1965 Kay Vanguard Magic Guitar Pickup that Tests Bad BUT STILL WORKS GREAT! HOW?!?

I had never experienced this before, but now I have. I had heard and read that Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat pickup tested dead, but somehow put out the famous "Brown Sound". Well, I have accidentally uncovered one of these beauties. It works but shouldn't. There should be no sound out of it, but there is. A 1965 Kay Vanguard "pancake" pickup. I have contacted multiple people who have offered their explanations, but I think I know which one is correct on this particular situation. Watch me test this thing over and over even hooking it up to a guitar as a test. What did I conclude? Find out.
