Den scoth. These parents are passing on such gifts to their children. Well done, maith thú. I have such respect for the mothers who moved from England and Spain. Fáilte agus bienvenida a ustedes.

Go diail ar fad! Míle buíochas as bhur scéalta a roinnt. Táim ag déanamh gach iarracht Gaeilge a labhairt le mo neacht nua. Ag súil go mór mór le Gaeilge a chloisteáil uaithi nuair a thosaíonn sí ag caint.

That’s awesome. I’m from America (only 2 generations). Before that, my family is Irish, English (15%) and Welsh (about 16%) for the past 600 years. My uncle spoke Irish. Drove my father mad. He didn’t read or speak Irish. I wish he had. I’d love to know the language of my family.

Ní uaim páistí ar bith, ar a laghad anois ach dá mbeadh amháin agam lá álainn sa thodchaí, ba mhaith liom é nó í a rug trí Ghaeilge. Ach teastaóidh uaim bóg do na Gaeltachta 😂

Maith go leor. I want to rear my children through Irish, and break the cycle of English speaking in my family.
As is said: theres no harm in having english, but there's harm in not having Irish

Trying to raise my little boy with some basic Irish in England although I’m not fluent, but what I struggle with is the little baby talk that I was brought up with in English. Things that come naturally in English, but I only know the more adult language form of Irish because I was never exposed to it as a baby and in England there are no Irish playgroups near me that I can go to. Can anyone point me to any resources for speaking to very young babies and toddlers in Irish?

Download a free app called Duolingo. Learn the basics and you will be able to speak to young children very easily using the basics.

The young woman from Spain will have multilingual children! What a wonderful gift they are giving their children, raising them speaking more than one language. My husband and I raised our son speaking Spanish and English. Sadly, he has chosen not to teach his children Spanish. Little children can learn several languages at the same time and somehow know when to use which language, without becoming confused. My father's family were from the West coast of Ireland. It has been my dream to travel there one day and I would love to learn Irish Gaelic.

I'm sure she does. She studied it and has kids that live in the country. She's lived there for years. She might not feel comfortable speaking English in front of a camera...especially about a topic as nuanced as this. I'm Irish-American and speak Spanish/Italian to borderline fluency...speak very basic German as well. It amazes me how arrogant English speakers are when it comes to non-native speakers either barely speaking English, or not speaking it well enough to their liking. It's exponentially easier for an English speaker to learn Spanish or dozens of other languages, yet so many Americans or Brits get mad when tourists/immigrants don't speak decent English. Even more ridiculous when you notice how English speakers are terrible about learning languages. Cant tell you how many times I've heard people verbally abuse workers/people on the street foe not speaking English or not speaking it well enough. People who learned Spanish for 8 years in school yelling at a poor Latin immigrant who prolly never formally studied English for making mistakes or having an accent
