  • Here’s the RIGHT way to make or repair nylon fuel lines without having the special nylon fuel line making tool! They can be a pain and are a critical part of your fuel system, but if done correctly can save you money and time! As always be safe and this is just a how-to by me, I do not claim to be a professional and do not assume any liability of what you do! I appreciate you watching, go ahead and like,subscribe and comment if this helped you out!
    WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
    Nylon fuel line
    Fuel line fittings
    Razor Blade
    C-clamp
    Brake line flare tool
    Socket to fit inside fitting
    Hairdryer
    Vise
    Side cutter
    Electrical tape
    I used Dorman nylon fuel line and Dorman fuel line fittings
    Also this project does involve gasoline and I am not responsible for anything that you do with this information, work on your fuel lines at your own risk! Take your time and do it right, gasoline is extremely flammable!!!!!!

    This worked for me but used the modified Irwin quick clamp instead. I wrapped the nylon tubing with electrical tape so the flaring tool clamp wouldn't nick it and I put the clamp in a vice. I also inserted a #13 drill bit into the 5/16"nylon line before tighten the flaring tool clamp and it stopped it from getting crushed. I also poured boiling water on the tube while tightening the Irwin quick clamp. The #13 bit will go through the 5/16 quick connect fitting and helps keep the tube and connector lined up.

    Nice job! Using a calking gun keeps the alignment better than the clamp because your clamp has the floating foot. The caulking gun is rigid. You still need to use the flaring tube holder so the nylon tube doesn't slide away from the fitting.

      I use a piece of wood stair railing, the center drilled out to 5/16 or 3/8 and cut right down the middle to make two halves. Use this and a couple of hose clamps and it'll hold the line tightly. It allows it to fit the caulk gun nice and square.

    • @Azkeyguy
      @Azkeyguy  2 роки тому +1

      No I didn’t mine was actually a straight shot so I didn’t have any major bends, getting the line to bend without kinking is trick and takes heat, and even then you weaken the tubing, most of the stuff prebent to the vehicle is formed that way in the factory and holds its strength in the bends

  • @jalton9416
    @jalton9416 4 роки тому +2

    Good video. I had trouble working with the nylon fuel line. 5/16 was too small, 3/8 was too big for the fittings and steel line. I needed to make a w shaped piece to copy the out of production Chrysler fuel line. I eventually went with rubber fuel line with clamps. It worked out okay for a 18 year old vehicle.

    • @Azkeyguy
      @Azkeyguy  4 роки тому +3

      J Alton definitely rubber does the trick, I have done rubber in the past but on this vehicle wanted to do the nylon, but I didn’t want to pay for the factory piece for $170 bucks, nylon is kind of hard to work with, it’s a fine line between getting it warm enough to get the fitting in but not too hot that it bends or kinks the line! I appreciate you watching my vid! Take care!

    Good advise, only problem is when you would have to do this on the car, I'm doing a 1998 sebring and whoever did the fuel filter screwed up the quick connector to the fuel pump. Reckon I will figure it out. Looks like they lost the little white plastic lock for the quick connect. They stuck it on without it and the fuel pressure blew it off. I may be able to but a new quick connector and just use the little white locking piece. Can't believe they left it like that. Thanks for posting, a big help for a fellow improvisation specialist. 👍👍🏁🏁

      Oh man that sounds like a nightmare, gotta love having to fix someone else mess, ughhh I feel for you man, ya it would def be a pain on the vehicle, is the connector messed up or those little white clips can be taken out of a new one with care if that’s all it needs, but u probably know that if your willing to take on this job! Or ya now I read u say that right in the post, I would definitely try that route first, ya it’s surprising what some people will do and then just walk away, if I break something I stick around till it’s fixed!

    • @Azkeyguy
      @Azkeyguy  2 роки тому +6

      So since my hose was kinked in the middle I just used all new line and fittings, but if you needed to reuse the fitting then the best way would be to use a razor blade carefully to cut the hose the long way down the barbs of the fitting, once they are in there they are pretty hard to get out, even with heat, but heating it up might actually make it easier to cut the line off there too, but be careful if you do, don’t cut yourself!!! • @Azkeyguy
      @Azkeyguy  3 роки тому +4

      I’m gonna say no please don’t, I don’t think it would be a good idea because of the high pressure from the fuel pump anywhere from 50 psi and up that a hose clamp will most likely not be able to hold the pressure and come off or slide off!! If that happens you will have fuel everywhere, a huge fire hazard and be stuck on the side of the road! I would definitely advise against doing it that way, it won’t hold!!!! Be safe and just fix it the right way it will save you a headache or the loss of your car!!! Please don’t do this!!! Take care thanks for watching and commenting!

      For sure I kinked the line the first time and proceeded to swear and be like wtf, and it does take a lot to keep everything all aligned perfect and try to tighten the clamp especially if you only have two hands, an extra set would help a lot, I know I had to trust my repair because I wouldn’t be able to tell if it held until I had it on and the fuel tank up, which I had to remove the axle to get the tank out (98 trans am) and then see if it leaked, it didn’t, still hasn’t, and I had to go on a 1500 mile trip the day after I made he repair, which is why I didn’t have the time to wait for the new part or the right tool, but ya anytime your dealing with high pressure and fuel you want to make sure it’s right!!! Way to improvise and make something that worked!! Not many people can do stuff like that so I’m glad you got it!!!

    I understood you are not to heat up the nylon lines for the install????? Per Dorman????

      I think they might say that because there is a chance of gettin it too hot and kinking or collapsing the line, I very minimally (5-10 seconds) warmed it up to get the line to slip over the barbs on the connector, but yes definitely use caution and don’t over warm. Working with fuel lines definitely is at your own risk, and if your not comfortable warming up the line then I would definitely just buy the premade line, it wasn’t an option for me in my situation

    Geez that seems like a lot of work just to get an fitting in the lines. Is it just me??? 🤷‍♂ Now I am wondering if I should go with something else.

      Ya man it took me a few tries, kinked the line a few times, pretty frustrating but I was up the creek and had to get it done! For sure easier to buy if possible, but that wasn’t an option on my car, needed it right away, thanks for watching!!

    For anyone finding it hard to insert the connector into the hose, Apply white silicon grease with very high melting point to the connector. It will just slide with much less work.
    Edit: Clean the fuel lines with the help of hot boiling water before installing in the car.

      will this grease plug up fuel injectors?

    • @Azkeyguy
      @Azkeyguy  2 роки тому +1

      I can’t say for sure, most likely it would be caught by the filter or the gasoline would dilute/thin it down so much that it would not make a difference, thanks for watching

      @@09fatbobmike yes when using high temp like silicon grease, you must clean the pipes before installing them in the car.Use boiling hot water. But for fuel lines before the filter, these particles will get caught by the filter and wont pose a threat at all. but for fuel lines from fuel filter to the engine. you must clean it with hot water and blow them dry before installing.

      Definitely good advice, best to keep things as clean as possible when doing anything, especially fuel, don’t want to end up with more problems than you have too, thanks for contributing with good advice, and appreciate you watching!!

    You skipped ahead to where you had already had the quick connect almost completely in. If you're making a how to video then show us what caused problems and what worked so that we, the viewer, can see how you overcame those obstacles. This video is useless.
