Yep. Definitely looks like an oopsie in exporting. There are a lot of combing artifacts from interlacing and this video is half the framerate of the first one. Happens to the best of us.

Goombario was always underrated imho. Charge combined with multibonk is bonkers crazy strong. The final battle thought about that, so the devs made it so you cant abuse it.
The greatest part about Paper Mario is that makes the Mushroom Kingdom feel like a place to live instead of it just being one big obstacle course. "Enemy" types having their own little cultures and being friendly at times is such a stroke of genius from the creators and really sells that point.

Every time Mario does that shaking animation after hitting the block I just imagine he’s making the “Hoohoohoo!” sound from Superstar Saga and that just makes me giggle.
Man, hearing the "Goombario joined your party" just hit me like a wave of nostalgia I can't even describe. I didn't watch the entire original Paper Mario LP, but I've for sure seen a compilation of the biggest moments, and I do remember that fun sing-songy way Chugga would always say when getting a partner.
I can see what you mean about the knowledge about good Goombas existing in the Marioverse. It's a good subtle way to teach children something pretty important if you think about it. I wasn't really surprised to see good Goombas in Mario games because I kinda had a similar thing with Bob-ombs when I played Mario 64 for the first time. Seeing the pink ones in that game kinda instilled in me that there are good ones and bad ones right away, so I kinda carried that piece of knowledge in my mind ever since, albeit subconsciously.
I love how Chugga relays the slogan of the toad house, "Refresh your Body and Mind" and then tells us to "Keep it in Mind for later." Immediately followed by Goombama yelling at Goombario to "Mind" his manners and Goompapa telling them to keep a Calm Mind. Caught me off guard Chugga made no puns ha.
5:55 I'm fairly sure this is a bit of rubber house cartoon comedy. Normally in cartoons of old if someone tried to hit something they couldn't break they'd wobble/shiver/crack.
It brings a tear to see this let's play. I grew up watching you and the runaway guys back in like 2012 and loved your super paper Mario LP and this is just bringing me back to the good ol days!

Friendly tip: Just pressing the B button will make sure you don't get accidental tutorials. Cursor defaults to options that don't trigger them. Unless it's TTYD's action command tutorial, that one actually needs you to think for the first prompt.
Fun fact: when I first got a computer back in 2009 as an 11 year old, I went to UA-cam as some friends recommended. I looked up “Paper Mario for N64” as I found out about the older games via Super Smash Bros. Brawl as I used to play it all the time, & the older games are listed in the chronology. That’s how I found Chuggas UA-cam channel & I’ve been a fan since! I remember he wanted to play Suoer Mario RPG as it was released for the Wii virtual console! 😂
Funny how a game called Paper Mario doesn't go hard on the fact it's technically a paper world, but I think it adds to the immersion that this is a living, breathing world. Sure would be a shame if future games took the whole paper aesthetic too seriously...

I know this is an old video but, I’m so glad you’re back! You were my first UA-camr I ever subscribed to after your FRLG LP, and I started watching you more after your Okami one that you also became the first of my top three comfort channels, the second one being the GameGrumps in case you were curious. Had to take a break after you came back to deal with some mental health issues of my own, but now I can finally catch up since I last watched you which was before this LP.
I remember being 12 years old excitedly awaiting the new episode of Luigi's Mansion everyday. I'm a graduate student now and it makes me so happy to see Chugga going strong, doing what he wants, and making new content so I can wait the same way I used to 11 years ago

Paper Mario, the literal representation of the term "Babies's first RPG", but that's not a bad thing at all. The game design is incredible, many may think a lot of stuff is minor and given, but you have to lay out the mechanics to new players and not lose them in the way. You just got the Hammer? Here's a room full of trees to test it! You're learning about combat and first strikes?, Here's 3 types of Goombas that require different moves to beat!

I get people love Xenoblade Chronicles, Danganrompa, Ace Attorney, Persona, etc. but for awhile it felt like that's what Emile, and Reese/Lucahjin, had become and I just missed the days when they played *other* games. I started excitedly screaming about the No-Arms Family and old men when Emile entered into Goomba Village! Yeah I know that was a Lucahjin thing, but I used to watch Reese and Emile's Paper Mario LPs back-to-back way back in the day, so for me, it's all nostalgic!)
I’ve been depressed for a long time, but these last 4 months specifically have been bad. But seeing these videos pop up has been super nostalgic and comforting. I got into chuggaaconroy because I loved paper Mario so much when I was 7 years old. I’m 21 now and still really adore these RPGs and chuggaaconroy. Ah yes, the moment where we beat up a literal child. Surely, only what the most noble of heroes would do. Eh, he had it coming, the snot-nosed brat. I have to say, that veranda scene is one of the moments that really exemplifies the humor of these games. It's not in your face at all, but it's a small moment that makes use of the fact that this is a world of paper people and uses that to its advantage. It's the little moments that make me love these games.

For example here Jr. Troopa's level is 41 while Mario's 1 so (41-1)/2 = 20 Star Points. 11:23 I wonder what Goombario says here in the Japanese version. 11:58 You're not alone Emile, we all fell for this tutorial at least once! 13:39 Still have no idea why they changed the new partner music outside of Japan. 14:30 I find it interesting that here unlike in Super Mario RPG and in later Paper Mario entries sleeping at inns is free.

As a kid, I didn’t appreciate Goombario as a party member, and then I got older, I started to appreciate his contribution to Mario’s adventure and his commentary can be hilarious!
Thought it’d be fun to analyze what makes a partner’s battle viability so strong. With that being said: Goombario. Strengths: Tied for the Highest basic attack damage at 6, Can decimate Bosses with Charge/Multibonk Weaknesses: Tattle does nothing at all, Lack of AoE and the aforementioned Charge/Multibonk combo is discouraged thanks to how many turns it takes to get Goombario into that god-like strength. Not to mention the FP cost of Charge stacking up. Keep in mind, you’d still need 3 FP for a Multibonk.
9:27 I just realized, that sound is used in the Gameboy fire emblems for when a thief opens something like a chest. I don’t know which used it first, but that’s cool that Intelligent Systems used that sound byte for two separate series
This game is so simple and so complex. I love the puzzle aspect in and out of battle, and all the ways abilities and enemies interact with the environment.
One thing I loved about the old Paper Mario games is how they made some of the common enemies as non-hostiles just friendly NPCs that live along side the Toads instead of it being a clear distinction of who's good and bad.
I'm just here to remind everyone of the incredible saga of Aramaru 1837, Dave Mathew, & Mr. Hater. My personal theory is that Chugga was secretly Aramaru the whole time.
I love the theme for when you get a new party member same for when you get the hammer which I’m guessing we will hear more when we find more important items, the Goomba family are such charming characters. So, Chuggaaconroy is a constant favorite of mine. My dog came into my life around the time Emile started.... err... Crystal, I believe. Crystal, Majora's Mask, Okamiden or Okami. I got my Chihuahua around the release of HGSS/ BW. Maybe around the start of TRG.

I know this is an old video but, I’m so glad you’re back! You were my first UA-camr I ever subscribed to after your FRLG LP, and I started watching you more after your Okami one that you also became the first of my top three comfort channels, the second one being the GameGrumps in case you were curious. Had to take a break after you came back to deal with some mental health issues of my own, but now I can finally catch up since I last watched you which was before this LP.

Paper Mario, the literal representation of the term "Babies's first RPG", but that's not a bad thing at all. The game design is incredible, many may think a lot of stuff is minor and given, but you have to lay out the mechanics to new players and not lose them in the way. You just got the Hammer? Here's a room full of trees to test it! You're learning about combat and first strikes?, Here's 3 types of Goombas that require different moves to beat!

But seriously, it's so nice seeing a non-Xenoblade/non-weeb Let's Play from Emile! (And I say that as a self-professed weeb. I get people love Xenoblade Chronicles, Danganrompa, Ace Attorney, Persona, etc. but for awhile it felt like that's what Emile, and Reese/Lucahjin, had become and I just missed the days when they played *other* games. I started excitedly screaming about the No-Arms Family and old men when Emile entered into Goomba Village! Yeah I know that was a Lucahjin thing, but I used to watch Reese and Emile's Paper Mario LPs back-to-back way back in the day, so for me, it's all nostalgic!)

I’ve been depressed for a long time, but these last 4 months specifically have been bad. But seeing these videos pop up has been super nostalgic and comforting. I got into chuggaaconroy because I loved paper Mario so much when I was 7 years old. I’m 21 now and still really adore these RPGs and chuggaaconroy. Takes me back to when I wasn’t always stressed out by every aspect of my life at every given moment. Long time viewer, first time commenter, I love your content Emile. I’ve only ever experienced this game through Chuggaa’s earlier LP, so this remaster’s giving me tons of appreciation for the smaller details I never noticed! Nice to have videos above a time limit, too.

I have to say, that veranda scene is one of the moments that really exemplifies the humor of these games. It's not in your face at all, but it's a small moment that makes use of the fact that this is a world of paper people and uses that to its advantage. It's the little moments that make me love these games.

As a kid, I didn’t appreciate Goombario as a party member, and then I got older, I started to appreciate his contribution to Mario’s adventure and his commentary can be hilarious!
Thought it’d be fun to analyze what makes a partner’s battle viability so strong. With that being said: Goombario.
Strengths: Tied for the Highest basic attack damage at 6, Can decimate Bosses with Charge/Multibonk
Weaknesses: Tattle does nothing at all, Lack of AoE and the aforementioned Charge/Multibonk combo is discouraged thanks to how many turns it takes to get Goombario into that god-like strength. Not to mention the FP cost of Charge stacking up. Keep in mind, you’d still need 3 FP for a Multibonk.

This game is so simple and so complex. I love the puzzle aspect in and out of battle, and all the ways abilities and enemies interact with the environment.
One thing I loved about the old Paper Mario games is how they made some of the common enemies as non-hostiles just friendly NPCs that live along side the Toads instead of it being a clear distinction of who's good and bad.
There's something oddly satisfying hearing Emile's screams randomly during gameplay.
His Goomamma sounds like Escargoon from Kirby Right Back at Ya'

I love the theme for when you get a new party member same for when you get the hammer which I’m guessing we will hear more when we find more important items, the Goomba family are such charming characters. Going through memory lane here, finished paper mario lp and the thousand year door several times over, and super mario RPG were my all time favorites.
