Stumbled upon this great review, Darryl! Those jpegs are gorgeous!! I agree, this lens is a keeper!🎯🎯📸
Sadly I sold my Summaron as it was not getting used much, I have a 28mm Summicron which is my fav lens. Looking forward to the TTArtisan 28mm vs 28mm Summaron video 😉
I agree …it’s stuck on my m10-r and wont come off!!!
Darryl, which 28 5.6? The TTArtisans or the Leica Summaron? Your reviews are awesome but your videos on these two gems left me in need of a definitive tiebreaker. Be Blessed, Doc Chaps
Hi Doc Chaps, best value for money has to be the TTArtisan, but I think the Summaron as the edge if the cost is not a problem😉
Did you then try the lens on the m6? btw thanks for this helpful review. I am thinking of getting a 28 and will choose between this and the elmarit asph
Yes I did, it’s a really nice lens. I would go for the Elmarit as the Summaron is a slow lens at first/5.6
Thanks for your informative video, it was a big help when I was considering buying the Summaron-M 28mm. Now that I have had a chance to use it am very glad I made the purchase. It has its own look you will not find elsewhere. The controls took a little time getting used to but now not a problem, I really like the large and very usable DOF scale. I do have a tip for anyone looking to put filters on this lens. I have a M8 in addition to my M10-P so was looking for a 34-39 filter adapter to allow using my UV/IR filter. B&H had the only one I could find, a Heliopan that is quite well made. I also want to use this lens on my M246 using B&W contrast filters.
Great little lens. I can see the appeal of it. Looking forward to seeing the M lenses on the S1R.
Yes very surprised about this lens, it does add something special to the images.
'I AM QUITE FUSSY THAT WAY' indeed, Why compremise, right? thats what makes us all unique. I got the M10 for its slimness, I love the M10-D even more cause it has no screen and that omition enhances its simplistic beauty even more, NOW if Leica could sink in the front mount flush to the rest of the body, that would be wonderful! When you use lenses like this - 28mm f5.6, 35mm summarons and 35mm elmars, you can see that the 2-2.5mm with which the mount sticks out seems that one is using small adapters on the system. With larger lenses this don't matter. Personally I own the 35mm f3.5 elmar and I LOVE it, the shape is just so cute looking.
Love all your reviews, thank you. I recently bought the TTArtisan 28mm f5.6 lens on Amazon for $328.00. I have to say the images from the TTArtisan lens are spectacular and aside from the included lens hood, which is gorgeous but in practical use an abomination, they rival your samples from the Summaron. I bought a screw-on lens hood for 10 bucks and put the supplied lens hood back in the box never to see the light of day again. I have a Leica M-P240 and this lens will probably be my favorite street lens. I wish it were possible to attach images to comments on here. Cheers.
Hey Hiram, I did a review on the TTArtisan 28mm a few weeks ago, awesome little lens and very good optics for the money
Excellent video and review!
I am not a Leica owner or user …..! Can’t afford a Leica and this excellent ‘minimalist’ lens - as I’m a pensioner! 😂
However, having seen your review of this lens, I have ordered the Leica ‘rip-off’; TT Artisan 28mm f3.5 but for Sony A6000 via Metabone Leica M - E Mount adapter, but equivalent focal length of 42mm. Looking forward to using this combination as EDC (Every Day Carry) camera for general ‘street photography’ and landscapes near my home location.
By the way …. just discovered your video channel, and excellent photography!
Nice - did you consider the 28mm Elmarit f/2.8? Only 10g heavier than the summaron.
Hi Jesper, the 28mm Elmarit is a little close to my 28mm Summicron. I was told the Summaron had a unique look to the images taken with it.
great review. love the photo in the subway. keep shooting.
Thanks Jaime
I just purchased one of these lenses. I am curious how did it perform on film? I am planning on using it with my m6ttl and mp-240 combo
Hi Robert, how are things going with the Summaron? It has a very unique character and so compact, its my go to lens when we have a nice bright day in New Zealand.
@@DarrylCarey I have not received it yet in the mail but should be here sometime mid week and I will let you know. I feel like I am going to love it.
Darryl, many thanks for this review of the Summaron lens. I really like the look and rendering, and you are a great photographer, I really appreciate your photos 👍🏻👍🏻
Can’t wait for the next video, cheers mate 😄👍🏻
😊 Thanks Ruud Kuiper, the next review will be on the 35mm f1.7 from Voigtlander.
Great video, as a Q2 owner I could only use it on my CL, but don`t know how it would perform. Could you share the ISO used and shutter speed ?
Super nice review, that lens is definitely super high on my wishlist. Would love to see its performance on the S1R.
Hi Florian, will be testing a few Leica mount lens on the S1R soon.
Amazing shots. Really thinking about getting this lens myself. And the pictures made me miss Taiwan where my family comes from. I spent all my summers there and the street photography there is incredible. Shot opportunities everywhere. Too bad covid prevented me from going this summer. Anyways, really liked the video!
Thanks Dylan, yes I miss Taiwan too. Been over a year from my last trip .. lets hope things get better in 2021
Great review. I am also contemplating between this lens and the 28mm f2.8. The price for this 28mm f5.6 is higher than the elmarit. This is definitely not a cheap f5.6 lens.
Hi Raymond, the 28mm f/2.8 is 2 stops better than the Summaron, which makes it much better in low light. I do not use the Summaron the lights starts to go, I will switch to my Summicron.
you took some great shots man
Thanks Noealz
Omg, those photo's look awsome! Yes there dark, yes they got a dark shade but thats so nice in these photo's 👍🏻👌🏻❤️
PimK, thanks it means a lot my viewers like my photos 😁
Swerved into your channel while looking for 28mm Leica lens options. Really nice images, love the subject matter you chose and your compositions. Those B&W SOOC JPGs ain't too shabby either.
Nice one Darryl! It's indeed a lovely lens, would love to get one but I already have the cron. 👻 About the 50/1.1... I am almost certain that you won't like it. It has a extremely busy bokeh and isn't that sharp. In my mind, the new 50/1.2 is a much better buy. But your mileage may vary. 👏 By the way... I have a Ryker bag since a couple of years now and I like it a lot!
Hi Robin, hope your well. The 50mm f/1.1 is a strange lens, a little to big for a Leica M 😭 But works will on the S1R 🤯. The Ryker is a nice bag, and the team from from Wotancraft are very helpful when I need info about their bags. How is the growing Leica family?
hi Robin, just rec'd your zines. 28 is a nice collection. looks like a major effort. props. nice cats!
Very nice. I have this lens too, but I'm also looking forward to your Voigtlander 1.1 review.
What camera do you use the lens on?
@@DarrylCarey Similar to you: An M10 and a Monochrom 246.
Nice, miss my 246 😢 Hope Leica make an M10 Monochrom
@@DarrylCarey I hope so. I love it. The M10 is perfectly sized, but the 246 is perfectly imaged.
amazing photos!
Thank you!
Nice review! Thanks
Hi Darryl, can you put a link for the bag please? :)

Thanks, you are right! Amazing bag! Thanx
Really nice Lens! And wonderful pictures with it.
A question from someone how has never been in Asia: Why do so many asian people wear a surgical Mask? Is the Air so bad in the cities? But these masks do not protect for smog. What might the reason be?
Hi Georg, nice to know you like the review 😁 I have always wondered about the masks as they are becoming more common in Taiwan. Personal I think they are for pollution and gems ... I could be wrong and they could just be a fashion thing , like when asian people wear glasses with no glass in the frames :)
@@DarrylCarey Yes fashion makes people do silly things ;-)
@@splootan Yes new situation nowadays… ;-)
Thoughts a year later?
100% worth the money, will do a followup review soon as I'm working on some reviews of other M mount lenses.
Nice video, man 🙂
Well, you seem to be having quite a big office room, it sounds like you are sitting amid a church ;)
NOT direct out of camera - been edited -process the sh88t out of them . out of camera are only raw files watched through ed soft with all profiles off and immediate sharpening and anti ca OFF as well .
