      Coming from the guy who can't reference conversation properly... Here's a revised version of your comment so you know for the next time. (Yeah, cars clearly mean more to you than typing English properly.) Oh and one more thing, the fact that he enjoys cars and has a sentimental attachment to them has no effect on whether or not he can type properly. So your comment is irrelevant.

      My dad was an amazing father growing up. He always made us feel safe and loved and we wanted to win his approval not because we feared him but because he worked his butt off to protect and provide for us. He was a very senior officer for the fire service and lead his men in saving many lives. He is 80 now and had surgery after very early onset lung cancer was diagnosed. I was so worried but he kept saying, no point worrying mate it will be what it will be. I prayed for his welfare and I told him how much I loved him, his reply being thanks mate🤣my dad was never one for saying too much to do with emotional feelings but was there to put his arms around me when I really hit rock bottom. Being the man he is he did almost exactly what his doctors ordered. He was supposed to not be able to walk for a week after surgery but two hours after he came to he was walking to the toilet. His doctors and nurses couldn't believe it but he simply said , I need a leak. I'll be back in a minute, while still agreeing to be accompanied by a nurse. A few days later he was walking up and down the corridors . The specialists surgeons and all the staff were amazed at how resilient he is but always polite and friendly. One nurse was shocked he was 80 as he looks like he's about 65. I was so grateful to his doctor who wanted a full body scan to look for his arthritis issues and found the small operable tumour and since it's removal he's been given a clear bill of health. He's back to walking up his street in the mountains and looking after his property. I think it's a relatively active lifestyle and a great attitude towards life that keeps him young. He's an amazing dad

    "It's not just a car, it's all the memories and the feelings, it brings that back" That line really hit me hard also as a genuine car enthusiasts. You know, the reason why I got into cars is because of my dad's 1998 Honda Civic EK Hatchback. There's nothing much crazy mods on that thing, just your basic d16 with decent exhaust system, lowered springs. Heck it's not even that fast and nothing much special for most people but for me, it means a lot to me. I don't know the exact reason why I love such a car that is basically your "economy car" but I'd say that I truly enjoy the feeling of riding that, the loud yet decent sound of it, the connectivity that I've had with that machine that makes me calm down especially when I was like 4 - 5 yrs old. That thing really brings me a genuine smile on my face. That's also the reason why whenever I see an EK Hatch whether it's a Type R or not, it's more than enough to make me happy. But yeah, sadly, he sold his EK Hatch due to financial reasons and stuff and I wish that I could be able to buy it back or get one myself someday when I'm able to get a license. Again, that thing has no anything quirks and features like the Supra, GTRs, RX7, NSX, 911s, it's just basically your economy car and it wasn't even fast in the first place, but that thing would definitely have a special place in my heart!!! Sure that there's more better cars than Civics and don't get me wrong, I do genuinely love them but this one, there's something with that machine that makes me feel connected and it really makes me calm and happy. It's nostalgic to be exact. If it wasn't because of that car, I would not be the same person that I am today, heck, maybe I'd be someone who has no clear path to go in life, no goals or dreams. And lastly, that car is the main connection between me and my dad even tho we don't bond the way we used to be anymore (there's a big story of that and I don't wanna talk about it for now). That thing also taught me the true essence of being a genuine car enthusiast and that is doing what you love not for people's attention or whatsoever but for passion. It's not always about hype, something to brag on, stats, numbers, specs or any crazy math or mad technologies there is but rather the connection between you and the machine. I'm totally grateful for it!!!

    I actually got him (back) into cars when I was 13 or so, he helped me buy my first car at 15 and always supported my passion and dreams of racing. Thanks to his encouragement I've raced at multiple tracks and met so many great people in the industry. I always wished I could have done something like this with his old Mercury Comet. Thanks Dad!

And for him to carry that memory into adulthood, and then to go to the lengths to acquire that same car---the man must have been one hell of a father to inspire that much love from his son. The most surprising part of the story is that the car stayed in such nice shape over all these years. All those subsequent owners even kept the original Protect-O-Plate! That was something that nobody paid attention to when he sold the car in the 1980's, so for it to still be with the car is pretty cool.

  • @ravenregards
    @ravenregards 11 місяців тому +6

    Lovely story. Probably one of the hardest decisions, but an obvious decision at the time for his family. All those years the car was gone I'm sure he felt the loss, but he didn't regret his decision. In 2003 my wife and I had just both had surgery. We were struggling to pay the hospital bills. I actually started selling stuff on ebay to get us through each week. We were at the point of selling a dining room set with buffet that had belonged to my grandmother. I was ready to run the ad. My wife told me to hold off. Even though we hadn't told people of our financial situation, my mom ended up giving us enough to get through it. If we had sold the furniture I know there would be a hole left of my grandmother's memory. So glad he got the car back, the exact same car. That is a cool story.

    I have a similar story, though it's probably nowhere near as big as a son finding a beloved car for his dad:
    My dad once told me a story of how when he was a boy, he would go to the corner store and buy Philadelphia Phillies baseball cards for five cents apiece, until he had the entire 1964 team. He kept these cards in a rubber band in his back pocket, and would take them wherever he went.
    One day, he and his father went to the movies, and during the course of the movie, the cards must have fallen out of his pocket. They went back to the theater, but the cards were gone.
    About two years ago, I went online and found a pack of original 1964 Phillies team baseball cards for sale at a reasonable price, buying them and waiting until his birthday to give them to him. When he opened the box and took out the cards, he started crying.

My dad loves old cars, as I do too, but he didn't have a particular one he loved. My mom took all of us away when we were kids and it devastated my dad. He finally has a relationship with 4 of us again. I love my dad so much, and it tears me up thinking about all the pain and loss he has gone through. For father's day, I could have bought him anything, but it was the words in my card which brought him to tears. I don't think I can buy anything for my dad, that can tell him enough just how special he is to me. I wish I could take all the pain from my dad's heart, so he can be completely happy. I love him very much. This story brought me joy because the dad's boys loved him so much and knew what that car meant to their dad. I think that's absolutely wonderful.

    Brought tears to my eyes watching this...lost my Dad unexpectedly in 2019 and we shared a lot of great moments involving a Car/Truck...I really miss hearing his stories about the cars he had before I was born...for those of you who still have your Dad don't waste any time spent with Him because one day there will be a huge void in your life where he used to be

Don´t let him or anyone blame you for this. My tip is simply don´t do the same. You were brought into this life to enjoy it and to work on yourself, you will be fine. This is the second video like this I watch today. Maybe it's because of how much I wish I could live something like this with my parents. They gave us their all, really sacrificed for us, but mixed in there was too much abuse, manipulation and just emotional suffering for a moment like this to be within our reach. It's probably telling that my second thought looking at this man joyfully playing with his grandchildren was that he might be abusive when he didn't feel observed. When I saw his reaction to the car though, I teared up and the suspicion was gone. Such a great family moment.

    This is my second favorite video on UA-cam. Our dad also owned a 1965 Chevy Impala. The first time I heard Feliz Navidad by José Feliciano was in his car at Christmastime. I still play it every Christmas. Dad’s Impala took us to cheerleading and band practice, drove our friends home when they needed a ride, and we created a lot of great memories driving around with him. The Impala has moved on, but dad is still with us. At 85, he just bought for me my very first Chevy. It’s such a blessing having a wonderful dad like ours. Thank you for sharing your story. You have a beautiful family ~

    Both of my parents passed when I was 34yrs old and able to afford to do something like this for them. It tears me to pieces to watch, but I do for the good vibes. Cherish your parents people. Show them and tell them, whenever you can. Its hard to predict the exact ways in which you will miss them, nor how often each day, week, month...year. The acknowledgement of their absence can seem almost claustrophobic.
