I can understand why a two man patrol would be good in daylight recon less chance of being spotted. Carry light no packs, moving fast get in an out. Kirby,s bar to big and heavy, sarge probably told him leave it and grab a rifle. I do agree he shouldn't have forgotten his 45 not on patrols.

In Vietnam (my war), as it was also probably true in WW II, the radio operator had no friends. Any enemy sniper worth his salt would always gun the guy closest to the RTO as he would be a leader (squad leader, platoon leader). Also, I never went out on a two-man patrol. You never sent less than a squad out.
Doesn't Saunders usually carry a sidearm .45? It sure would have come in handy here. I'll bet that he remembers to never leave home without it in the future.
Great show! I watched every episode when I was a kid. But my dad to me that German soldiers didn't set themselves up to be shot so easily in a fire fight like sometimes in this TV show.
+Bob Cabo Not likely. See the previous episode, Silent Cry, where Kirby is carrying his trusted sidekick, BAR, and a radio. I think his BAR is in the shop in need of an oil change, and 15K round service. LOL. or maybe, just maybe, the Prop man forgot to bring the BAR on location.
My mother grew up in a German speaking household -- her parents had migrated to the US as newlyweds in 1910. She translated the German for us. That wasn't hot, but it was useful.
Great to see Saunders skewer that rolly polly Nazi vermin! Cage is the best with a shank but sarge can get the job done too! +PatriotNC1 haha yeah I was wondering about that. Maybe just for the part where the krout breaks his weapon. Too bad it wasn't your stupid AK's
+John Lau He was carrying the radio too. Too much weight. But, how is it that Saunders didn't have his sidearm with him.
Oh shut up already!!!
Sergeant Saunders is a lot like Chuck Norris. Even if he is out of ammo you should be afraid of him, very afraid...
He was the only one who can do with the Thompson and the right size for the part. RIP Vic Morrow!
TOTALLY!!! LOVE YA VIC!!!
Every night, Norris checks under his bed for Vic.
This episode could have ended fifteen minutes sooner had Saunders remembered to bring his .45
I was thinking the same thing, doesn't he always have his .45 with him??
+agent3857 The script writers wanted this episode to be one of cunning and guile.
@@k6151960 yeah he always had the 45 and rarely ever had a canteen...
But then it would have ended 15 sooner!!!!
@@kathymcmahon6582 i like your sense of humor.
He was also on the original star trek "The Man Trap"
We watched in college and one the students in the dorm would translate the German for us. It was a hot!
The hunter would have been a more worthy opponent if he would have had wings too, just sayin! Old hunters don't bounce to well as we all saw! Chalk up another one for the Sarge!
Who's the zipperhead ?
You bet. Love me my Sargent 😁😁😁
Vic Morrow was every bit the brave man he portrayed
41:25--"Achtung! I am Wile E. Coyote, SOOPER genius..."
Based on Saunders experience he should have cleared the tower....that was a basic fundamental mistake which could have got him and Kirby killed.
I agree, that was rookie mistake. What were the writers thinking. Makes Saunders look like a PVT.
But to have searched it would have killed the writers idea! ;
@@horacesubayar794 it was in the script
One of my favorite episodes!!!!
I agree. For a hunter, he continually gives away his position with constant talking and yelling.
Vic morrow well best actor
6:55 that shot totally reminds me of the train depot in Medal of Honor Frontline.
Very good and nice ever great movie it bring me back to my old days t you

Lakso wrote some great screenplays.
Yep, but this wasn't one of them.
Grew up watching this show,
Saunders should of held on to that germans knife . I always carry a knife always
'Saunders should have held on to the German's knife.I always carry a knife;always!'
Could have/Could've.
Should have/Should've.
Would have/Would've.

B🇧🇧 dos
Ol' Sarge sez: "Always carry yer combat knife or bayo...ya never know when there's gonna be cheesecake...or someone who really needs stabbin'."
Also L J Gibbs: "Never go anywhere without a knife!"
One of my best episodes liked the way it ended just crash the gate no music.
Should have charged when the guy was dragging Kirby, hard to shoot a rifle when it is strapped to your shoulder.
I thought the same thing
True, but it would have made for a very short episode!
I think the odd way he was holding Kirby's head was to imply he would snap his neck if rushed.
This is true but then the show would be over
Everybody needs to remember scriptwriters wrote this story...if they had checked the tower first the story would not be a story at all...
COMBAT, what more can you say!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Well, well well - - - so much for all of the complaints that Sarge never runs out of ammo LOL
Shame, shame, that you would ever think that the Sarge would ever run out of ammo. His gun just jammed
If I were in the squad, I'd stick close to Lt. Hanley, Sgt. Saunders, or Kirby.
Saunders and Kirby then Hanley for surw!!!
Saunders always has his 1911
Sarge catch a body in damn near every episode!
Those are the San Gabriel mountains in the background
Those are the San Bernardino Mountains. The San Gabriel's are further west.
Cucamonga Peak and Mt Baldy.
I want to give that jerry a good slap.
Slap that Jerry with a jerry can!!
懐かしい、時代の映画です。
Good question. I was asking the same thing.
On another note, Ryder is intense in this role!
damn sarg he was calling on the radio when you called him out just to get shot. lol jus saying.
I thought Sargent Saunders carried a Colt 1911 for a backup.
Xx
Great edit!!!
Kirby knows better than to carry personal info on him, into combat.
Maybe something happened earlier in the episode but where is Saunders 1911?
Sargeant Sounder was a brave army and wisely leader, he followed the order from Leutenant Jason.
when sarg picks up the binoculars,,,the kraut gives the ok sign,,,lol
