Great video. Many of us have small generators for obvious reasons and then after the fact we want to use it for welding on small jobs where utility power is not available. You demonstrate that it is possible. Too often the academics post tables showing what size generator is necessary for what capacity welder. You target the niche area for people with small generators looking for a way to use it for welding in remote locations. Thanks!
Thanks for doing this. I bought a little inverter welder to do stick (SMAW) work & a 9kw(running watts) TMG Industrial generator to power it (@230v) & other toys. Used to big welders in my past work, so, figured I'd not be happy at 120v, yet, you seemed to be getting a lot out of your combo.
The reason it overloaded is because you didn't use the large 120V receptacle. The standard 120V receptacle is still only able to provide 20A if I'm not mistaken. Make an adapter to get power from the big outlet, and it should work a lot better.
I hadn't thought of that, but I do have an adapter to go from the 120V RV down to a 20A plug. I will try this and make a follow-up video. Thanks for the tip!
@@uthe54 Did you ever try again using the big RV receptacle? I have a predator 3500w inverter generator with a HF titanium 140 welder. I’m wondering if my combination would work for welding on small projects?
I was just thinking that was mine . I was running a 110 welder off for my 4000 generator .. at first it was working then it would trip the breaker now it won't even do s*** .. I guess I need to get that 220 plug and run it down to 110 ??
It's a pretty good video but I think it's important that people know and understand the what amp you're running the welder on it's a 125 amp welder maxed out to not weld very well but when you lowered the amperage what did you lower it to that would be some more good information to know thank you for your video
hey dude, 2500W are needed for about 90-100Amps Stick welding. I have a small 160A stick welder, rated minimum generator power 5,5kW. That sucked, so i got a welder generator. I can recommend a welder generator for you.
@@markanthonyalamillojr.2586 i got a list but cant find it now. The most portable welder generators are Genset Weldbaby and Mosa Magicweld (nearly same parts I think)
I have that 110 welder Mig and I can't get it to run up my 4000 Watt generator Harbor Freight deal .. it was working but it was tripping the breaker all the time now as soon as I touch the metal it f****** turns off
Entertaining video. I have a 4500 watt champion generator i havent even used once lol buy i had the notion of doing a welding project where there is no power outlets. I ordered the larger adapter outlet converting from the rv receptacle to a welding 50r female end. Hopefully it works 😆 i just dont want to purchase a huge welding generator for this 1 week project. How is your generator holding up ?
@gilbertmartinez9358 I didn't have to go this route. I ended up welding brackets to fit so I wouldn't have to do field welding. I think it would work but not for a larger welder.
At 5:47 at that time it looks kinda patriotic and cool to see the look of Sparks or pretty much like a July sparkler.. 💯 was looking pretty with the flag in the back ground
I have a Lincoln 100 I ran on a 1700w generator. It worked but not that well. I bought the 125 because it was much lighter and supposedly used less power. I couldn't even get the Titanium to to fire up let alone run a bead.☹
So plastic fuel tank generator full of gas sitting like one foot away from falling slag and you're wearing shorts 🩳 what could go wrong 🤦 next time set a box of fireworks under your welding table too .....
Nothing could go wrong, this isnt a cartoon. Ive accidentally welded over an open jerry can half full of gas and vapors and it just caught fire and i just covered it and it went out and i moved it. Things dont magically explode because you saw it in a cartoon

been thinking about picking up a generator for the same welder this video helps thank you
If I was you think bout upgrade to a 4500 watt.. I have that same name brand from tractor supply and I run my 125 amp mig welder off it..
I did the same thing horbart 140. honda 2200i. I have 5 heat settings. It will run on 4 but not 5. works great

interesting, i was wondering how well these little boxes ran off generators....well done
Sparks are jumping on top of your generator, please be careful it may be an explosion
no s*** dude you better move that generator
I have a Deko stick welder I have been going to try with my GenMax welder . I expect I will get the same results .

be cool to move generator away from the work space. Sparks n gas....

I didn't notice that until you pointed it out. Very cool!
I agree
I.
Can run a 180 Lincoln welder. With a 3500 predator generator it will work.Believe me I can run my plasma cutter on my generator too miller
Gonna have to get one o those shirts 🤣
What’s the best affordable generator for this?
Great video
I'm worried about to see sparks over the generator 🙄🙄🎈
Thank you
Good job bro 👍

me either with a 13000/10500 RW Gen. maybe a heat issue?
@@TheHalusisif it’s not an inverter generator it might not make the right clean power the inverter welder wants to run properly.

not bad
My giant gen bogs out.
awesome welding in shorts is it burning your legs. like your video
It's ok, those are safety shorts 🩳 :)
Hahahaha safety shorts that’s awesome
How were you able to change out the nozzle like that? Every nozzle I find is too big to fit the 125
Flip flops are a bad idea too, you learn something every day

Half get a generator now lol
