Shipwrecks are Op though. If I’m near an ocean early game, I’m getting a bed and a boat and a door and going for treasure.
You could transform the island in a sort of venice-like place, or a floating houses village, like a whole city built on the water around the island
Hey wattles I've give this suggestion since 1st episode but I'll write it again..
Get kelp and cook it for easy food resource, you can also make it a block and you get a big fuel source for furnace
Also you can make a door for air pocket instead of a magma block

I started my own survival island to play along with the series, but I ended up way far ahead so now I can't wait to see the differences between my and Wattles' worlds.
If you want to put rocks on the shore, I highly suggest putting some stone buttons around. They are smaller and look way better than just the slabs.

Water can reach tilled dirt up to four blocks away in a 9x9 square. Not trying to bust your chops, just trying to help. Also, one more thing: if you want more dirt, you can combine dirt with gravel and make coarse dirt which is just dirt that has to be tilled or shoveled to be turned normal. Two dirt and two gravel, putting them in opposite corners of a 2x2. One last thing, a shield is a must.
Maybe you can grab those mushrooms in the nether for more food source.

I think if you added maybe some lanterns hanging from posts it would make the garden look a little more polished.

As for a challenge, what about making a boat, and or dock, next to your island for storage and safety? But you can only use blocks found in the nether to build it!
I used the seed and used creative to terraform the island a bit. I'm building an underground base with parts of it coming out underwater.

You should try and make a lava farm if you're able to find any dripstone caves. Or just collect lava and smelt a lot of stuff up at a time to help with the coal issue. Also you should collect all the dirt around and create a giant platform that can grow into grass blocks to try and get more passive mobs

When the mechanic was in the game where logs lasted longer in a furnace, it was still more beneficial to burn planks as logs definitely werent 4x more efficient, therefore making the whole strategy backwards from the get go, planks have always been the way forward

Love it Wattles. You know another totally intended game mechanic you should use? Chest boat.

I recommend building a spider spawner a little ways off the island. Simple build a square platform leave 1 block of space before building a second platform out of half slabs. Row your boat up and kill all the spiders then row away a distance and repeat. At least you will get a bed out of it. Maybe make a regular mob farm on the other side of the island so you can go back and forth between them.
Don’t Piglins in the nether sometimes give string? Maybe you could use those trades to get enough to make a bed.

Btw, use campfires to farm charcoal! One campfire can drop between 2-4 (usually 4) charcoal at the cost of only 1 charcoal!
Yes, but you also have to use 3 logs, each of which could be smelted into charcoal.

You should build a birch (sad I know) and bamboo wood, and quartzwith bright windows. Imagine the yellowy white combo. Maybe add the green bamboo too
House I meant, like a modern design
I decided last week to try this same seed to see how I'd prefer to do things. I started with flattening the whole island to sea level, and had enough dirt to replace all the sand, and then started farming trees, made fences and torches to light up and fence off the whole island, then farmed the animals that spawned. I couldn't sleep for the first 18 Minecraft days because of so few sheep spawning, but I got a bed eventually. I started off with my home 4 blocks below sea level, just under the soil, but later used the stone I mined out from under the island to build a home above the ocean off to the east of the island. I still haven't found lava to make obsidian to make a nether portal yet, though.

I'm playing this seed and there are plenty of ship wrecks around. I've found glow lichen really helpful for seeing better since it can be placed under water.
For food on the island, I got lucky and a chicken decided to spawn there on like day 3. Otherwise it was gonna be all bread and fish for a while.
I'm die'n over here to that nether spawn! I put my portal in the exact same spot! It was brutal, but piglin trading's usefulness cannot be over stated here. String=wool=bed!
**Challenge** That Nether trip was pretty sweet! The only criticism will also be framed as a challenge..... craft and learn how to use a shield...... please?!?!? Watching being hit over and over by almost every Nether mob was painful especially knowing that you could loose such a potentially awesome world at any moment. 😓

Love the series! You need to make wool out of string and make a bed!😰
Why not make a shelter below the farm to avoid phantom and then transfer most of the dirt below on top to create grass lands for more "food" mobs to spawn. Make less guides and more game plays. You shine in such adventure, because you're probably one of the best players out there, and you're also a top tier builder like the Hermits.
Actually, I'm a bedrock player, but I love your work (even though it's java) more than the bedrock creators.
Start harvesting kelp. You can use it as food and fuel.
I use the composter like my villagers do - as a toilet. They always seem to be standing or in the composter that makes it look like they are enjoying a bit of nature while taking care of business
Since Planks can smelt 1.5 items each, you can use 2 planks to smelt 3 Logs.
I am playing the same seed. I got a single sheep… I made a large green area but got no other mobs. Looking forward to seeing what you do next.
Idea for building on the island maybe build docks coming off the island to save space like a cool raised cabin for your house

Wattles you have two wither heads. The only challenge is to get the third, and spawn the wither on the 100th day. It is the perfect end to your world
You can add signs on the sides of the benches to make them even more comfortable
You can make wool from 4 pieces of string and make a bed that way, so in a way a mob farm could be very helpful

Hey wattles you know when I said I tried to do the same island thing? I actually ended up restarting till my bonus chest came with dark oak saplings because that’s my favorite wood type.
Challenge idea: do a little enchanting maby find a skeleton spawner and build an xp farm.

You should put leaves around the base of your mob farm so that it looks like a really big tree

Really enjoying this series, I am wondering why you don't use kelp for food and fuel sources though? They can be cooked on the campfire like the fish so no need to waste wood or charcoal. Also if you eat only kelp for 3 minecraft days you will also get an achievement. I think it's 3 days, but you have to only eat cooked kelp for the castaway achievement.
Isn't that an xbox(bedrock only) achievement? Those don't exist in the Java version. 🤔
