I get the concept, but I still disagree on the execution. I grew up in the UK...the last time I saw a McRib in the UK was many many years ago, possibly not even this century and it was super popular at that time. Now I live in China, where pork is cheap and indeed the favorite meat. No attempt to launch the McRib here. Finally, note that the McRib is very popular in Germany even while always being on the menu. I really don't think they're playing this game optimally.

The McRib is absolutely hideous and disgusting. Horrible tasting in my opinion. I took a bite of a McRib years ago and spit it out. Could not even get it down. And I was not even into home BBQ goodness at that time.
Smoke some 'real' ribs authentic and pull some of that great tasting BBQ meat off the bone and put it on a quality bun. Now that is a proper rib meat sandwich! Yum

The last time the McRIb came out in 2012 I was so disappointed to find the sauce was changed. Initially I thought it was just the location I went to had screwed up and used regular BBQ sauce instead of the tangy stuff I remember from the 90's that made it so addictive. Turns out they were all doing it. Hope they get it right this time.

There is no such thing as direct, nor indirect heat therefore the difference between barbecue and grilling can't be defined as such. If there were a definitive difference it would revolve around temperature over time, not made up terms and marketing hoopla.

@@FerociousSniper our story begins as all good stories do with hubris...
in 1975 ronald mcdonald met with a South american tribe deep within the amazon rainforest who refused to sell their land for pasture.
They told him of a devil in the jungle, a beast with eyes like fire and skin like steel.
Believing this to be just superstition the clown presured them into a deal and unwittingly purchessed the breeding grouds of the deadliest predator on six legs, the great Neoptera Gargantua. Known to science as the neoptarin.
Of the 10 men sent to flush out the beasts only 3 returned of the 3 only 2 actually saw the beast but just 1 managed to kill one.
Ronald found himself looking over the mangled corpse of something not quite a mantis and not quite a monster its golden skin accented with purple stripes. Fearing the legends were true they decided to burn thd body and speak of it to no one... and thats when the real discovery was made.
We now know that during mating the females eat the males and if she dosnt like the flavour, the show is over. Consequently only the tastiest neopterans pass on their genes.
The smell of the cooking bug overwhelmed the expedition crew and the McRib was born.
Now only ronald himself hunts the beast, not only addicted to the meat but the thrill of the hunt, when asked he told BBC horizon "do you know what a neopteran is? Its honest and pure and if i die hunting one ill know i was bested but something beautiful.
They say only the brave hunt the neopteran but only a fool would hunt them alone... that is why they call him the clown.

I grew up in Natick (Nayt-ik) and have actually toured that Army lab on a school field trip. We were only allowed to see the metal shop, food processing facility, and parachute test wind tunnel. All wicked cool!! However, the field yogurt they had us sample gave us all the shits. I had no idea that the, dare I say, technology behind the McRibs origins was from my hometown... Gives a whole new meaning to all those McRibs I've eaten at Natick McDonald's...

Basically in a nutshell Mcdonalds is profiting off the fact that random rewards provoke a higher response in humans, and thus they can profit more off of randomly introducing the mcrib. And the randomness of the release is also affected by pork prices, and other factors.

Let's run the numbers: The McRib was announced on October 30th, 2020 to return on December 2nd, 2020. According to SeekingAlpha charts, the $MCD stock price was $213 at close on 10/30. On December 2nd, it was $201.86. Current share price is $213.65. If you bought on October 30, 2020 when the announcement was made public, your return would be $0.65, or 0.3%. The S&P's return in the same timeframe is 16.45%.
