  • A technical deep comparison of the Xiaomi Mijia Mi Air Pump 2 and the Xiaomi Mijia Mi Air Pump 1s, also known as the Mi Air Compressor 2 and the Mi Air Compressor 1s. The Mi Air Pump 2 is marketed as a 25% faster unit with improved cooling, and in this video we take a look at whether this is true (it is!)
    In this video, the devices are disassembled and compared internally, then tested while monitoring voltage and current to determine power, efficiency, airflow, and more!

      Go on AliExpress and search for "curved screen disassemble tool" or "stainless phone disassemble" or similar and you'll see it

    Hello Larry,
    Congratulations for this excelent video.
    One question, this us actualy a Xiaomi product?, why do not appear the orange “mi” logo on the box, nor on the product?
    I just bought one of this in Aliexpres and just yesterday I received, having the doubt where I have been cheated giving me an good imitation.

    • @liminalsunset
      @liminalsunset  2 місяці тому +3

      the rounded M Mijia logo is a sub-brand of Xiaomi. Xiaomi usually only uses the orange logo for Xiaomi branded products and not the Mijia ones, similar to how Honor and Huawei are made by the same company but don't have the same logo

    Thank for great video. And after watching, I got an idea to mofify the pump by adding connector with a switch that can bring external ~8V DC source to motor pump (12~15V to 8V DC-DC conversion). That will save energy from internal battery and extend use for car/motorcycle on the field. Of course, initial pressure (e.a. from 0 to 30psi) will be manualy controlled for multiple tyres and final pressure (e.a. 32psi) will be by switcing to integrated battery and automatic stop when wanted pressure is reached. What is your opinion for that?

    • @liminalsunset
      @liminalsunset  2 місяці тому

      My opinion is that a better way to accomplish this would likely be to simply have a switch that allows you to power the device either from the battery or the external power source. This way all functions of the device are kept. As long as your external power source can supply 40 watts or so continuously, it will run fine. You should ensure that the battery is disconnected during this operation, as this charge rate is likely far too high for it.
      On the other hand, the battery power provided should be sufficient for most uses. As seen in the test, generally, charging for half an hour will be enough to fill one tyre of a car from empty.

      I think that disconnecting battery pack and external powering whole unit with pump voltage (7.4V or above) will destoy charging and mesauring part of device. Also, my opinion is that unit is charged by 5V and battery is leveling charged for every cell. So thats why I suggest to external power pump motor only. I didn't open and measure voltages of my unit and that is why I asked you for optnion. Anyway, thanks for fast answer.@@liminalsunset

      I believe it can not charge and pump at the same time, at least 1s can not

  • @RomboutVersluijs

    It would be so nice if they added an extra power port and extension cord, so you could run of day a car lighter system. I think for the form factor it's a pretty nest device. I'm bit familiar with this form factor, so perhaps and probably there are better ones

    • @liminalsunset
      @liminalsunset  2 місяці тому

      If I had to take a guess, the lack of a power port on the device is also intended to indirectly limit how long you can use the device at one time (i.e. to prevent overheating). It's possible that the device would burn out if you were to add this feature and operate it for an extended period of time.

    • @RomboutVersluijs
      @RomboutVersluijs 2 місяці тому

      @@liminalsunset but it then could easily have a timer or temp measurement, I'm just free balling. I understand this device has its limits die to its form factor. I think it's still a nifty device. I bumped into it today as a shop here on the island sells a 1s. But hen I noticed there is now a V2. That's got me googling and looking at reviews. I think I prefer the V2 and would order it online vs buying it locally

    Insimply van not understand why they can't out in a much bigger battery. I mean my phone already has 5k mAh how can this have just 2k?!

    • @RomboutVersluijs
      @RomboutVersluijs 2 місяці тому

      I guess the battery is 2kmah because it produces more amp vs a phone. I'm sorry for dumb question, I'm not really familiar with this kind of stuff

    • @liminalsunset
      @liminalsunset  2 місяці тому +1

      The reason for the capacity difference is that the batteries are two smaller ones in series, and in a phone there is effectively one larger battery in "parallel" so to speak.
      The amount of power stored is voltage times amp-hours. Thus, the battery in this device is actually equivalent to a 4000 mAh phone battery. The reason it is not 5000 mAh likely has to do with your other comment, because the power output (sustained) of these batteries is higher.
