I love the realistic sound and smoke.
You had Me going for a second, I thought You had some old SP footage. I was a Conductor on the Southern Pacific which is now Union Pacific. I worked on the Flangers, the spreaders, and the rotary on the Donner Summit in the Sierra Mountains. Good times and We plowed a lotta snow. I retired in 2016 with 50 years.
Awesome man! I’m also a conductor, on the KCS. I still have 29 years to go haha. Congratulations on the retirement...enjoy!
@@jrrailroad7631 Love my C&NW GP 7 and my UP GP 7 both USA trains .
Had me fooled..lol but bad conductor no forward headlamps
@@vincentdow5899 Of course I remember Fermenes and Bar of America on the corner,(Shut that place down a few times). We had a cabin at Donner Lake and always partied in Truckee and of course Tahoe and Squaw. We use to go to Tahoe City every fourth of July for the fireworks best ever.
@@carlstclair9920 NOBODY FUCKING CARES DUDE
Haha!, the little engines that could! The smoke and the realistic sounds made me really smile! Shopping online for a GP-9 right now. :-)
Can you still get it in SP?
OOh I’m interested
@@arlenes.4590 I don't think so, at least not new from a hobby shop.
@@Twister051 hard to believe that the SP-Cotton Belt railroad of the 1990's the largest railroad at the time is personna non gratis among the train manufactures of today in large scale model rr
Very neat. I like the layout of the tracks. I am a fan of N- gauge but always liked the bigger stuff as well, thanks.
I don't model G scale, but very nice detail in the 2 locos. I'm really surprised at the size to weight ratio that it moved that wet snow without too much trouble. Bet that would look awesome in 3 inches of dry powder at a scale 30 mph! Nice job
Very nice. Looks like that maybe hard on the track to spin the wheels while sitting in one place.
Impressive power.
Brilliant was hoping once done the hard lap clearing the snow we’d see it blast round freely and fast. Being it’s powerful
Man, I'm five years old again watching this! Excellent!
I've always been curious if people set up garden railways in climates like mine, and what they did in the winter.
Now I know.
great vid! very refreshing, rather watch this all day than the crappy news
I can sit there all day and just see how it goes around the track. Love it
This brings back memories of when i was 12, In Davis California, watching SP(with exact same locos) switch cars at the Hunts Factory. I too thought this was real for a second! WELL DONE!!! amazing!
NICE!!
REMINDS ME OF THE PLOW VIDEOS OF THE KYLE RR IN COLORADO AND WESTERN KANSAS!!
They struggled, but cleared the line. Very nicely done.
Love the sound.
Nice patriot God Bless you sir thank you for showing your art
Awesome video... I just picked up number 3838 Southern Pacific GP9 USA train's engine... i love it
Love the smoke. And how it smokes more when the engine is speeding up. WOW can't get over it ♥️♥️
SP GP and SD7`s and 9`s are my favorite locomotives!.... I think you need a rotary snowplow though.....
I love when engine struggles but still moves on.
Fantastic vid...try Pan Spray on the plow. As a retired professional from New England, we sprayed all our blades on Wet Snow day’s. Worked well.
I thought it was a real scale train! Great attention to detail! That's awesome!
Two Thumbs Up! Very realistic and enjoyable.
HO scale (and other scales): "When not in use on the meticulously maintained railroads, these gem locomotives shall be kept safe in a glass display case."
G scale: "Ooh it snowed! Time to try out the new snowplow I built!"
How weatherproof are these models? I know they are intended for outdoor use, but I would assume only on nice days, intended to be brought inside when the weather is bad. How tolerant and resistant are they to snow and moisture?
The locomotives always come in after using them. I wouldn’t want water getting on the circuit boards inside the hoods. I wouldn’t run them in the rain at all but I’ve seen guys do it. The rolling stock is fine though. I’ve left a couple tanker cars out on the layout year round as an experiment and they were totally fine. I talked to a lady who keeps all her cars outside year round, to be weathered naturally by the sun and elements. Thanks.
@@jrrailroad7631 I have a question kinda related to the other person's question, partially because my cousin has this scale of trains, but how you maintain them in the snow like this? I mean, aren't the wheels and rails metal, electrified, and supposed to be kept dry? I don't really know because I don't run this size, and I don't run my other scales outside. Sorry.
@@trainlover0315
Simple - rainwater isn't a good conductor since it lacks the dissolved compounds that typically make groundwater conductive, and the same goes for snow. As long as you have proper drainage there's no risk of a short due to water.
Brilliant! I too thought it was a bit of unusual but full-size aerial camera shots of the real thing . . . until the garden bench came into view!
I love the old high nose. Nice video.
Getting bogged down is half the fun and makes for a more realistic experience. How much fun would that be getting to play trains outside in the snow. I want an outdoor set up.
That is SO cool! 😁👍
Love the sound effects!
An excellent video. I love the natural weathering job my locomotives and rolling stock get when they are outside. Hello from the Tracy Mountain Railway in Colorado. ♡ T.E.N.
Next time, spray some silicon spray lube on plow, snow will slide right off!
Silicone not silicon
Was thinking same thing
@@snyderman001 Oh well, made a mistake but you get the idea.
@@billconserva1461 I was agreeing with you; don't care about the spelling.
porkbuttrocks ,twit.
Wow amazing, discovered the channel today and it is epic
You made me wanting to push with the engines. Amazing footage. Thank you
Awesome training, "G" scale plowing snow for real. Cheers!
Nice winter video.
Hornhausen I’m glad you enjoyed it. Danke!
Very cute but the reality is, ironically, that few railroads were as adept at dealing with snow as the Southern Pacific. Think miles and miles of snowsheds in the Sierra and the the great AC steam locomotives built for the tunnels and snowsheds there, massive rotary plows pushed by steam locomotives, locomotives motives fitted with their own plow blades for light to moderate accumulations, etc. In full scale that depth of snow would be no big deal on rhe SP.
I'm old enough to have seen GP-7 and -9 operating in So. Cal. as well as AC and GS class steam locomotives and the beautiful little SP steam switchers in action.
Loved those AC's probably more than the Big Boys!
@@railroad9000 Me too!
So fun to watch. Thanks for posting
I dunno if anybody makes a G scale powered rotary plow, but that would be an outstanding addition to the rolling stock.
That was "cool" to watch. Thanks for sharing. I liked the video
Nice video. There was a Railserve LEAF (RSSX 3838) in the area that was rebuilt from ex-SP 3838 GP9.
May be wrong as I often am about model railroads but wouldn't the plow work a lot better if the face of the plow were lubricated with WD40 or even waxed with a quality ski wax?
Sound and air.....gave me chillls well done !
Snow is something I don’t have to worry about on my railroad. Thanks from Orlando Florida.
Do you put diesel on the loco damm that was powerfull
Hi.. l've been enjoying watching your Geep's trying to tackle that wet snow. However l'd like to Suggest spraying Teflon on the Wedge. None Sticky Right?~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is awesome! The sounds are great its as if someone shrunk two locomotives and put them in a yard. Very realistic
Great work...Epic images...Respect for your work...Big like & subscribe from Romania
Thanks. You are my 1001 subscriber.
Haha so cute. Real snow too. I was wondering what trick you used to make it look like real snow until I realized it was outside. By the way, something a lot of model guys make the mistake of when shooting their rigs -- keep the camera at ground level to accentuate the realism. Then it will look huge and powerful like the real thing instead of like a model.
Awesome video. Thank you
Really satisfying.. thanks
Maybe try spraying a little bit of WD-40 on the plow blade. It should keep the snow from sticking and make it roll the snow up away from the track better.
Awesome video
The best part is they sound just like a real GP9 in notch 8.
Need another GP9
This loco is very beautifull 👍😱😘👌
Espee Geeps with a DR plow? They must have picked it up in interchange @ East Colton...
Really you make real world good job
You'll need one of those 12lb 4 motor Lionel Gp20's this year ;)
That's a Great setup! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💪💪🏻💪🏿🐘🐘🐘
Oh, saxophone. BIG BRASS SAXIFRASS.
AWESOME VIDEO!!
Friggin models, I thought it was odd that there were still engines with SP markings. Nice setup...the thumbnail looked real.
The thumbnail is real.
Why not. In 1996 the SP was Americas largest railroad. They ran Cotton Belt too. Red and grey, never fades away.
It does say G Scale in the thumbnail caption.
What would happen if you used 'PAM' on the wedge of the plow ? Would it push through the snow better ?
Awesome just so awesome i love this video im from Wyoming and we know snow and trains ...but this is just so cool ... No pun intended
Totally awesome... Only way it could even get better is if it had a blower with real light fluffy snow!
You need a little vegetable oil on your plow so the snow will roll off.
Gerald Roth good idea
Excellent project with astounding detail! It certainly looks real enough for a movie-prop. Well done!!-
supercat380 thanks.
I don't model train although I like to watch some of these. Every full size train that I see with a plow set up is usually going rather fast to begin with. So the momentum helps. That would not work with a model? The Pam on the plow sounded like a good idea also.
Maybe a G scale rotary snow blower ?
Wow that is so cool I love trains so much
When you have snow up to your roof a blade plow just won't do .
That's when you need a rotary snow plow .
I once saw a video of someone who made a G Scale rotary plow. I recall it used a cordless drill motor and battery, seemed quite effective. I would worry that the concept might not scale all that well, especially with wet snow, it might clog up and jam, but would still be really cool.
@@quillmaurer6563 actually there are 2 working g scale rotary plows out there.
Watch how CNR and cp does it a long line of so 40's loco's 25,000 hp sd40's workhorse still
pretty cool. next try one of those snow blowers.
That is absolutly badass my g
That is just Cool
Literally. Cheers!
Hola soy de Perú muy hermosa locomotoras en que parte de usa están saludos Juan Carlos
This is awesome 😁
Cool setup
I wish the dcc/sound card makers would get the acceleration right. Loco's do not start accelerating like this BEFORE the prime mover revs up. Surely it can't be that hard to put in a delay in throttle response so the sound card can do its thing before the loco begins moving off?
Can't wait to get me one of those USAT GP9s.
Normal Teens: Gonna buy me some new gucci.
Me: *T R A I N S*
Amazing!!!
Super krása 👏 🙌 👍
Find some sort of lubricant to apply on the plow, it's a old trick we use in the real world to keep snow from sticking to snow plow equipment. Some of us use silicone, some of us use wd-40, others have simply used vegetable oil, many different things work, just gotta find what works best for you, it's best to apply what ur gonna be using to the equipment when both the plow and the lube is cold so its adhesion is under the conditions it will be used in.
Great job
3:34 looks like a real train
technically it is , cuz , ya know , its in real life , but I know what you ment , actual full size trains used by companys
Holy crap it does!
Wow that is nice, I wish I have one so I can make that as a video.
Hey
Thanks for sharing.
Does the train getd any damage from the snow after a longer time?
Best regards from a H0 Märklin UA-camr
Nope, everything seems to be fine! Thanks
hey now that is a really cool. I almost expected to see tiny little men come out of the train in engineer suits and wave little lights at me. At that point I would have checked into "the home"🤯🤯🤯
You almost need three or four engines powering that plow!
Snows kinder high to scale , don't ya think
Joe .
That was fun to watch. You guys got a bit more snow yesterday than we did. Where's Zuki?? LOL
Thanks. No dogs today, too cold!
If you through the USA Train Big Boy at that it would just go right through on it's own, no plow.
Gotta throw some pam on that plow.
I was faked out twice, at first a real train, next I thought maybe someone was having fun by putting powder sugar on their model railroad. That was a good one.
THATS SO COOL!!
Literally.
Looks like fun!
Where u get these engines at that so bad ass
Michael Lindsay there are several online retailers. I choose to do business mostly with Mike and Renee at reindeerpass.com...nice folks. The engines are made by USA Trains but have had some upgrades done to them. Thanks.
Nope , you're going to need some CP sd40-2s and a Jordan spreader for that depth of snow
*he says as the train managed to finish the whole line*
He needs the big gun, (rotary).
Love it! Way cool!
I thought this was going to be a real train I’m not disappointed are the engines waterproof do you leave them outside year-round or do you take them in if you do take them in how heavy are they
They are water resistant...I keep them inside when I’m not running them to protect the electronics from moisture and fragile parts from damage from the elements. They aren’t that big like 10 or 15 pounds each I can grab one in each hand.
So does water in general affect how well the trains run?
Love those Smoking loco's! I do have to ask, are those running on track power, or internal batteries? If they are on track power, they are doing pretty good for all that snow on the tracks.
I converted these loco’s from track power to run on 14.6 volt lithium-ion batteries that are mounted inside. Thanks.
@@jrrailroad7631 If I were still running G scale in my yard, I would probably use onboard power. Trying to keep the track clean in an outside layout is a tough job. I was also running live steam in my yard, but I have since got out of G scale, and sold all of my equipment, my yard was just too small. I now only focus on my HO scale indoor layout.
Would adding a third engine help?
