- Himitsu Sentai Goranger was a success when it came out, so much so that it warranted a follow up season in JAKQ - Dengekitai, but is JAKQ a worthy followup? In this episode of the Super Sentai Overview, we take a look at the second season of the Sentai series, what implications its existence had for the franchise, and how it impacted the series as a whole.

Me listening to the first half of this video: Huh, I heard JAKQ wasn't well liked but this sounds really cool.
Marvelous in Red: And then a new ranger shows up, undermines the others and it becomes more about him and we get sudden comic relief moments that really clash with the original tone.
Me: Oh...okay, I can see why this season would be infamous now.
Having only recently discovered that MMPR used footage from Super Sentai's Zyuranger series (and since I'm kind of a fan of the original MMPR series Seasons 1 - 2 and a half), I've been interested in checking out the Super Sentai series only to find out that it's not easy to come by with English subtitles, at the very least, in a legal way. So, I'm glad to see your channel is doing overviews of them and that they've been uploaded so recently.
So Big One was Tommy Oliver decades before Tommy Oliver.
Yep, down to the flaky appearances and forced mystique.
I'd say he's the first known to ever be a "special ranger" by seeing it as a power rangers way.
Exactly. The extra ranger (white) appearing and taking over leadership of the team, forcing the team's leading red ranger into being second-in-command. I wonder if Big One was just as loved. He often acts as second-in-command to Akaranger from Gorenger in Super Sentai anniversary specials and events.
When I was a kid, I recognize this super Sentai just from picture, don't even know what name it is. So it's JAKQ

What i loved about the finale was that they brought back Dajiri and He bacame a Real Joker with saving Karen and they remembering how it all started with Sakurai and Karens saving
I believe if JAKQ was to be something that came out in today's time, it would have held up to completion.

JAKQ is my very first Sentai when I saw it in 1983 when I was 4. After 12 years later and MMPR came out. I and many others out there was in a quest for the truth and that obtain and know more of the shows that came from Japan and was unmolested by Haim Saban!!! And that was my look into Sentai.
Overall JAKQ was a very ambitious and different attempt into drama courtesy of the creator himself Shotaro Ishinomori. It worked as a drama but drove the viewers(children) away because it was too dark. Bringing hero veteran of Hiroshi Miyauchi in as Big One was brilliant but having him as a show stealer alienated the viewers. The writers must have learn their lesson with 6th (Bangai) heroes with Big One.
It became the Big One and friends show and the show dumbed down with the cook... If they would have balanced it more this show would be a Big hit.. i still enjoyed every second of it

11:14 I think it would be better if Iron Claw is actually a cyborg like the rest of JAKQ, but he has all the abilities of Big One and he is as powerful as Big One. His origins could be traced back to before World War II, and he had a history with Commander Kujirai. Then Iron Claw secretly formed CRIME shortly after the end of World War II.
No space aliens are involved with CRIME and Iron Claw.
Also, there will be no Big One at all.
Iron Claw would still become a G.I. Joe's Destro look-alike, but only in the final episode and it would be Iron Claw's "final form". Without Big One added into the picture, the rest of JAKQ fights Iron Claw themselves, but it shows how strong Iron Claw in his "final form" and he brutally curb-stomps JAKQ. Thankfully, Iron Claw does have a weak spot that the JAKQ had just found out and exploit it, assuring Iron Claw's destruction.
Lastly, there will be no alien robot Shine as the final antagonist.
That is what could have been for the second half of JAKQ Dengekitai if I was their writer.
You know now that I think about it I do think I know how both things can work. Do you want to hear them.

@@Isaac-gh5ku sorry it took so long but here is what I was thinking. See the idea would be be thar Iron Claw and Joker would be old friend's who both served in the army during WWII. However he secretly had jealously over his friend as it seemed he was always better then him. Eventually during the war, he was badly injured and even lost some of his limbs whole his friend was fine. Worse is that whole Joker took all the glory, while Iron Claw had nothing, developing Hatred towards his friend. Joker did try to help his friend and even attempts to get him recognized, but Iron Claw refuses. Instead he viwed that he would get even with him. That is when he met Shine who had been watching Earth for some time and had taken an interest in the crime organizations, terrorists groups, and hate groups on Earth, an decided to try something different and use it as part of the basics for his invasion of Earth. Shine makes an offer to Iron Claw, promising to help him take revenge and get more power if he agreed to assist in the invasion. He agreed and becomes a Cyborg and a leader in CRIME. Now I don't know if you want Bamba to be part of that friendship too but I do know that shortly afterwards CRIME attacks Bamba and is family, going them down. Bamba vows revenge and Joker helps him by gaining as much information as to how their furned became a Cyborg and Bamba becomes Big One. The second half plots would become a bit more serious as the plots are made more serious, with the attacks on JAQK being tests for larger plots, it's explained that the villains had different ways to jam their powers here why they were captured, a bit more about JAKQ not trusting Bamba at first, and Bamba's plans are more fleshed out as we see more of how he saves the team, like sneaking around the base and even knocking out a Crimer and stealing his cloths, or even getting a sample of the chemical to make an antidote. We also see more of what Big One is doing while the team is investigating cases. This helps build mystic alot better. I am not sure about the Hitler thing though, as it did make strategic sense, though I am wondering if it should be changed to just a regular Nazi Commander or not. Let me know what you think about that one. Anyways, things seem to be going smothly at first. Iron Claw however soon gets a desire for power and civil war breaks out between him and Shine. In an extended battle, the red and pink rangers first fight Shine in his Alien form (which there is concept are for) and destiny it, revealing the artificial intelligence within. After Shine is destroyed, Iron Claw becomes the ture leader of Crime and in an extended fight, beats JAKQ to a pulp. However Big One arrives and the two are evenly matched. However Big One manges to reveal Iron Claw's weak spot and they use one last JAKQ Covant to blast the weak spot and weaken Iron Claw long enough to use the Big Bomber on him. Iron Claw survives however and returns to his base from, rebuilding CRIME in the Crossover with Goranger, but is finally killed with one last trick by Big One, avenging his family and others that CRIME has killed.
Also the tone would match the crossover that balances the comedy and drama, and that could solve the problem.
