    Former Canadian women's national team stars Amy Walsh, Rhian Wilkinson and Clare Rustad are none too pleased about the state of playing conditions that ultimate led to Canada bowing out of the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup against their arch-rivals, the USWNT. Here's why.

    Concaf match refs should have made a call to stop the game. Dangerous precedent of going ahead.

      Or minor ones. The only time I was worried was the huge collision between Alyssa and Vanessa Gilles. I have worked with many Canadians. I have vacationed in Canada. I know they are the best people I have ever known. There is a SheBelieves Cup in a few weeks. It will be fun to watch. I ❤the USWNT. Bonne journée.

    US fan here, and I agree the semifinal shouldn't have been played in those conditions. As far as the Mexico/Brasil red card, I was shocked -- In my opinion the penalty on Alex Morgan in the Colombia game was far more red-worthy.

    football matches have been played in those conditions before and players have to adjust men or women. Be smart to prevent injuries, and play a smart game based on conditions. but we are a soft society these days on this. Is not baseball football/soccer can be played in many weather conditions.

      I agree, people complain just to complain. If these Women really cared about Women's soccer, complain about Men trying to play in your league. That's a real complaint

      Go back and watch British soccer in the 70s and 80s, all types of conditions. Half the time they were playing in mud.

    Hi ladies, I think your frustrations are heard loud and clear by the Concacaf organization.
    My guess that the Snapdragon doesn’t have the drainage system built in because they thought Sandiego would never rain that much. But hopefully after this water game may stadiums would hurry up to equip that systems, especially the San Diego one.
    Yes everyone would prefer to play in dry environments as it should have been. To add water in the mix unexpectedly like asking you to use your extra skill playing in water if you have one! The USWNT people live and play soccer on dry land just like anyone else I BELIEVE!
    There was NO THUNDER ON THE FIELD, if there was I am sure they would stop the game at least for until no more thunder before playing again. I for one seen this COUNTLESS TIMES that they postponed til no more thunder.
    Postpone the game til next day would cost a lot more money and convenience, for players, organization, shorter rest for final game players….
    My guess is this was “ I’ll be damn if I do and I’ll be damn if I don’t” kinda scenario!
    Listening to you and other Canadian commentators I’ve come to the conclusion that you people have convinced the CANWNT SHOULD WIN THIS SEMI GAME AGAINST THE USWNT THIS TIME IF IT WAS PLAYING IN NORMAL CONDITION !!!
    That MAYBE OR NOT!!!
    The USWNT didn’t complain much about this WATERBALL, just a little maybe because they’ve won? On the contrary, you ladies and gentlemen, in different groups, have ranting on and on about it til the final game day!!!
    May I remind you, the US players have lived and played on dry land just like every Canadian, most of you anyway! At the end of extra time, the score was:
    Canada =2
    US. =2
    Now it was time to show case PERSONAL GOAL SHOOTING SKILLS . Miss Wilkinson, did you do well in PK shooting in your days??? You’re the Wales team coach now, if it were me I think before I speak, remember your job with the Thorns!!??
    The rest SPOKE FOR ITSELF AT THE PKs Shooting!!!🤩🤩🤩
    Hey Canadian friends, we are cousins, like it or not. This contest will go on forever between us. Cheer up train harder maybe in April you’ll give the USWNT the “finger”, still not too late!!!🤩
    Go teams Canada and USA!!! 🌹🌹🌹💖💖💖⚽️⚽️⚽️👍👍👍🇨🇦🇺🇸

    "you're asking for a dive". Nobody is asking for South American-levels of theatrics but sometimes the ref doesn't see it and VAR isn't going to go back to give a yellow. You can't assume the ref's eyeballs are always right on the ball at all times. The men don't fight it--they women shouldn't either.

    No tactical conclusions to draw from this? Are you kidding? I was there. Here are mine:
    The US team understood from minute one that they needed to ADAPT. They started immediately to learn how to test how the ball moved with different types of kicks at different spots of the field; they immediately started to flock to the ball, knowing at least initially that nobody knew how the ball would react, so the more players you had around the ball the better; and they knew immediately that the way to control the game was to get your damn elbows out and cut in on players (without fouling), like this was a snow game of 1970s American football between the Steelers and the Bills.... They also knew how to run after balls that normally would have run off the field but instead might just stop before going out.
    What I didn't like was the the Canadian version of adaptation was to run in front of other player and pretend like they slipped to knock an attacking player down. That happened multiple times and the ref didn't seem to care.
    The main problem with them calling this game is that (A) NOBODY could have EVER predicted this would happen. This is NOT San Diego weather. It was gorgeous the rest of the week. The championship match on Sunday was awesome. The field isn't built for that. The rain was going to continue for another hour. At halftime, they brought out half a dozen pitch workers with brooms to push water off the field, and they were only able to work on like on eighth of one-quarter of the field before halftime was over.
    It was a double-header, so if you postpone the game, you have to refund the entire stadium even though there were fans who left after the Mexico v Brazil match. That's a lot of money. I will trust you that this might be standard for the powers that be of CONCACAF in dealing with the women. But I truly feel if it were the men playing, they still would have had decision-making brain freeze.
    I still enjoyed the game. Maybe that's mostly because the US won and the Canadians showed their mettle by constantly cheating us out of an easy win twice in the last minutes. And beccause I think the Americans were simply better at adapting to unforeseen circumstances.

    Lightning/thunder require stopping play. Clearly defined in the rules. Heavy rain? Not even mentioned in the rules.

  • @erobinsonii

    There was no lightning and there was no earthquake. UA-cam> "Heavy Rain turned football stadium into a swimming pool 😳 Ireland Vs Albania UEFA nations league". >>> Rhian Wilkinson, probably not the best person to be throwing stones. Good coach though.

    tbf CMNT had to play in similar conditions v Honduras(I think?) not too long ago. But obviously neither game should have been played. Unsafe, unprofessional, for all teams involved, just more concacaf nonsense.
    Seemed like the "fuck you" was to Canada for that var review refusal imo. Mexico got one too. Brazil won anyway, but Mexico got non-stop bad calls all game from an american ref and a bunch were clearly fouls by Brazil.
    Bigger, more profitable developing market in the US so not surprising to see both games r-eff'd up to get to a US v South America storybook final. Hard pass on watching it though, same reason it's not worth watching professional wrestling or RM games in the UCL.

    I ref'd in Florida for many years. Not uncommon to play in those conditions. Same in the Caribbean, concacaf. Do you think Brazilians play in the rain? There were ZERO injuries in the game, Zero. The referee is assigned a match and it is the referee's job to get it done. Referees are expected to stop a game for safety issues, they MUST. Otherwise, both teams play in the same conditions. What is the concern? Are you saying that it was a plot to steal the game from the Canadians by the Americans? Are you sure it wasn't a PLOT by Concacaf, to cheat the Canadians? Or, a plot by the Referees to steal the game from the Canadians. I know, Americans paid the refs/concacaf/God in order to STEAL from the Canadians. The John Herdman legacy for Canada, "Canada was CHEATED, again. Sleep better that way?

  • @johnbeckham9665
    @johnbeckham9665 5 місяців тому

    It is also clearly defined that after the starting whistle, the referee is responsible for continuing play. So, you are wrong. Your assumptions of what took place when the ref went to the touch for a discussion, are simply that, assumptions. If anything, it was clarified that it was the referees responsibility. She must have chosen to continue play. No punctured lungs. American fans aren't the ones outraged.

      in dangerous conditions, I don;'t think that's how player safety should be determined. If someone WAS injured, was CONCACAF then going to call the game because it was, then, finally, unsafe?

      when there is standing water on the pitch and the ball can't roll, it's no longer soccer. that's what the ref demonstrated to the CONCACAF official, who didn't care because they weren't going to reschedule matches due to commercial reasons.

    • @agoo7581
