Hi! Here´s a short guitar lesson of (Looking For) The Heart of Saturday Night by Tom Waits. From the album The Heart of Saturday Night. Lesson starts at: 1:57 Here´s a link to an old recording I did of this song: ua-cam.com/video/hj3SUmkfZEY/v-deo.html If you´re into nature, hiking, dogs, the outdoors in general, check out my other channel called Freedom in Nature : ua-cam.com/channels/xw7lz6H_BuYC8DzAi1zzsg.html LYRICS: Well you gassed her up behind the wheel Got your arm around your sweet one in your Oldsmobile Barrelin' down the boulevard You're looking for the heart of Saturday night And you got paid on Friday pockets are jinglin' Then you see the lights you get all tinglin' cause you're cruisin' with a 6 And you're looking for the heart of Saturday night Then you comb your hair shave your face Tryin' to wipe out every trace Of all the other days in the week you know that this'll be the Saturday you're reachin' your peak Stoppin' on the red goin' on the green 'Cause tonight'll be like nothin' you've ever seen And you're barrelin' down the boulevard You´re lookin' for the heart of Saturday night Tell me is the crack of the poolballs, neon buzzin? Telephone's ringin'; it's your second cousin Is it the barmaid that's smilin' from the corner of her eye? Magic of the melancholy tear in your eye. Makes it kind of quiver down in the core 'Cause you're dreamin' of them Saturdays that came before And now you're stumblin' You're stumblin' onto the heart of Saturday night Well you gassed her up you're behind the wheel With your arm around your sweet one in your Oldsmobile Barrellin' down the boulevard, You're lookin' for the heart of Saturday night Is the crack of the poolballs, neon buzzin? Telephone's ringin'; it's your second cousin And the barmaid is smilin' from the corner of her eye Magic of the melancholy tear in your eye. Makes it kind of special down in the core And you're dreamin' of them Saturdays that came before It's found you stumblin' Stumblin' onto the heart of Saturday night And you're stumblin' Stumblin onto the heart of Saturday night
great simple lesson. Love the fact that you just show the chords, without the need to explain each finger position. People get too hung up on "playing exactly like it's recorded" If you were to ever actually go see any musician perform their own songs, they don't even play it as recorded. It's about the moment.
I’m glad you found my little "lesson" helpful. 🙂 I don’t have any musical education, so this is the easiest way for me to teach ..or more correctly SHOW what I’m playing. Thank you for your feedback! I appreciate it. 🙂
Hi dear Håkon, Congratulations for this superb cover that is really identical to the original. I love the slides notes you play on this music. A nice ballad that many guitarists will love to work I'm sure. Friendship and a hello to your nice companion on all fours. Phil
Thanks my friend! I´m glad you enjoyed it. :-) The slide-part is not on the original. I think I picked it up from an old live recording, and though it was kinda cool. :-) I wish you a nice weekend. Ulf says hi! :-)
really enjoying listening to you play these songs so beautifully and as a big a Tom waits fan I've been trying to pick things up, also listening to Madeleine Peyroux and her excellent renditions of his and other blues and jazz songs. Do you have any tabs and or things available to give a helping hand that can accompany the video lessons? Love your style and hope you're still putting out lovely renditions of these great songs
Thank you. 🙂 I’m sorry, but I don’t have any tabs. But you could try turn down the speed on the video. Hope that will help. Thank for the tip on Madeleine Peyroux. 🙂👍
Thank you. I´m glad you found it useful. :-) It´s a Martin DM Dreadnough. One of the cheaper models. But I really like the nice mellow sound. And I think it has just gotten better over the years. :-)
Make up your own pattern. It's not about copying someone else. If you play the chords, and get the feeling of the song floating through your fingers, you'll sound great.

Well you gassed her up behind the wheel
Got your arm around your sweet one in your Oldsmobile
Barrelin' down the boulevard
You're looking for the heart of Saturday night
And you got paid on Friday pockets are jinglin'
Then you see the lights you get all tinglin'
cause you're cruisin' with a 6
And you're looking for the heart of Saturday night
Then you comb your hair shave your face
Tryin' to wipe out every trace
Of all the other days in the week
you know that this'll be the Saturday you're reachin' your peak
Stoppin' on the red goin' on the green
'Cause tonight'll be like nothin' you've ever seen
And you're barrelin' down the boulevard
You´re lookin' for the heart of Saturday night
Tell me is the crack of the poolballs, neon buzzin?
Telephone's ringin'; it's your second cousin
Is it the barmaid that's smilin' from the corner of her eye?
Magic of the melancholy tear in your eye.
Makes it kind of quiver down in the core

And now you're stumblin'
You're stumblin' onto the heart of Saturday night
Well you gassed her up you're behind the wheel
With your arm around your sweet one in your Oldsmobile
Barrellin' down the boulevard,
You're lookin' for the heart of Saturday night
Is the crack of the poolballs, neon buzzin?
Telephone's ringin'; it's your second cousin
And the barmaid is smilin' from the corner of her eye
Magic of the melancholy tear in your eye.
Makes it kind of special down in the core
And you're dreamin' of them Saturdays that came before
It's found you stumblin' Stumblin' onto the heart of Saturday night
And you're stumblin' Stumblin onto the heart of Saturday night

So well played and taught. Many thanks Hakon! Which Martin are you playing?
Thank you. I´m glad you found it useful. :-) It´s a Martin DM Dreadnough. One of the cheaper models. But I really like the nice mellow sound. And I think it has just gotten better over the years. :-)
@@tanDlegen Okay, a mellow sound indeed
I really love how this sounds. I've been trying to figure out the pick pattern, but haven't been able to. Any chance you could post it?
