There never were any imitators of Dwight trying to copy his voice or music. No one even tried because it would be impossible ONE OF A KIND is an understatement.
He was nominated for a Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for this song. He should have won, hands down. A true work of art, it stands up to the test of time. Dwight truly is "one of the immortals, hiding in plain sight. The lyrics, his voice: legend." I wonder what would happen if we all called/emailed/texted our favorite radio stations and requested this song. Maybe it would finally get the recognition it deserves...
Dwight Yoakam music is played in our house everyday..He is Country Music ! I love this song..My Husband and I seen him in Santa Fe,N.M...Blame The Vain ! What great songs ..That was GREAT! Thank You,for all your wonderful songs !
Even one of the best rock performers. I've seen him live, and that's one hard-rocking rockabilly band. Check out the "Fast as You" and "Intentional Heartache" videos. And a great producer of his own records and videos.
He's one of the BEST hands down County Singers in the world. He didn't put up with people treating him like crap in Nashville, recognizing what a great preformer he is.
@Dwight Yoakam🎵 Hi Dwight have loved us from the very first time I saw ya on CMT and heard Guitars and Cadillacs. Wished I would have gotten to see ya. Oh and buy the way love watching ya just as much as I love listening to ya. You're a keeper.
100% Agree with you. He is Easy on the eyes that's for sure. Would love to go see him live. They say he's a great concert to go to. He's a legend that's for sure.
Watching Dwight perform this song in this video is a totally different experience from just simply "listening" to it. He can be seen throwing everything he's got into this song...emotionally speaking, that is. He shows pain, grief, and sorrow in such a "raw" way and does it beautifully. Well done, Dwight.
It's rare for an artist to keep putting out such original music after so many years on top. One thing I like about Dwight is he doesn't do cookie cutter music. It's so refreshing.
He's the Honky Tonk Man for sure. The stuff you listen to when you're in some smoky old hole in the wall, sitting alone at a bar after a life's had its way with you.
Yoakam is possibly the most eclectic artist I've ever heard. No style he can't do. Love the horns, producer Pete Anderson's guitar licks, B-3 organ work by Skip Edwards. Strait up Southern Soul from a Kentucky born "Country" legend!
Not just one of DY's best songs but one of the best songs, period!!!! the musicality, the half notes, the vocals, the lyrics - just an amazing composition from every aspect.
I agree totally. Why didn't this song get a lot better acclaim? It certainly deserved it! He got a standing ovation when he sang it on stage on a special a number of years ago.
Dwight truly, truly sings with feeling & I think that is what makes him a 'stairway' (not just a step) above the other country singers. Give us LOTS MORE Dwight!!!
I only heard this song once, probably on some country music channel while flicking through, years ago. I loved it then and it has always been with me, it struck such a chord with me. The lyrics and the emotions it stirs mean so much. I guess that's why we all love music, whatever your own favourites are there's always a crossover point where you can find the meaning you need in a song of any category. Thanks for the post. Love to all 😀
This is one of my all time favorites. I loved it when it first came out. Now 20 some years later I can relate so much. Who knew that I'd be livin those words. Dwight is a #1 entertainer. He's never got the credit or accolades he deserves. Love ya Dwight! ❤️❣️
Everyone has a opinion....many of DWIGHTS songs get defined as not COUNTRY....even back then.....MANY have been defined as ROCK A BILLY...or BAKERSFIELD sound..etc...or in your case memphis soul... .Dwights music is like no other....that is for sure. So call it what you want.. .BUT this song was played on "country radio stations"..was put on the COUNTRY BILLBOARD CHARTS.... and the VIDEO your watching was televised on the channel "Country Music Television" or CMT for short... . So you can call it whatever you want or wish.....doesnt change the facts... ... And, what is the MUSIC that is played on country radio today....? Whats that called??? I say most is generic...it is S.H.I.T...music.. Because..it isnt even close to this...OR the sound of ANY country music of the 80s and 90s...many country songs today sound like morphed RAP... and that is the point.....that....I WAS making to begin with....READ IT AGAIN....
Dwight has done so many styles of country and flirted with rock and did his own takes on the country greats of the past. I hear a little Motown in this one. He’s a unique artist.
I was introduced to the old country by my Dad and then listened to a new country and went back to the old country. My son says in the pubs eventually on comes the Dwight Yoakam songs no matter what and every one gets up and dances or sings along.
My heart melts when chords play @ :34-35...omg I love this melody!!! And then at the end when he whispers sexy....I couldn't change your heart.....Dwight you're AWESOME!
I'm from Kentucky n this is my truest songwriter composer singer musician artist period we love this man. Words fail me to describe all the emotions he can instill in his music n those who love him.
Yoakam is one of a kind & in, my mind, brilliant. Dig the horns, Skip Edwards on the B-3 organ, the Al Green like percussion, & Pete Anderson's production, arrangement, & guitar work!
"you didn't try to hear, you didn't try to see, you just stared right through the teardrops like there was nothing left of me" Reminds me of Easter 2011 when I went up to the altar to pray to save my family, I bawled like a baby, and her cold heart just stared right through the tears like there was nothing left of me :(
Been looking for the video for 10yrs. Knew it was him but didn't remember the song. All I know was he keep moving the mic back and forth to the music. So here I am in 2024 finding it. ❤
I've been a fan of Dwight for many many many years and although I've heard tons of other singers none can compare to Dwight I always turn to him for my music
This man has a lot of songs that remind you of how when and why everything could and will go sideways take my advice and tell the best thing in your life that need and want them everyday and when and if you or them stumble no matter how bad to an extent always be there to help them up always
great song! love that he sort of broke that "country mold" with this song... don't get me wrong, LOVE LOVE LOVE all his songs, but this one was just a bit different, in a good way...
If this song would've came out 5 or 6 years later in the 2000s instead of the 90s I think it would've been bigger. It was too modern and too classic r&b influenced for it's time. A real shame it wasn't a top 10 hit.
One of country's most underrated artists.
This song is criminally underrated
Feel the same way. While i like about everything ive ever heard him sing this is one of his best
Very true....
Couldn't agree more
This will forever be one of my favorite songs.
Definitely agreed
He's the only artist I can't get enough of. Never, ever tire of hearing, seeing or listening to him in interviews. He's a pure gem.
Same here
Me too!!
Yes, he is. 👍😎💯
This is a treasure that was certainly overlooked
One of the best songs he has ever done.
I completely agree with you.
There never were any imitators of Dwight trying to copy his voice or music. No one even tried because it would be impossible
ONE OF A KIND is an understatement.
So close
Bak in my Honkytonk days 99 20 I could shoot pool n dance n not loose . To DY
Just like Don Williams.
All of Dwight's work is underrated
Never sold out himself to be commercial . Great artist
Amen brother. Gotta respect that. He is a true showman. Have always loved him.
He was nominated for a Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for this song. He should have won, hands down. A true work of art, it stands up to the test of time. Dwight truly is "one of the immortals, hiding in plain sight. The lyrics, his voice: legend."
I wonder what would happen if we all called/emailed/texted our favorite radio stations and requested this song. Maybe it would finally get the recognition it deserves...
maybe if he didn't talk in it? that would make it better for me
❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely!!!
They probably wouldn’t know this song by Dwight
Dwight Yoakam music is played in our house everyday..He is Country Music ! I love this song..My Husband and I seen him in Santa Fe,N.M...Blame The Vain ! What great songs ..That was GREAT! Thank You,for all your wonderful songs !
he was at Cheyenne Wy. went to the concert. no way was I going to miss his being in town.
I’ve been a Dwight yoakam fan for a very long time my dad got me hooked on him but he undoubtedly one of the best country singer’s of all time
Even one of the best rock performers. I've seen him live, and that's one hard-rocking rockabilly band. Check out the "Fast as You" and "Intentional Heartache" videos. And a great producer of his own records and videos.
@@tripgreat oh hell yeah
I agree. I’ve seen him in concert.
@@tripgreat I like him because he’s a as true to country and a rockabilly singer.
@@diamond6719 I’ve seen him several times as well
One of Dwight's best songs ever. Check him out live and you will not be disappointed.
tHIS SONG CAME OUT DURING A VERY DARK PERIOD OF MY LIFE-HELPED ME GET THROUGH IT
This song makes me sad and at the same time it makes me euphoric. One of Dwights best.
this has always been one of those songs where you're like 'just let me lay down here on the floor and die bc your voice is so perfect'
California Country, TN doesn't know what they are talking about.
And Hank jr
I love, love, love this song and Dwight's voice and performance. I don't believe any other singer could do it better or look so darn good doing it.
100% Agree with you. He is Easy on the eyes that's for sure. Would love to go see him live. They say he's a great concert to go to. He's a legend that's for sure.
Oouj
I always picture Steven Tyler doing this song. Can you see it?🤔
I would love to meet you Brenda!!!
This frigging video and song is definitely underrated. I’m sharing this everywhere. The look . The outfit . The broken heart. Well done.
This man could sing me the phone book and I'd be happy.
LOL!! I feel the same way!

I will always think of him as the best country artist ever was. He has such soul in his voice. He is a true artist one of a kind. ❤
It's rare for an artist to keep putting out such original music after so many years on top. One thing I like about Dwight is he doesn't do cookie cutter music. It's so refreshing.
A❤😂😢😅
Dwight didn't even blur the line... He blended twangy country and rock and roll seamlessly.
He's in a genre of his own.
He's the Honky Tonk Man for sure. The stuff you listen to when you're in some smoky old hole in the wall, sitting alone at a bar after a life's had its way with you.

The only thing better than Dwight yoakam is more Dwight yoakam!!!!!

Very smooth delivery of this song. Dwight Yoakum is a great singer.
This is one of my all time favorites. I loved it when it first came out. Now 20 some years later I can relate so much. Who knew that I'd be livin those words. Dwight is a #1 entertainer. He's never got the credit or accolades he deserves. Love ya Dwight! ❤️❣️
I have recently really listened to all Dwight’s recordings - I admire him greatly for his true talent. I am a huge fan.
I'll never forget the first time I heard Dwight sing!!!
Omg, what a beautiful, soulful, deeply romanitc sad song that I can so relate to right now. I love you, Matt.
This song really showcases Dwight's unique voice. Love it, even though it brings tears to my eyes,,,
"NOTHING" on country radio today...even comes close to this great country music... "NOTHING"
It's not country. That is straight up late sixties Memphis style soul.
Everyone has a opinion....many of DWIGHTS songs get defined as not COUNTRY....even back then.....MANY have been defined as ROCK A BILLY...or BAKERSFIELD sound..etc...or in your case memphis soul...

Omg his voice makes me wanna melt.
This man moves me so much, find myself watching him most days.
imo one of his most underrated songs
yep this song is a true story for me. lots of memories. it still messes with me to this day.
Dwight sings with such raw emotion and that makes him one of the best. he feels what he sings.
Exactly why I've been listening to him for over 20 years
this is my favorite song-----ever .
Dwight's r & b influence is strong here, reminds me a lot of al green
Yes; the horns, especially!
He puts his heart and soul into this. So beautiful.
OMG he is perfect!!!! I fell in love with his voice. Then fell in love with him.💕❤💜💙
Great singer I hope he never stops singing
Dwight has done so many styles of country and flirted with rock and did his own takes on the country greats of the past. I hear a little Motown in this one. He’s a unique artist.

Dwight is so passionate about this song I love it 🥰
My heart melts when chords play @ :34-35...omg I love this melody!!! And then at the end when he whispers sexy....I couldn't change your heart.....Dwight you're AWESOME!
I couldn't agree more. He is a truly gifted artist and one of my creative heros. He is also a very sweet-natured and intelligent human being.
I don't always listen to country music...but when I do, it's the good stuff⬆🔥⬆🔥⬆🔥💯😎
This is as genius today as first time I heard it NOTHING BUT GENIUS
2019 and still listening...
Love his blue eyes and his smile handsome guy in the world
I agree with you 💯 %
I think this has to one of my favorite songs, just keep listening and watching
what a song I lost my wife twelve years ago this reminds me of her miss you babe!
+Jeff Garrison Sorry to hear of your loss. Music is powerful and can be painful, but also healing. Many blessings.
Jeff Garrison, God bless you my husband passed 3 1/2 years ago..I understand your pain..
My husband died 2 years ago...I loop this song and "A thousand Miles From Nowhere"...breaks my heart but I can't stop.
This one unfolded like a Picasso painting💥✌🏼🎸🎶👠❤️😢
I'm from Kentucky n this is my truest songwriter composer singer musician artist period we love this man. Words fail me to describe all the emotions he can instill in his music n those who love him.
Never had the pleasure to see him in concert yet......but like they always say "baby things change"!!!! I love all of DY's music......
CAN NOT stop listening to this song (and watching the video), OMG! He is so diverse, twangy, raspy, croony, all the above. I'm in love!
Yoakam is one of a kind & in, my mind, brilliant. Dig the horns, Skip Edwards on the B-3 organ, the Al Green like percussion, & Pete Anderson's production, arrangement, & guitar work!
No one like this man :o) "My Hero"
Such a nice man!! I have been a fan, for a long time :o)
Thank you :o)
Yes it is my friend :o)
I can feel that song all too real.
Dwight, you hit #20 in Billboard, 12-30-95. God bless you, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a blessed rest of the week!
My favorite DY song.Its perfection.
so underrated
Dwight is the man!
This song is the best..I ever heard...beautiful
After the 70,s artists Dwight was the best with the best band, guitarist and producer.
It's a real shame this video doesn't have more "Likes"!!!

Love these songs..*old, new and inbetween..love the way he moves...~~~
"you didn't try to hear, you didn't try to see, you just stared right through the teardrops like there was nothing left of me"
Reminds me of Easter 2011 when I went up to the altar to pray to save my family, I bawled like a baby, and her cold heart just stared right through the tears like there was nothing left of me :(

It sounds like it was recorded in Memphis in 1968-69.
It just has that feel.
One of Dwight's very best😂😂😂😂😂😂
I think the first song I heard from him was "Fast as you ".I was totally addicted
This is the most beautiful song I have ever heard....true...in life...
I've been a fan of Dwight for many many many years and although I've heard tons of other singers none can compare to Dwight I always turn to him for my music
He’s so damn good
My go to when I need a feelings moment , he can can definitely bring feelings to the surface
Omg
Nobody breaks a heart with a song like Dwight.....
Pete Anderson on guitar and engineering the music in the studio was a huge aspect of Dwight's sound.
I think Beck said it correctly. Something like "Dwight Yoakam is his own
genre. Only Dwight is Dwight."
Couldn't agree more.
this came out in a time in my life that I was living this song...ahhh the memories
2018 still a Hit in my eye's love Dwight 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Now he knows what a broken heart feels like!
If this song would've came out 5 or 6 years later in the 2000s instead of the 90s I think it would've been bigger. It was too modern and too classic r&b influenced for it's time. A real shame it wasn't a top 10 hit.
Too modern & too classic sums up his whole career, and he has admitted as much. I call it timeless
I think this song is great and nobody but Dwight could sing it. Love it..
Dwight’s the man!
Delight sings from his Heart& Emotions into every word of each song 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
My go-to song when I'm feeling broken. :'(
