The Edmonton Oilers lost 3-2 to the San Jose Sharks last night in the NHL "Toilet Bowl". We take a look at how San Jose pulled off the win & why the psyche of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and the rest of the Oiler team are a mess. - Спорт
“Are you worried about your job” the balls to ask that 😂
Ikr that clip killed me 😂😂😂😂😂
Dam dude ask Torts that. 😂
Dudes face tho😂 it said omg hes right
That's Mark Spector for you. Asks stupid questions all the time.
It's not a stupid question, I don't feel bad for anyone who makes over half a million a year. There are expectations to win and if you aren't winning, goodbye.
How do you luck into 2 generational talents in back to back drafts and still fumble the bag this badly? Happy to see the sharks win again tho. Whatever Grier said in that closed meeting really made a difference. Great content as always.
Ask Toronto
Still tons of time to turn it around… but it ain’t looking pretty right now.
@silentshunder54 huh? 😂 I like Toronto jokes but this makes no sense
@@Gergentine year after year of grade A talent and nothing to show for it
Because the Oilers organization has the hubris of a King in a Greek Tragedy.
Crazy contrast from last year... last year, the word around McDavid was "Leon told me I should shoot more, so I've been working on my shot" and he absolutely tore up the league to win the Rocket and the Hart. This year the word is "cup or bust" and the best player in the world is being outscored by third liners in Winnipeg.
Mcdavid is injured
I always knew my 3rd line boys would take off someday
@@IronAxeGaming1if he's that injured he should sit out. Him not playing at 50% of his capacity hinders the team more then it helps.
@@kylejordan2654 what's interesting is that even in this state he's still a point per game. If he is playing injured (which would make some sense), he's almost certainly more impactful than whoever would replace him. But clearly "better than replacement" is not good enough to win games, so if a full recovery would happen faster with him not playing, the team would be better taking him out of the lineup until he's fully ready
Us Edmonton fans know best... when we stink, we stink BAD.
“You’ve got a Stanley Cup contender that is in 32nd place right now. Are you worried about your job?” Damn
Drai is dry
Mcdavid Mcdoesn’t
Kane needs a cane
Nurse needs nursing
Oilers need an oil change
😂😂😂😂
Cue The McFailure chants….
@@hockeypsychologysuper-size that failure.
Hymen is broken
😂🤣
It's the same team as last season just a few months older. I think the two games against the Canucks to open the season broke them. It's an ego thing and they couldn't handle it and their confidence in their goaltending was somehow completely obliterated. It was a bad leadership move to assume they could coast through the regular season like it was beneath them.
not the same team, no Barrie, no Yamamoto some of those guys were contributors more so than some of the guys they have now
They also got very lucky and over achieved last year.
@@Gl-my8fw😂 more like under achieved.
can you blame them? if they dont score they get blown out every game it must feel depressing to know that oilers never really built a team around those 2 sad................oh well
Canucks W, broke the Oilers, life goals reached
I prayed for the Oilers downfall but holy shit i didn’t think it’d go this badly for them.
You can stop praying now. LOL
Can you pray for me to get healthy? I could use a miracle, too. Thanks.😆
So it's your fault?? Who do you have winning the Superb Owl?
Way to go. Prayer finally worked for someone and wasted it on wanting a hockey time to do poorly.
I usually say "Nothing fails quite like prayer" but damn you beat the odds with this one.
I always come back to this video because of how funny and entertaining it is, the turnaround is wild
I love watching this video today as the Oilers have a 13 game winning streak and are 6 points back of Vegas for 2nd place in the Pacific.
Summary of Edmonton's dilemma: They're finally realizing that defense wins championships the hard way. You'd think the last 5 Stanley Cup winners and those two consecutive ass kickings they just suffered from Colorado and Vegas would've made that obvious to them by now, but no. This team never learns, and now they're paying the price for it.
I really like these more thoughtful videos were you breakdown and explain the systems behind the game!
So true. And so much better than typical SN and TSN know nothings who constantly lie about players and spout nonsense.
@@-Subtle- yeah theyre pretty crap wish they realized that
Hey, I left this same comment yesterday, or the other day. 👌Also, it doesn't feel like he's just reading off of /r/hockey., which I feel like a lot of other channels do.
16 in a row guys
One game away from the Cup!!! What a wild unpredictable season!!
Been waiting for this video all morning. As an oilers fan, I’m not even mad. This is just funny at this point.
IMO the worst part of this situation is that they're not even the "lovable loser" due to fan and media expectation. There is so much ground that needs to be made up in their play and record before they can be given even the most modest of praise. What's going to fix it? One week of solid performances? A month of a nearly spotless record? They're going to have to take it one game at a time, but nobody is going to be giving them any props for winning a singular game in isolation.
For myself, i'm gonna say a month of winning 90% of their games is what would give me confidence in this team again. Also competent goaltending.
Exactly. They went in to the season with a huge ego and “cup or bust” statements. Their play is lazy because they expected to win games but clearly don’t put in the hard work.
They don’t care about props lol. They need to start putting some win streaks together so they can get into the playoffs. Unfortunately for them they have no confidence in their goalie and it’s going to be hard to turns things around with this in the back of their minds. It would be worth it for them to trade for a goalie. The goals will come but it’s not going to be enough.
what makes them unlikable is all the first overall picks wasted in last ten or so years . Not the media lol
Hockey Gods curse teams that tank to get #1 overall picks. 😂
I love these longer, more thoughtful and in depth videos. Keep it up
Where was McDavid after the game? Seems like the Captain should be front and center, instead of Drai and Nuge having to face the media after such a humiliating defeat.
Great post. I really like your breakdowns of zone coverage/strategy with the graphics. Very informative and I appreciate it. Thanks!
I really like how you break down the team structures in all 3 zones. You should do some videos going over the different teams and how they play.
Also, if you're feeling up to it. Can you find out why Tampa has completely forgotten how to play in their own end? Cause someone needs to figure it out 😆
Love your videos. Love the breakdown of systems for someone like me who enjoys watching hockey but never actually played.
Normally I roll my eyes when people doompost about a team prior to the 20 game point and the standings start to balance out... But when a Stanley Cup favorite needs to win every single game from now till then to even break 500... Yeah that's bad
I don’t think many people considered them a Stanley Cup favourite. You can’t win a Cup without solid goaltending.
What is 500?
@@pintorthepintor3964 0.500 is an even points percentage, 1.0 being the max, 0 the min; people call it 500 just because its easier to say.
@@roblockhart8410 Media sure as hell over hyped them. People have a homer tendency to say a team is a contender when they manage to snag 2 or more games against the Stanley Cup champs/Conference champs. Oilers virtually changed no parts in their roster and people thought that they were going to go from second round exit to potential Cup winner lmfao
@@roblockhart8410 did you watch the video? Most ''experts'' said they'd win the cup.
The Oilers are quickly getting to the point of having similar pressure to Toronto’s first round pressure for getting this thing back on track. That kinda pressure is difficult to play through, even if you have a great team.
Imagine what these guys could be with Eberle and Hall.
The Flyers had the biggest exhale once the Oilers lost to the sharks lol
this ages like fine wine, now play La Bamba Baby!!!!!!!! 🛢🛢
Detroit fans know Ken Holland all too well. Happy to see him go, but we also expected this result where ever he went.
Oilers are a GREAT team and will bounce back. Maybe when Holland is gone
I watched them play last year I remember saying this "They need to work on their defense" well I guess we don't learn and this shit happen :(
I knew Edmonton wouldn't be as good as the shills in the media predicted, this is the most hilarious situation in sports this year imo I'm honestly more suprised people thought a team with such little depth and lackluster defense would end up winning the cup, this isn't the nba where you can have 2 superstars and make a deep playoff push, you need a balanced roster
They have been stanley cup favorites for like 6 years these "sports writer's" ignore logic to hope and pray picking the oilers with automatically win a cup for them with nothing backing it up no depth no goaltending shit defence besides mcdavid and drai whats the reasoning for them winning a cup
NoLanConnection: EXACTLY
I was really wondering wtf people thought they'd be contenders with so little to show for in the recent past and so little changes to the team.
Just before the season started, when everyone was picking them to be cup champs, I said they'd miss the playoffs.. Oilers fans had a good laugh at me back then.. This is splendid to watch!!!
@@Nick-yh6ofikr it's like they go based off of the hype of 2 players, and you hear these "anylysts" compare this team to the 80s oilers and talk about them like a dynasty when they haven't won a cup it's baffling
I'm glad you mentioned Draisaitl's missed coverage. I did a breakdown of his entire shift leading up to that goal for San Jose and his play is absolutely atrocious. As always, great video!
never understood the love affair with him. legit he is anson carter. take away the sedins you have nothing.......
Super over rated. Def benefits from McMovement and hot powerplays.
It was more on Holloway than Drai.
I'm here after they won the wcf. Hockey is a hell of a sport.
Many years of mismanagement, overpaying players like nurse, thinking Campbell was the answer etc. The rot begins at the top.
With all of Edmonton’s 2010s rebuild picks, you’d think that they couldn’t possibly fuck it up this bad, but here we are
Hockey is a sport where 90% of the time a bit of laziness does no damage. The problem is, that other 10%.
This has been so entertaining to watch lol! All of us that saw this coming are so entertained right now. I went out of my way to make sure I watched the game last night. Same goes for the sharks first win the other night. lol
Love your breakdowns! Thank you for this content! Keep it up.
Well, this is a surprising and very very welcome turnaround.
I have no idea why people rated them so highly in the pre-season. They haven't fixed their line-up problems that have been prevalent for at least 5 seasons (D depth, F depth, a clear nr.1 goalie)...
Bro. Your videos and analysis are so bar down. Keep up the solid work.
Losing confidence is a complete game killer. If you cant trust that you and the team can take and win risky plays, you will make safe plays instead and always be a step behind
You have to love when top heavy teams fail, it validates the need for balance, identity and the right culture
this is too fun to watch
I'm a long time Oiler fan but I saw this coming months ago. There are 7 reasons IMO for this terrible situation. I'm not surprised. I saw it coming.
Goaltending, Defense, bottom 6, coach, gm, system and stress about everything is overanalyzed when you are supposed to be a cup contender (what you arent, but media made up)? not too much into oilers, so dont take it too seriously, its just from what i've seen in few videos :D
This mabey sounds completely insane, but this sharks team is starting to grow on me.
Not because of a single win, I love seeing Zadina & Zetterlund getting points regardless.
And my god is Blackwood Elite ~ Elite so far... nothing but the best for him.
Blackwood is insane! ❤❤❤
You deserve more views! Great content
Checking in June 3rd to state how badly this post has aged. Go Oilers!
Blackwood is by far an All-Star Goalie! He had an AMAZING game against the Av's also. The guy is a brick wall! I'm an Av's fan.. but also a Blackwood fan. Pure talent!
As a sharks fan I feel bad for them. Happy the sharks will get a good draft pick, but man blackwood deserves better. Sharks offense is the worst I've ever seen.
@scottstenlund4431 I think it was meant as he is playing at an all star level
Your videos are awesome. You'll be 10X subscribers in 1-2 years!
Excellent analysis!!
I really didn't think Holland could ever be worse than Chiarelli for this team. But Holland has historically done a great job of proving me wrong.
This is amazing 😂
Honestly I can't believe people thought the Oilers were a sure fire cup contender. I thought everyone's pre-season assessment of EDM was wildly inflated.
Never thought it would be this bad though. I figured they'd make the playoffs for sure and eventually lose, because they're like the Leafs but with an even more top heavy & thin lineup.
From Stanley cup contender to lottery draft contender (again). Wow.
Again who tf in their right mind would consider the Oilers Stanley Cup contenders?
The past doesn't justify it at all!
What's the farthest they went in the playoffs lately?
Has the team really improved that much since last year?
Answers are: not very far, and no.
So wtf?
They just need one more first pick 😂
Dude amazing take as usual
Being an oilers fan really hurts
Love your channel and perspective, just awesome to listen too. Also it’s funny how teams get so trashed on when they lose but someone has to lose. If one team wins someone else loses. You can’t have all teams that are 10-2 in the start the math doesn’t work. That’s the shitty part of sports. It’s the same for all sports and teams. If you’re the loser that season it can suck.
Those pre-season captain skates are paying dividends.
I feel really good that I chose this season to watch my first Edmonton Oilers game... because it was against the Canucks and they gave out free tea towels that light up for some reason. Now when I wash my dishes I can see the lights under the water... pretty.
great analysis!
Drai with yet another pissy remark is on point. Great attitude this team has!
Personally I think some of the Edmonton based media hacks having coming so I'm ok with his attitude of his retorts.
Always love Leons responses😂
There’s more to life than hockey. Maybe it’s time for Edmonton to realize that it’s time to fight for more than just hockey. Tell the Edmonton government to fight for your liberty, lower taxes and prosperity to succeed to purchase in your own home to having a good lifestyle, and two embracing a community that helps the homeless helps the drug addiction and alcoholism that exists in Edmonton, and so many other communities.
Bro, Kenzie stood on his head this game, amazing performance for any tendy
It could always get worse for McDavid, he could be traded to Toronto.
That's what he wants
@@timhenderson9794 Why would he go from one dumpster fire to another? He would go to LA guarantee you, they would also probably give him more sponsorships since Bettman wants the face of the NHL in America.
Sick content man! Oilers better not steal Celebrini from us 😂 go Sharks!
It's gonna be a hard season for the Oilers. I don't expect a turnaround.
@1:56 There was talk about puck watching by Draisaital. Interesting observation. Now, may I ask, isn't it the job of those giant D men to stand in front and watch for this play. Rather than a backchecking forward chasing the play? I do not understand the system being used.
Edmonton should call Patrick Roy to coach
It basically boils down to one thing. The sharks have an excuse and an incentive to be bad (ie:better draft lottery odds) and the oilers are a team trying to win. That’s the difference. The oilers are tied with a team that is literally trying to lose.
Were do you get youre background music from
Who is here when Edmonton is one game away from the Stanley cup final?
Keep an eye out 👀

And now one game away from WINNING the Stanley Cup final!
St louis a few years ago was in last place in January. Then they fored their coach and won the stanley cup
Great breakdown. Working that 3-2 offensive style just isn't working for the Oilers. The coach needs to switch things up or they need a new coach.
I think it’s mostly just mcdavid and draisaitl not performing. Their goaltending is a bit worse but their defense and goaltending was bad last year too. They basically would win because Connor and Leon would score enough to make up for the negatives. Not sure what’s wrong with mcdavid but I hope he figures it out
Blackwood is really, really good. i wish the leafs had him
I bet the Oilers wish that they had him too...
This brings me joy
I amazed by the quality of hockey youtube channels
With the right GM making the right moves they can absolutely win a cup. As a Pens fan I can remember just how hopeless that 2010-2015 stretch felt.
That Nurse contract is killing them and it is only going to be felt even more with Draisaitl due for a big raise soon. They have to move him, even if it means having to retain a bit of money, it must happen imo.
"why am I not surprised" -signed, a life long Red Wings fan
The Oilers should have concentrated on playing hockey, not pushing the RAINBOW TAPE AGENDA!
As a Flames fan, this is awesome to watch unfold. This team has been handed nothing but luck and good fortune and to see it masterfully blow up in their face has softened the blow of how underwhelming our own season has been
Flames are doing pretty well. Hoping for another Battle of Alberta in the playoffs.
As an Edmontonian, I am embarrassed by our owners and choices made.
Why the fuck wouldn't you start Pickard against the worst team to initiate him? Get him baptized and build his confidence.
I love woodcroft but I feel his allegiance to Skinner has hurt. That paired with Campbell being bad, its all around a shit situation. Yes D is bad, yes Depth scoring is bad. But the goaltending is the main issue/
I have been ssaying this for years that when a single team basically relies on two generational talents for all their offensive production, it leads them into a bad spot. Edmonton has not made it to a cup final because of this, and they are in the position they are now because of this. Mcdavid and Drasaitl need to move teams if they want to win a cup but that won't happen because a team would have to give up half their player salary to get either one of them
San Jose volunteers to take them and has the cap for it xD
Coaching is the easiest thing to change in times of crisis. Trading sour assets with bad contracts (Nurse, Campbell) is much harder.
1:05 LMFAO, what a clip
Since when did having two point scoring machines equate to a cup? Theyre not 200 foot players. The rest of the team has a culture of imbalanced importance around 97 and 29.
They havent built a team, theyve built a market for merchandise.
I can definitely say i am happy for my man Mackenzie Blackwood. Ex goalie for my NJDevils and played hard, but injuries did plague his stint here. Seeing him get two big wins against Philly and Edmonton with so many saves from so many shots in both games. Kudos to him!
this intro will be a great intro to the Playoff Hype Video. 😭
I was dumbfounded that the Oilers didn't fire their coach after that loss.
They stumbled ass backwards into two generational talents, one of which is maybe the most skilled all around player in league history, and they still fuck it up.
Some respect for the Sharks too ffs. They played great and fought hard in this one.
Game seven Monday! And where the Leafs? Golfing....
Leon and Connor both look like they've aged 20 years in the last 3 weeks. Gets these players outta Edmonton before it ruins them
It's insane I had the Oilers making the finals this year...
'This is a fragile team right now'
Take em out for ice cream 😂
Start with a coaching change to shake things up.
Gallant is the man for the job in my opinion.
@@btgkg9639I can tell you as a rangers fan, no he isn’t.
I honestly never understood the Oilers hype going into this season. Their team practically got no changes and their goalie issue still plagued them since Talbot regressed. Their team last year was overly reliant on the PP and struggled in all aspects outside of it. Outside of the 5 PP guys, you could not name another player on that team and their best d-man is fucking Darnell Nurse. What part of this team did the media think was a contending team?
Exactly what happens when they keep trying to capture the 80's glory with just a few star players but the game has changed to be a 4 line team game, the days of having just one or two guys is over.
I've seen 4 Oilers jerseys in garbage bins throughout the city of Edmonton
love draistl telling the reporter hes a clown basically. I picked the oilers to miss the playoffs and the coach to get fired before the season started and no one believed me. The hockey media is just clueless
It almost that time it NHL review time Montreal is not even watching this lmao
I think this can be a great opportunity for the oilers. They need to respond, someone in that locker room needs to stand up and call everyone out and lead them to playing better. If they can learn how to work through this and get back to winning ways they will be unstoppable.
Question is what is it going to take? Is it a new coach, do the goalies need to grow a pair and make the tough saves, or does Mcdavid have to start playing a solid two way game giving hits blocking shots and fighting to get this team going? Thats the question they need to figure out.
