Very inspiring, especially for those of us a bit older and needing to decrease the amount of care. I especially love the way she had used terracing with retention walls and stacked rock to draw the eye up and out, giving the illusion of greater space. Thank you!
I so enjoyed this garden tour and thanks for sharing it with us! It really demonstrates how you can fit all kinds of plants in a smaller space. I loved all the variety, color and texture of plants and the little decorative touches, too. I hope this sweet lady and her husband have many more years to enjoy spending time with friends and family, making memories in this beautiful garden they've created.🌷
Many thanks to Janie for being brave enough to share her lovely garden. It's an inspiration to those of us who are drawing near to the time when we will have to 'downsize' ... not only our home but our treasured garden as well.
Janie and Bill’s garden is just beautiful! I loved all the draping juniper! Juniper does well here in NM so I’m definitely going to incorporate some of that in my back yard on the slope…I loved how she doesn’t have a lot of blooming plants but her choice of shrubs and columnar trees are perfect plus the addition of using bright blue pottery throughout the courtyard 💚…Thank you Linda and Stewart for showing us the best examples of minimalism or maximalism gardening💚💚…
I am also a courtyard gardener... I have managed to build a used brick fireplace on the back wall, a real brick bar b que . I have a round iron dining table and chairs with a hanging iron candle holder over it... and tons of plants .. a potting bench... and all of this in a space 20 feet by 25 ft. Everyone calls it my secret garden. I have been in my house for 50 years , and this is my sanctuary.
My husband has been sweet enough to go with me and dig up all the plants my neighbors don't want and bring them home for me! Peach trees, raspberries, even roses!🌹
Oh my, how BEAUTIFUL! I love the layers of flowers and trees...what a magical place! One of my absolute favorite things in her garden is the 4 season statues. They are just so charming! This was for sure a gardener's Heaven! Thanks for a wonderful watch! What a great way to start my day! Sending you and Stewart much love and blessings...
Lovely garden, lovely people. I appreciate the smart curation of plants, such as the columnar and smaller trees that add a key dimension to the garden. ❤
Absolutely spectacular, creative and magical garden. Loved the way plantings, hardscape and artistic touches all view together seamlessly. Even though it was crammed full it doesn't look at all cluttered. Truly a work of art.
Janie is a sweetheart!!! As we age its so important to know that when we downsize we can garden in small spaces. I'm far from that chapter in my life but will remember this video when the time comes.
Hi Linda Stewart and Janie Congratulations on cultivating a stunning small garden. Many of the plants you have there I can grow in 7a New York. Very helpful tips especially on the Russian sage. Nice to see that Janie appreciates trees even in a small space. So many people cut great big trees down here and on estate properties with nothing but expansive lawns. It’s devastating to watch. Even the town cuts a lot of trees down instead of doing what you do which is to top them off. Love the espalier work you do. It’s hard to do. I’m trying it now with my woody vines. Love the season angels! Two beautiful ladies in a beautiful garden. Inspiring video! I love that blouse Janie is wearing. Would like to see this garden again in Spring! Tough camera work today bc there was so much to see without making the viewer dizzy. Nice job on that Stewart!
Thank you Janie and thank you Linda and Stewart. Janie you have made the absolute most of your outdoor space. It is delightful. It was a real pleasure to visit you 🤗👏Love from England 🦋🐞🐝
Hi Linda and Janie! What a great tour! This garden is really beautiful....you could just investigate one plant after another! Love all the garden decorations, pots, hanging decor...love them all! You ladies look lovely too! Thank you for sharing your garden and inspiring us!
Lovely garden, Linda. It’s magical. So interesting to see what can be artistically done in such a small space. They have a lot in that space, but it is relaxing and inviting. Thank you for sharing.
Mrs. Dupree, your garden is heavenly! Elegant and yet very relaxing! The textures you have are brilliant! My favorites are the plants draping down the retaining walls! Would love to see the Rising Sun Redbud in the spring! I'm so glad you showed the espaliered magnolias! It has given me an idea to try some cape plumbago on a similar type structure!
This garden is fabulous! There are ordinary plants like the magnolias displayed in different ways. The plant placement is spot on. There is so much to look at. Thank you for sharing this beautiful garden, and thanks to Janie and Bill.
It's wonderful you have a neighbor that enjoys sharing your planting on the shared fence! Me, not so lucky! But they don't complain. I just try accommodate them
I wish the lady of the house could talk more about how she did things in her garden. It is nice to hear you but it is always nice to hear how the homeowner did things along the way.
Really a lovely space - I like how they stacked the stone along the wrought-iron fence - much like a "toe-kick". Very unique looking. Love the mini-Boston ivy, too! What nice friends, and thank you for our tour!!
Q #2...Looks like the grass I have - switchgrass, maybe 'Northwind' - in Janie's pot (?) I really enjoy the look of the flagstone pavers with gravel too! It's such a charming courtyard garden, love the use of herbs, russian sage, etc!
Hi Linda, Janie is such a sweetheart!! I just! love what she and Bill did with their small yard. So cozy and inviting. What is it about gardeners that make them so sweet and interesting to talk to? So glad you introduced her to us! Hi Stewart! Have a wonderful day and I will see you in the next one! :)
The small plant , I believe is a Farfugium, (Ligularia tussilaginea). The tall stem of buds will soon be bright yellow flowers that beneficial insects will enjoy during the fall. Some people call these Tractor Seats because they resemble them.
How refreshing to see a Mexican chimenea. So beautiful and much better than the horrid (in my opinion) fire pits which are way to smokey for an urban environment. Nice to see you out and about visiting other gardens. Thank you, Linda.
Thank you so much for showing this tucked away garden. It was so uplifting, and yes here in Pennsylvania the red bud grows wild in the wood lands and we take spring drives to see its display….
Hello Linda! Thank you for a wonderful walk. Your friend's garden is fabulous. I came up with a few ideas for myself. Good luck and health to all👌🌻🐦😊❤️
Such a beautiful garden. Her use of a small space is incredible and she has such an artistic eye for the perfect placement of each plant...
I totally agree!
Very inspiring, especially for those of us a bit older and needing to decrease the amount of care. I especially love the way she had used terracing with retention walls and stacked rock to draw the eye up and out, giving the illusion of greater space. Thank you!
What a beautiful courtyard garden she's created. It's invitingly magical.
Janie is a true artist💗 I love her garden and her style. Incredibly unique. Thank you for the tour, Linda!

My new favorite garden video! Wonderfully inspiring!
Pro tip: get a plant identification app for your phones. It's so handy for IDing things including weeds! I use Picture This.
A fascinating conversation between two garden loving women, knowledge is passed on,shared❤️
