  • People will often ask you: "how good is your English?" And if you answer "I'm fluent in word und writing.", they will think you aren't fluent at all. Because this is Denglisch, not English. In this business English video tip, I will show you different ways to say "Ich bin fließend in Wort und Schrift." and different ways to write that on your CV.
If you are preparing for a job interview and need to get your CV ready, then make sure to get this right on your CV. Hope you find this business English video tip useful.

Hey everyone, this is Neil Collins. In this video, I want to talk about an important question. If someone asks you "Wie gut ist dein Englisch?" And you want to say: "Ich bin fließend in Wort und Schrift." How do you say that in English? That's what this video is going to explain. Enjoy.
Okay, so don't write "fluent in word and write" or "fluent in word and writing". And don't write "fluent in speech and writing" on your CV because this is not correct. Also, don't say "I'm fluent in English speech and writing." It's not fully wrong, but also it's not fully correct. So, don't say that.
So, what you can say is or what you can write on your CV is "I'm fluent in spoken and written English" or you can say: "I'm proficient or I'm highly proficient in spoken and written English." or if your level is a little bit lower but still good, you can write on your CV: "good command of both spoken and written English" or "good working knowledge of both spoken and written English". So, I'll write all those things here for you.
So, as I said, these are the things you can write on your CV. You can write "fluent in spoken and written English" and that's quite general. Or you can write "proficient in both spoken and written English" if your level is like a C1. If you have a C2 level, maybe it's better to say: "highly proficient in both spoken and written English". If your level is a bit lower but still quite good, if you have like a B2 level, you could say or write on your CV: "good command of" or "good working knowledge of spoken and written English". And if you're speaking and somebody asks you "How good is your English?", the most natural thing to say would be something like "I speak and write English fluently." So, as I was talking about levels with these sentences here, if you want to know what your grammar level is, click on this link below, and that's a grammar test. I'l get your answers corrected and email you back with your level. Thanks a lot for watching the video. I hope it was useful. Remember to subscribe to the channel. There are new videos every Wednesday. And see you soon.
Hey guys. Thanks a lot for watching the videos. If you're wondering what you can watch next, well, you can watch more vocabulary, you could watch more grammar videos or you could watch more videos explaining typical German phrases. Simple...enjoy.
