from scenario 2 and incentivise more people (not only the chads) to fly older models like the Mig-17 or F-100 without inferiority-fear.
Heavier weapon restrictions most likely but we will feel our way through it. The idea is not so much to stay to a rigid timeframe but more give different modules a time to shine as the cold war gets more fleshed out
@@Enigma89 Thank you for answering, was just stating my opinion, but I am also a bit of a historical accuracy nerd. Maybe sometime in the future a real early cold war scenario will come to fruition 🙂, with even more aircraft coming for that timeframe (Fiat G91, Corsair II, Skyraider)
@Enimga89 Having the option for maps to be licensed to server hosts is a very wise idea. Do you think that would be welcomed in subscription form by large server hosts, or would a single payment be preferred? Obviously, enforcing a license model on every server is a horrible idea, subscription-based or not. Some people just want to play with their crew, and I'm sure ED wouldn't want to punish them for doing so. Considering that larger servers already have recurring hosting payments, and that modern businesses benefit from predictable and consistent income, I could see this idea being mutually beneficial. More players could join those servers, which any large public server wants, and ED could gain a stable income flow. I personally avoid subscriptions as an end user as much as I can, but SaaS models are proven to be productive for business to business (can I call large, public servers volunteer businesses?) if the conditions are agreeable. As far as disclosure, I only hope this question produces feedback without offense. I have no investment in whether it's implemented beyond potentially being able to play on maps I can't afford at the moment.
Thanks for the updates, really like the evolution. Would love to see the 1950 intermission back in the mix as well, that was a real vibe. Jugs dogfighting Sabres, chefs kiss
Yeah the 1950s-early 1960s is REALLY underserviced in "Cold War" content. It enables some WW 2 a/c to join in and has some very fun possibilities, but I get it... there's only so many modules in game so far and not a lot of players have them... but damn can that be FUN! There's just something compelling about the subsonic regime, where the T/W ratios are lower, the speeds are within a tighter window (a good "bounce" can enable slower planes to catch faster) and it's just more bare bones and raw. Even the A-10, MB-339 and Harrier could be possible (although limited) if the options are limited (no AAM really evens the playing field a lot! A harrier vs a sabre really is a tough fight if JUST using guns!)
I love your server. However I am woefully under skilled and play haphazardly. Do you have a video of how best to connect with squadrons to optimize the experience?
I think you may like Yappy's training server. He has a channel on YT and they are pretty easy going over there. Mainly they fly "training" planes, including the F5 and A4, and others.
Love it. I have been out for a while. Is there a place on the discord where we can see the schedule so we can see in advance what is coming and plan accordingly?
The issue with that is that we have to create missions that can last and persist through resets and that makes thing so much more complex. If we find that people like these we can play around with things.
I love the idea of these little “in between” missions. Do you have any plans to make any of them centered on ww2? I understand there are significant paywall challenges with dcs ww2, but with the influence of ecw I feel like it could lead to some interesting scenarios!

If you ever add a 4th map, I hope it would not be another of those "DCS Grand Desert" maps. Maybe waiting for Kola Peninsula or Vietnam to come out, or using South Atlantic or Marianas.
I'd definitely be interested in a Korea multiplayer mission. My favorite ww2 plane is the Corsair. However, really only play the game online pvp. It's not the correct Corsair for Korea, but that's no big deal. It's going to be 3-5 years until dcs will have a decently well fleshed out Pacific ww2 server I'm guessing. Even a once in a while place to fly the Corsair may be enough for me to buy it
Enigma, Will we see the cold war server coming to the Kola peninsula map when it is released? I and I think MANY others would absolutely adore this region for a server such as yours
Great! I love how this server is developing, i have a few questions: -Why do you take some more time for the Korea and heli only intermissions? We already have a few events and they were pretty nice, as much as i remember. -Next i have a question about the timezone, if an intermission last four hours in the USA, people from Europe wont be able to partecipate because of timezones and viceversa, how is it possibile to resolve this? - Wouldn't it be cool if, for each intermission you guys decide the skins for each plane (can be one skin per plane or a few and the player decides which one to choose) and the armament, following historical accuracy? I'm really enjoying how this server is growing, both in numbers and quality. Keep it on, comrades
The time zone thing is not really something we can plan around. The intermissions are not the main focus, so they will come and go. In order for us to feel comfortable in experimenting with them, we have to limit how much they are on the server. Korea and helis will come eventually.
I personally agree with your view that there are "pay walls" for maps wich splits the community BUT people mostly dont buy this maps bcs no popular servers OFFERS them and Support those maps so they just stay with the herd, It seems like people are stuck forever on cauc or syria and persian golf. And actually NOBODY can tell me that there are A TON of people who play this game arent willing to pay money if they allready buyed themself a module wich can be compared to an full price GAME in price point. DCS is no cheap hobby everybody who plays this or EVEN STARTS knows that straight from the beginning. I think that a lot more servers should have those new maps in rotation so people have an REASON to buy them.
Thanks for the update Enigma! Are there any other plans of integrating any community planes into the mix? Are there any plans to have two campaigns running seperately in different servers?
1) There are no plans to integrate any more community planes. We are keeping close eye on the Cobra mod. In general people should automatically assume that we will not put something on the server and this extends to both modules and mods. 2) No. We would rather have one big server instead of two semi populated servers. Additionally, we do not have the time to support two servers.
i truly hope you will let the kiowa warrior in so i can fight hinds and other helis with the gau19 (if they add it) ive bought the hind the f5e and syria map so i can play on your servers soon (after my buddy tutors me the how tos) Heli pvp and dumb munition runs are what i love same goes for the F5E i share your passion about fluid and dynamic engagements that arent just bland MFD management the modern age is cool (i have the f18) but it gets old quick
Now just need to work on server stability instead of adding more and more things to slow it down. The first few days after the 2.9 update the servers were butter smooth even with 70 players. Now it crashes consistently or has very low performance often. Thanks for the server. Keep up the good work.
Just please don't lose what you got. I was so disappointed to see the Tempest servers switch up their map styles to that story driven stuff. Tempest and ECW were the two best covering CW and SARH servers respectively. I wish we had old Tempest. :(
I do honestly think serverside map licenses need to be a thing in dcs, because 70s being locked to syria immediately means i wont be able to play half the stuff i want to...
please reconsider this. as you state that the beginning of the video, ecw is the go to server for cold war....if people need a break from it then they can go to a different server, one server does not need to provide everything. this is similar to what tempest did and it completely killed all fun on that server for me and my group that used to fly tempest daily, now tempest is boring as fuck to fly. and i cant help but see that's exactly the same road ecw going to end up going. I absolutely love yalls cold war server to the point iv been a patron. but i could not sit by and not speak my mind. some of my friends only have a couple days a week to fly, and if these 24 hr "intermissions" are landing on these days, which we all know that they will also seem to do, then that will be the end of our time on ecw.
Woiuld it be possible to have the Harrier in the 1980s campaign? I love that aircraft and much prefer atg to ata missions, and with longer flight times I'd love not having to slug around in the A10
I think that if more quality servers supported the new maps, more people would get them. I LOVE the faulklands map, and an enigma style server with combat around that era/war would be absolutely amazing. But since nobody supports the map yet, there is no reason for anyone to buy it.
As a Harrier fan I've been waiting patiently for them to appear in the Enigma style servers so saw this and thought Yes! Finally!.. But I noted they weren't listed. Is that an oversight or are you keeping the Harriers out?
What's the state of recon on these campaigns? I watched the 2022 video on it, and am trying to get into the MiG21, and the recon function really appealed to me.
I do disagree because if you are looking for Cold War gone "hot", the Sinai and Syria maps are the ones to run, and that would be the best place to focus until and if ED releases a Vietnam Map, and that is less about the Cold War and more about the Vietnam War. Back in the late 90's EA released Jane's IAF which was all about the wars in the Sinai, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon, and it was a very successful game. I think people are just sick of so many desert maps but, if they actually stopped and thought about it, after WWII, and even during, there was a lot of desert combat in the middle east and Afghanistan, and now history repeats itself and war is happening there yet again.
While we really like the campaign and plan to continue to support it as our main focus, we think that these intermissions will help keep things fresh. Additionally, we are really excited for how each individual campaign will evolve as the Cold War scene gets more fleshed out. Let me know what you think.

On top the the fantastic and very fun A-4 community module you can buy The SU-25A for like $7.50 USD right now as you cant use a SU-25T in the cold war.
Same here! 😓 Also, I love A-4 mod, but there is nothing like it on the red side. 🤷🏼
Edit: I'm saving for Hotas, modules and maps are off the chart for some time.
Really looking forward to all of this
Really no F16 for the 80ies? ( No AWACS, no Amraam = 80ies?)
(An issue the F-14 wouldn't have)
Or is it because these modules make it less likely for other modules to chosen?
A lot of the planes you mentioned are modern variants not relevant ones for our scenarios.
@@Enigma89 Roger, thanks for the clarification!
That Mirage...
Map licenses would be awesome. Cold War in Sinai is my bread and butter... Its a fantastic map
I think the subscription model is fair and reasonable to be honest.
Intermission sounds so cool
tbh i think all of these intermission scenarios should be 24 hours! they sound fun
Even a once in a while place to fly the Corsair may be enough for me to buy it
Thank God I was waiting for the phantom as nothing else but the tomcat has any kind of Interst here for me. I've been waiting to use the big cat.
Enigma, Will we see the cold war server coming to the Kola peninsula map when it is released? I and I think MANY others would absolutely adore this region for a server such as yours
Depends on the quality of the map
@@Enigma89 Fair enough, but if it is of good quality, do you think you guys will give us a campaign on it?
Great! I love how this server is developing, i have a few questions:
-Why do you take some more time for the Korea and heli only intermissions?
@@Enigma89 thanks for answering, this intermission things looks fun, hope to try them soon
In the 1980's Server will you be able to fly the T-Variant of the SU-25? Because it is a very 1980's plane!
Intermission #2 would be awesome if Mi-8s could deploy sams like they could on Alpen
We are not introducing slinging
I would love a 4th campaign in the Nevada map, as a fictional invasion of the USA, would be very fun!
Would love a modernised version of the server that just restricts certain newer technology weapons like fox 3s, maybe jsow and jdam weapons.
Modern is not playable, too much missing
Thanks for the update Enigma!
Are there any other plans of integrating any community planes into the mix?
Are there any plans to have two campaigns running seperately in different servers?
1) There are no plans to integrate any more community planes. We are keeping close eye on the Cobra mod. In general people should automatically assume that we will not put something on the server and this extends to both modules and mods.
2) No. We would rather have one big server instead of two semi populated servers. Additionally, we do not have the time to support two servers.
Please no.
@@Enigma89 Understandable. F-4, F-104, and BO-105 will hopefully come at one point available AND accepted as ECW modules :-)
Any chance we get to play around more with the harrier seeing as it was an 80s aircraft?
Good concept, nice to see some changes. Btw why on the 80´s scenario the f15 is not there?
Forgot to tack it on. It's in the Lebanon mission. We will prolly add it into campaign when we get mig23
Will scenario 3(advanced) include the Kiowa upon its release? (Or perhaps in the intermission scenarios)
Will F14 get its AIM-54 in the Persian Gulf 1980 scenario? Would be flavorful...
i truly hope you will let the kiowa warrior in so i can fight hinds and other helis with the gau19 (if they add it) ive bought the hind the f5e and syria map so i can play on your servers soon (after my buddy tutors me the how tos) Heli pvp and dumb munition runs are what i love same goes for the F5E i share your passion about fluid and dynamic engagements that arent just bland MFD management the modern age is cool (i have the f18) but it gets old quick
Now just need to work on server stability instead of adding more and more things to slow it down. The first few days after the 2.9 update the servers were butter smooth even with 70 players. Now it crashes consistently or has very low performance often. Thanks for the server. Keep up the good work.
That's for ED to fix really.
Do you guys know any server that follows the same rules and persistance but allows modern planes like the F16?
Yep, we allow it on Contention.
Will the M2000 be in the 80s campaign? It seems tailor made for it.
Yeah I just can't afford all of these new maps. Thanks for including that in your selection.
Loved the outro.
This is a dumb question, but how do I find ECW? I click multiplayer and can't find it on the list.
type enigma in the search, should pop up
I would strongly reccomend to add a sinai permanent server, In the comming years will be as owned as Syria today.
Anybody else think the mig23 and f4 should be grouped together since they are both gen 3?
As a Harrier fan I've been waiting patiently for them to appear in the Enigma style servers so saw this and thought Yes! Finally!.. But I noted they weren't listed. Is that an oversight or are you keeping the Harriers out?
It's too modern but maybe for intermissions we can include
@Enigma89 AV8B was in service 1985 so maybe it could be squeezed in?
A barrier was but not the barrier we have in the game. We want to avoid these modules that are modern
Why don't you organize dynamic campaigns like "Tactical air war" in IL-2 ?
Weekend gaming
Thank you for your passion and support
so 1980s but the F-14 doesn't have the AIM-54?
Will Scenario 3 (1980s) see the KA50 BS3?
What's the state of recon on these campaigns? I watched the 2022 video on it, and am trying to get into the MiG21, and the recon function really appealed to me.
Its listed out in the faq
great ending
Just hope the intermissions don't mostly fall on the weekends.
any plans for the f15c to be added, ik the f15e is wayyyy too late but the c would be really cool especiall in pg
Somehow I haven't really played on this server yet as I'm always on Greyflag... I think I should fix this mistake.
Also, Sinai is an awesome map!
It’s the only Cold War server that matters.
