- Here's a humble attempt to sing the well known Kannada devotional, Bhagyada Laxmi Baramma. From a programme dated 19th April, 2017 at Pune.
Please forgive the language errors for I am just a beginner at learning Kannada.
I consider it my honor to have gotten to sing with the most senior and noted artists like Pt. Mauli Takalkar, Pt. Bharat Kamat, Prasad Joshi, Tanmay Deochakke, Darshana Jog.

I fact it's regularly sung in karnataka on several occasions: M S and many renowned singers,both in. Karnataka and hindustani style have sung this Kiernan! santosh shetty language is not important ...music doesn't make any distinction between languages...music in all languages is pleasing to the ears if the singer is talented . It is the humans (politicians) who try and divide people on basis of languages to divide them .
Marathi and Kannada languages are twins, so are the cultures and people.
Just Marathi is written in Devanagari script and Kannada in Tamil script, and some grammatical difference.
We have absolutely no problem pronouncing each other's tricky words and sentences.

Yes santosh. She is a gem but also is kannada language and music. Here in Maharashtra kannada artists are respected and kannada music is personally my favourite.

I am Marathi, spent 35 years in Maharashtra and now living in Bengaluru for a year. I listened to this some times on roadside tea stall speakers - Tumakuru, Hosakote etc.. SwapnilRB Telugu, Kannada , Marathi are from Prakrit which is derived out of Sanskrit. All three languages are mostly Sanskrit. Telugu and Kannada has similar script where Marathi has kept the Devanagari script !! All three are beautiful languages!!

I am neither a kannadiga. Nor a musician. But this presentation is excellent. I enjoyed the section where at the time of pooja she elaborates and goes to Alapana mode which I take it to mean celebration started when Lakshmi is entering the house. Unmatched performance.Hats off to the singer.

Arya ji, Very nicely sung by you. You could create some goose bumps with your singing. The following are the best points:
- good pronunciation, better than some Kannadigas
- good utilisation of voice pitch (Taar swar)
- good use of gamak and taans
You can improve on the following points:
- use madhya laya (its almost drut)
- Have the taans on Bhagyada, or Lakshmi or Baramma (rather than on Vitthala). The song is to invoke Lakshmi and not Vitthala. So stress more on Lakshmi.
Good to know you are learning Kannada. You have the capability to go from perfection to divinity,,,

We belong to a lineage of kannada speaking Madhvas . We settled in Mumbai around eight decades ago.Fortunately , with Hari Iccha, we have preserved whatever we could claim as heritage. I heard about the legends of Purandara Dasa from my esteemed mother when I was a small kid. A humble observation ( I may have some limited perception) -Kannadigas learn about Maharashtra faster than Maharashtrians about Karnataka. Maharashtrians land up reverse plagiarizing about Maharashtra as though it existed from eons. Given this background, your interest in Purandara Dasa and the endeavour to learn the nuances of kannada pronunciation to do full justice obviously is through the blessings of Saint Purandara Dasa.
